Toothpaste is food
Toothpaste is not a food: Don’t eat Fluoride toothpaste. Toothpaste kills bacteria that make lactic acid from 6-carbon sugars. It can also neutralize these acids.
Fluoride is the worst substance for this job because it can react with all the other tissues of the body. It can even absorb through the gums.
Fluorine in Fluoride is the most reactive element in the universe. Fluorine in Fluroide is like Chlorine in bleach or Chlorine in a swimming pool.
The bacterial cell membrane is reacted with Fluorine or Chlorine and the bacteria leak out and die. When the bacteri are dead they cannot make lactic acid.
Where do these bacteria come from? Well, these bacteria (most commonly streptococcus mutans) can repopulate the mouth from the air we breath or from the food we eat.
An alternative to fluoride is Xylitol, a 5-carbon sugar that the bacteria can’t make into lactic acid. Xylitol basically starves the bacteria and they die off. Xylitol does not have the negative effects of Fluoride on the brain and the joints and the bones and the teeth.
Fluoride came from aluminum mining because it could dissolve aluminum out of bauxite ores. Do you want something that reactive in your body? The answer should be no.
In short, toothpaste was not intended for consumption.
