Intro
New to the backroom's,and Don't know what to do?,Don't worry! this guide will explain many subjects like Time,Secret Levels,Noclipping, and much more!.
It seems you have noclipped out-of-bounds in reality, and into a bizarre new world. We'd like to welcome you to the "Backrooms", an alternate dimension where the laws of physics cease to apply.
Subject 1:Food
We will be giving a brief explanation on common foods, found in the backrooms
- Almond Cake
Almond Cake is a food item made by Almond Water Inc. ™; it has the same nutritional values and properties as Almond Water, but they are noticeably stronger. The cake has a sweet taste of vanilla and almonds, and it comes in various sizes: small, large, and extra large. The boring Almond cake, Dementia Almond Cake and Intelligence quotient Almond Cake are created by Reseach Group of Almond Water Inc.TM.
Almond Water is a substance found in a lot of levels across the Backrooms. It is a critical source of hydration, and slight nutritional value. It is a sweet almond/vanilla flavored water that can be found in bottles of several types, typically without a brand or label on them. Almond water can be found in clear water bottles, metal water bottles, glass wine bottles, and even cartons. It can be traded for, traded with, and can be used to repel entities and to cure some ailments. Some levels even use it as a form of currency.
Peanut Muffins are a pastry made by Peanut Inc. TM . Peanut Muffins are a food found in the Backrooms in Cluster l and Cluster ll. These are great for calorie intake and during starvation are best advised to eat. When or before battle you can use these to fight with a lesser chance of dying. Peanut Muffins come in batches of 4 and only four unless someone put another one there. These Muffins come in some variants and some are more rare than others. There is a mass amount of protein in the Muffins also, and there is a moderate amount of nutritional value.o
Moth Jelly is a nutritional, jelly-like abdominal secretion produced by female Death Moths to feed their young and maintain their Hives. Moth Jelly typically takes a violet coloration and has a similar consistency to honey but slightly thinner. Moth Jelly is laced with strong pheromones that attracts male Deathmoths and causes them to enter an entranced state when consumed, becoming addicted to it and making them completely subservient to a particular hive's Queen and willing to do whatever the Queen wishes in exchange for more.
- Darde’ Soup
Darde’ Soup is a very valuable food, and is very strange due to one founding being a strange video. Darde’ Soup is a mixture of dirt, flour, and Pepper Worms. Darde’ Soup is very commonly found in many Secret Levels, and some Positive levels. This object is either edible to poisonous, due to expiration dates or entity interactions. Darde’ Soup is the most likely forgotten and undocumented food item due to it being only found in Secret Levels, and some other levels.
Let's assume that you are hungry in the backrooms, but you entered a class 5 level that looks like a forest, like Level -4, you see in the distance a berry bush with white berries, you decide to go the bush containing the berries, they seem safe, you grab one and you decide to eat one and save the others for eating later, suddenly you feel your stomach burst in pieces and you start to vomit blood and your eyes pop out, later you die in agony, you regret having eaten those berries, those are Death Berries, yeah Death Berries, these berries look like normal berries, except they can kill you if you eat one, there have been reported sightings of them in the backrooms, specialy in class 5 or higher levels, and they have a sweet smell of vanilla combined with a scent of chocolate, this tricks wanderers into eating them.
Mushrooms and fungi known as Backshrooms can be found in almost every known level in the Backrooms, the amount and species of these unique mushrooms and where they can be found vary from level to level.
Although some Backshrooms are perfectly edible and beneficial to wanderers many species of Backshrooms are hazardous to consume as they can be poisonous or cause adverse and often anomalous effects depending on the species of backshroom in question, these more dangerous backshrooms can be weaponized and used to a wanderer’s advantage such as in the creation of Shroom Dust and Spore Bombs.
