[Start of recording]
We set off on a Monday, just like usual. Lucas brought his rifle and Helen brought her briefcase. I, as usual, brought nothing. The Backrooms had already taken enough from me already. We were all in Standard HVAC Orange suits, my gas mask already fogging up. God, these things were terrible.
Two Assistant Enforcers lead us, equally armed, to the Shaft. One of them pulled out some sort of double bladed knife and cut the soft, wet wallpaper which revealed cold steel. He pulled it back, paper screeching. A long, thought-out rumble echoed throughout our Section. We all suspected that The Backrooms was alive, it's buzzing lights just masking its breath, wallpaper like eyes, watching us, waiting to just call an Entity to rip us apart. No, I thought, not this time.
The yawning of metal brought me back to the stench of my own sweat, and I looked around. The Shaft had come. The enforcers stepped back to let us in, and when we had the pressed the button again and the doors shuddered to a close. I saw one of the Enforcers eyes. He was scared. It finally came to a close, and it was just Helen, Lucas, and I in that stinking, rusted Shaft. I tried to look off the edge of the railing, but Lucas pulled me back. He looked at me. "Don't do that. The Assistant Enforcer before me made that mistake. Have you ever seen a man go insane in front of you? Not a nice sight." He grunted and swung his rifle over his shoulder. I shuddered, glancing at Helen. She stood still, shivering.
