A Long Ride is an anomalous level of the Backrooms, featuring an infinite tunnel with some sections and a mysterious entity.
Description
A Long Ride resembles a very long tunnel that seems never-ending. The tunnel is made of concrete and illuminated by slightly yellow LED lights, attached to the ceiling of the tunnel, while the road is built with an unusual material that, after some experiments carried out by researchers from M.E.G., has the same composition of tungsten, but was observed to be impossible to break. Sometimes, on the sides of the road, you can find locked doors that, when unlocked by force, lead to a different area of the level. Similarly, thanks to some reports, another area was discovered about 10 miles away from The Watchers' Outpost.
One of the first things you'll see when you spawn in this level is, to your left, a car missing two wheels and a few engine parts. Although undrivable, this "starter car" can be very useful because, as you go through the level, you can find slightly broken cars and some car parts, making it possible to fix a car to get around faster.
There are some important facts and precautions you need in order to go through the level peacefully. The level has no signal or internet connection and any type of digital communication device will permanently stop functioning as soon as they enter here. It is possible to find other wanderers while traveling, and it is best to do so — being alone at this level can be lethal, as supplies were observed to only appear if you're with someone else. Last but not least, it's best to put on your seat belts; it seems that the chances of the person being involved in an accident at this level, like crashing with a broken car on the road, are astronomically greater when you are not with them. Some said the level seems to "hate people that drive without their belts on" and "make cars and turns appear suddenly".
Although seemingly infinite, it was discovered that A Long Ride has an end, although none of our current M.E.G. explorers have yet to find it yet.
The Second Section
The second section of the level consists of many concrete corridors and rooms laid out very similarly to Level 0. This part of A Long Ride is very anomalous as it warps space-time, an example of which is some non-Euclidean doors that basically teleport you somewhere else in this level; some believe these doors may take you to other levels too. Explorers who entered this section reported feeling uncomfortable; they were very paranoid, and this effect continued for a long time, even after leaving this section. It was later confirmed that this was caused by an entity unique to that level.
The Drift Zone
The "Drift Zone", as it is called by the locals, is an area found 10 miles away from The Watchers' Outpost. The appearance of the Drift Zone is very different from the rest of A Long Ride because of the road, which is bigger and it's made of asphalt, the walls, which are made of tungsten, and the LED lights, which are blue colored.
It is primarily composed of numerous turns of varying sizes that make this zone is extremely hard to traverse; according to locals, you have to use the drifting technique while crossing these turns or else your vehicle will disappear. This last fact is still to be confirmed, but our "drifting" experts are on their way to reach the Drift Zone. Locals also say that if one happens to enter this zone without a car, the person will phase through the asphalt and go to the second section of the level.
Near the Drift Zone, there is a chance that there will be a gas station placed in the wall. This gas station may or may not appear and it is not known why yet, but if you find it, you can find numerous supplies and racing cars with modifications that help them drift, which facilitate the trip through this section.
Entities
There is one entity in A Long Ride that has only been seen on this level so far. This entity hasn't been given a proper classification yet, but many call it “The Paranoia Watcher”. Although many have seen this entity before, no one has been able to describe its appearance or take a picture of it, and this is likely a result of the confusion and insanity feelings the creature creates on explorers.
The Paranoia Watcher is not aggressive or harms wanderers directly, but it somehow drives the person insane, making them see things that aren't there and inducing them into harming themselves. You can find this entity anywhere in the level, mostly in the second section.
Colonies and Outposts
The Watchers
The Watchers are the only outpost established in the level. They are a non-aggressive group that guards the entrances to the second section of the level. They do accept outsiders and they trade for supplies. If you want to enter the second section — which they call "Paranoia Maze" — you have to sign some papers that say The Watchers have no responsibility for you or what will happen to you.
Entrances and Exits
Entrances
- No-clipping through an out of place concrete wall in Level 0;
- There is a scarce chance (like 1 in a 1000) of no clipping in Level 1 and ending up here.
Exits
- Going in the opposite direction the "starter car" is pointing takes you to Level 1;
- Driving until the end of the tunnel takes you to the Frontrooms. This exit is very difficult to find, as only one person was able to find it; it is believed that it only appears when specific conditions are met. After an analysis of an explorer's letter, present in the "Attachment" section, the variables that affect the appearance of the exit apparently are the environment and The Paranoia Watcher: M.E.G. researchers think it must be daylight and devoid of humans at the exit of the tunnel, which is in Naples, Italy, and you must not run into the entity even once during your ride.
Attachment: The Explorer Note
The following text is a replication of a letter left by a former M.E.G. explorer who managed to find a way out to the Frontrooms in A Long Ride. The message was given to one of our members by one of The Watchers, who said he received it from the explorer. Despite the facts, there are suspicions that such a note could be fake, as the author tells real world details in a letter within the Backrooms.