Celebrator's Cake is a very nutritious cake, made out of batter and vanilla extract. Celebrator's Cake has vitamin C and D, while also having multiple flavors that make it enjoyable to eat. This food item is a delicious delight when found in levels like Level Fun, The End, The Final Destination, and Level 453. This is a relic in cultures of multiple Partygoers, yet is mostly towards Humanity due to it's lack of meat inside of it. Celebrator's Cake however has some side-effects from eating it, by you having The Cold, and allergies towards dust and Liquid Pain. These Allergies can sometimes help you in surviving, due to you sneezing in front of a Almond Water like bottle. It'll most likely help you with the lack of food sources around you.
Subject 2:No-clipping
We will be giving you a brief explanation about Noclipping
Noclipping is the action of travelling quickly enough to pass through a wall or any solid object. This is considered the main method of entering and exiting many of the levels in the Backrooms. However, noclipping does come with the miniscule chance of sending one into the Void. This is much more likely if one performs it incorrectly.
To noclip, one needs to be travelling quickly enough to pass through any solid object like a wall without breaking it. If this is performed successfully, one will have noclipped. However, as mentioned previously, it is quite easy to incorrectly perform this, causing one to either injure themselves or end up in the Void.
Subject 2:Time
Time in the backrooms is different from normal time in any regular part of the world. Backrooms' time seems to be slowed down immensely, which has added effects on the human body. The backrooms seems to not be linked to any one time zone, which makes knowing the exact time extremely confusing. Watches and digital clocks fail to show time either, with most researchers on Reddit using the time on their posts to measure how much time has passed. As of now, there is no method of properly documenting the specific time of day down to the minute.
The strange time displacement in the backrooms is also present in many human bodily functions. The need for food or water is almost nonexistent, though eventually necessary. Many have estimated that an average human need only eat and drink once every "month". In addition to this, the body's natural healing processes seem to be absent in the backrooms. Physical wounds appear to not heal, which can cause massive blood loss or death if even a single small cut is left untreated. Wounds will not stop bleeding or scab over on their own. Bandages or stitches are advised.
Due to how it takes a month to run out of water, it can be estimated that time is 4.5x slower in the backrooms, However, this does not explain why wounds do not heal.
There is no specific day and night cycle. However, every 12 "hours" most lights on Level 0, Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 will go out for about 3-6 "hours", though there are reports of lights being out for up to 10 hours.
Subject 3:Entities
We will be telling you about mostly the common Entities found here in the backrooms
- Facelings
Facelings are humanoid entities that appear as ordinary humans with smooth, featureless patches of skin where their face would be. They dress in mundane clothes and are generally friendly and harmless, wandering aimlessly around the various levels of the Backrooms. Both adult and child Facelings have been sighted, with children being more mischievous and prone to pranks and theft. They are often preyed upon by other, more hostile entities.
- Hounds
Hounds are naked humanoid entities with shaggy black hair on their heads and oversized mouths full of jagged teeth. They have long, bony limbs, sharp claws, and crawl around on all fours like a dog, hence their name. They are some of the most common hostile entities, found all throughout the Backrooms, but are less common on the deeper levels. They will hunt down and maul anyone on sight, but can be easily avoided if one is quick and smart.Hounds are not very smart, and can be easily given the slip, or even momentarily intimidated into backing down if one stares them straight in the eyes.
- Smilers
Smilers are extremely aggressive humanoids that tend to hide in shadows and darkened hallways, appearing as a pair of shining eyes above a mouth full of sharp, glistening white teeth. They are extremely aggressive and attracted to moving light sources, such as flashlights or phones, then attacking via blunt-force-trauma (Usually by kicking or throwing harmful objects at the wanderer.) The best way to distract a Smiler, in order to escape, is by throwing a light source, (Such as a glowstick or even a lit match) in one direction and running in the other. They have been confirmed to reside in dark areas on Levels 1, 2, and 34. It’s also known that Smilers lay eggs which hatch into adult smilers after an incubation period of roughly 6 years. Upon finding a nest of Smiler eggs, do not under any circumstances touch, take, break or attempt to cook any of them
- Clumps
- Clumps are balls of arms and legs with many unique appearances. Most clumps are quite friendly; however, some have one very long hidden arm, which, if you are not careful, they can use to grab you from up to 8 feet away. Once one of these clumps has grabbed you, they'll reveal a set of sharp teeth and begin to pull you in to consume you. Once it consumes you, it is believed that your limbs and possibly fragments of your mind are absorbed into the Clump.
