Word of the Day: Isolation
ARTIST COMMENTS
"The isolation referred to here is emotional isolation. Isolation can be both positive and negative. I’m strongly introvert, and isolation is very comfortable for me. It’s often a choice, and therefore positive. There is also a negative connotation, where isolation has been imposed through a social rejection; and that social rejection might be internal - where someone is unable to cope with a circumstance and decides to hide away.
In the painting, we see a figure. Obviously, a young woman, but could be anyone. The figure represents humanity rather than a specific individual. She is in darkness, and her body language is one of protection. Outside of her, there is lightness. Life exists, outside of her, while a dark swirl envelops her world. She hides herself away from the light - away from life - in a monochrome existence.
The overall feeling is one of the sadness of missing out. If only she could open up to the world around her and experience it. To live. To “be”. It’s a form of depression she is battling with, which I FULLY understand. I’ve been there, and beyond."
