Okay, so this is really random, but I was literally just bored one day and thought this up:
So, if you’re not familiar with the Mandela Effect, it’s basically where people (usually a fairly large community) remember events differently from what actually happened. {For example, some people remember the show Looney Tunes being spelled like, “Looney Toons.”}
Now, conspiracy theorists believe this whole thing to be evidence of alternate realities and stuff like that, where memories of alternate histories get mixed up with ours. Which brings me to my theory:
What if this conspiracy was true in the case of the Backrooms lore? If you think about it, the Backrooms is “outside of reality.” Not even a separate reality, but an incomplete reality, hence the various anomalies, separation of areas into Levels. no-clipping being possible, etc. Perhaps, due to the nature of the Backrooms, it actually serves as a crossroads for all true realities, which allows memories like those described to be under the Mandela Effect to “crossover” at times, just as conspiracy theorists say. And when you find the “fake endings” of the Backrooms that send you to what seems like home (but it feels a little off), you actually do travel to an alternate reality, but due to the fact that you don’t belong there, you eventually fade right back into the Backrooms.
Like I said, it’s totally random. Hell, it might be heavily flawed in terms of lore. But I thought I’d share it just for the fun of it.