- Death moth's
Deathmoths are giant, human-sized moths that inhabit the Backrooms, appearing similar to the real-life Death's Head Moth, but with a pale yellow-grey color similar to the walls and floors of the upper levels. While the male Deathmoths are mostly harmless and possibly even tamable, the female moths are several times larger and more aggressive, able to spew acid from their proboscis to incapacitate other creatures before slurping up their liquefied bodies. Deathmoths are attracted to light, so if you hear the fluttering of wings nearby, make sure to turn off the light source Smaller Deathmoths inhabit levels 2, 5, 50 and 5678, but the larger and more dangerous ones only appear in 5, where the largest hive containing the queen Deathmoth can be found. They have completely taken over the level, and are the only things there besides the mysterious beast and The Chickens.
- Skin-Stealers
If you happen across a human who seems a bit off, or one with visible and odd stitches on their body, chances are they are actually a Skin-Stealer.
By themselves, Skin-Stealers are humanoid entities with waxy yellow skin covered in tiny squid-like suckers, a mouth full of scalpel-like teeth, and bulging white eyes sunk in dark sockets. If spotted in this "naked" form, they will immediately rush at whoever saw them, kill them, and tear their skin off with surgical precision, wearing it over their own body along with any clothes their provoker was wearing at the time. Skin-Stealers will walk about pretending to be human, mimicking any human speech they heard (Though not truly understanding any of it). When their cover is blown, or their skinsuit starts rotting and falling apart, they will attack the first human they see to get a new skinsuit. Why they do any of this is unknown, as they don't even seem to consume the flayed corpses they leave behind.
- Windows
Windows are, true to their name, shaped like windows. Their appearance depends on where they are located, always matching with their surroundings, but in general they always appear to have a shadowy figure on the other side of the "glass", pointing and tapping at anyone nearby to try and entice them to come closer, whispering promises of escape from the Backrooms. But they are never to be trusted, for anyone who gets close enough to one of the Windows will be immediately pulled through and will be killed. Some windows lack this shadowy figure, others have what look like outdoor scenery, but in general, all windows found in the backrooms are to be avoided at all costs.
Subject 4:Levels
We will be explaining levels
Normal Levels, diverse in size, security, and safety, are the blueprint of the Backrooms. Some levels are homes to sustained communities, while others pose major threats to any life inside them. Many of these levels represent what are known as "liminal spaces," evoking an eerie feeling inside the heads of its inhabitants. View some of the levels' photographs, and you may enthusiastically point your finger and scream, "This place looks familiar." We must warn you that the Backrooms do not abide by normal Earth laws — physics is thrown aside for more… chaotic anomalies.
We urge you not to linger in any single level unless there is documentation proving its safety. Levels can change over time or even stop existing — whenever this happens, a different space will replace the old level, which will cease to exist from this database but can be found in our archives. Remember that numbers are arbitrary — in most cases, the level's number has no correlation with the level's properties. Please keep this in mind when you ultimately create a new level document on our database.
Understand that it is your duty to create a piece of documentation immersive and descriptive enough such that your readers who traverse the level you're documenting know just as much as you do. Remember that you have creative freedom in how you choose to portray your discoveries — ask yourself whether a lost wanderer who views your level entry can effectively navigate it using your information. Don't worry if you lack information; another wanderer can always fill in. However, ensure that you have a general gist of the level you're documenting and enough elaboration to make wanderers' travels easier.
Here is a list of levels:Level List
Subject 5:Sub-Levels
Sub-Levels, often considered the "in-between" levels, are levels with a direct connection to their parent level, but lack enough distinguishing qualities to be labelled with its own number. However, because sub-levels are technically not direct continuations of their parent levels, we have decided to number this category of levels as a decimal number, with the integer portion being the parent level.
Many sub-levels continue the theme of their parent level, albeit with a different twist justifying the creation of a separate page. They are not merely "different rooms" of a parent level. Each sub-level should have a different tone while maintaining a similar atmosphere.
Here is a list of sub-levels:Sub-Levels
Subject 6:Secret Levels
Secret levels are unnumbered levels that cannot be accessed by normal means and have a certain element of mystery to them. Most of them are not easy to get to. It is widely speculated that there are still many more secret levels to be found because of this.
The Basement
The Basement is a secret level of the Backrooms that was once thought to be the bottom of the Backrooms. However there is no evidence that proves that the Backrooms have a bottom. Due to this realization Level -1 was renamed to The Basement and a different level was named -1. To enter The Basement, you must break through the ceiling of the level you are currently on. (It is suspected this works with all levels.)
This level is often regarded as being the most dangerous level of the Backrooms. (Even more so than 3 and 6.) Despite this, it is traversed by many who have think they have the willpower to last through the level.
The exits to other levels are seemingly random and unpredictable, much like the entrances. Those who have survived The Basement have told tales of an unknown base. The contents and authenticity of said base has yet to be confirmed.
The Metro
The Metro is a newly discovered level that can be accessed via the boarding of a train and waiting for the next station to arrive. The Metro is said to be extremely peaceful and supposedly holds a base that is owned by no one. The entrance to The Metro are random places that should have a train-station in reality, but as The Backrooms are a messed-up version of reality itself, the entrance can be practically anywhere. The exits are random but the paths are stationary, making it possible to map. The Metro can be mapped and goes in this order
- Level 9
- Level 36
- Level 11
- The End
- Level 14
- Level 10
- Level 4
- The Hub
- Level 33
- Level 3
- Level 32
- Level 43 (if holding an "Ocean" related item)
- Level 18,446,744,073,709,551,616 {if riding a rare light blue train)
There is a story going around of an entity that is now nicknamed "The Conductor." It is theorized that the entity is the train-driver, however, in reality, The Conductor is not the train-driver.
The Whiteout
The Whiteout is an area that can be reached through one of Level -1's doors. People who enter The Whiteout report being occasionally blinded by the brightness. Staring out any of the windows can make you blind. The level itself resembles a white house that appears to be under renovation. Ladders, Tools and Other items of construction can be found throughout the area. It is believed that no known entities roam The Whiteout.
The Static
The Static is an area that can be reached through glitched arcade machines in Level 25. There are very few accounts of The Static mostly because all devices go static upon entry into it. In this level the room are partially made with motherboards. Do not step on the motherboards as they will inject you with a viscous black fluid similar to Level 2 and you can die within minutes. This level is mostly devoid of entities except the bugs. This level can have many themes, an abandoned hotel similar to Level 5, a insane asylum, and an office building from the future. These are the documented ones though there are thought to be many more. The only known way to leave is to no-clip into a wall that is not made of motherboards into the negative levels. If you do no-clip into a wall with motherboards you will be sent to the darker depths of The Static. The only person who made it here hardly remembers what The Darker depths were.
The Blackout
Using a paint bucket within the The Grayout can lead to a "reverse" of The Whiteout. In this area, dubbed "The Blackout", everything is black, and the windows seem to lead to a void. The Blackout, unlike The Whiteout, contains several Entities. There is also an entity exclusive to The Blackout, which resembles a skinned human. This entity is innately aggressive, and seems to reflect damage inflicted on it. It is possible to return to the whiteout through any gray room in The Blackout, though it is not possible to go to any other levels through The Blackout.
The Greyout
The Greyout is a theoretical connection between The Whiteout and The Blackout, in which at a dead end it is possible to find a paint bucket leading to The Whiteout and The Blackout respectively. Entities can not normally enter this room since The Whiteout is in between it and the normal levels but if a entity comes from The Blackout they can enter via external means but it is highly unlikely.
The End
We do hope this book helped you new wanderer's about this strange new world
