Description
Entrance
The absolute top of the Abyss is an endless empty ocean. The level is in constant solar eclipse, and the paranoia effect of the Backrooms is amplified tenfold here. Wanderers who make it here will begin to experience crippling fear and begin hallucinating. After a few minutes, the Wanderer will begin seeing their worst fear. At this point, they must dive into the ocean and swim to the point of no return or their worst fears will be realized in the next five minutes (Ie. If a Wanderer has Thalassophobia, the ocean will grow above them infinitely and they will be killed by an aquatic creature). This layer of the Abyss has been officially named "The First Plane of Fear". There are presumably hundreds more, however all exploration past the first three layers has had to be conducted via drone due to the nature of this area, and thus fear effects cannot be gauged.
Overall
The Abyss proper is a near-infinite series of infinite layers that fold in on each other, creating a downwards spiral. These layers appear to be finite from the Void, but are actually each their own infinite spaces. This downwards spiral of layers seems to end eventually, but it is unknown how far down it goes. Text recovered via drone insinuates that the final layer is in fact a deity slumbering at the bottom of the Abyss, known as "Father" who apparently created the Abyss. It is unknown if this is connected from the entity known as "Mother" who exists in The Backrooms. The only way to move between levels are portals that will sometimes generate as levels rip themselves apart and mend themselves back together.
Known Layers
Expeditions could only be conducted for four layers. The first layer is a barren wasteland, with rocky outcroppings sticking out of the ground. This area seems to be underground, however it has a weather system. The rain on this level has a PH of 11, making it imperative to seek shelter if you notice clouds rolling in, as you will suffer alkali burns if you are caught out in it. It is unknown why this is. Alkaline water flows through the level, creating waterfalls. The roaring of water is constant in this level, and sound is amplified. This masks the sound of the entities on this level, so be vigilant if you end up here somehow. Entities here are: Wyrms, Burrowers, Batwings, and Hunters (See below).
The second layer of The Abyss seems to be the ruins of an ancient city. A sea of lava exists under the city, with bridges the only way over it. The only entities here are Batwings and Hunters, but falling asleep in this layer will give you nightmares. Whatever you dream about in this layer becomes reality, so lucid dreaming is recommended. There is apparently an extremely dangerous entity that roams this layer, but proof of it has not been collected.
The third layer of The Abyss is an impossibly dark infinitely long corridor surrounded by water. This level has the fear effect of the surface, but it also causes rapid loss of sanity. Wanderers who succumb to panic will be dragged into the water by tendrils and be consumed. The water is the only known entity on this layer
The fourth layer of The Abyss is completely filled with fire. The tendrils from the third layer are everywhere, seeming to come from the fire itself. Liquid mercury seems to form a sort of "Floor", though it isn't solid. No more description can be obtained as the drone that was used to explore the Abyss melted fourteen seconds from it's entrance to this level.
Entities
Wyrms
These entities appear to be gigantic serpents. They are known to roam Layer 1. They hunt most of the other entities on the layer using their fire breath. They have scales covering their body, rendering them immune to conventional weaponry. Stay clear of them at all costs.
Burrowers
These creatures appear to be half-scorpion and half-distorted human. They have no head and instead have a face on their stomach. Their fingernails are impossibly long and strong for a human, and said fingernails are one of the ways they kill their prey other than their mandibles and paralyzing stinger. They create vast networks of tunnels underground, coming up to ambush prey. Shoot them in their eyes in order to kill them.
Batwings
These entities appear as distorted humanoids with large bat-like wings sprouting from their back. They have talons which they use to slash prey, and they also seem to be capable of tool use, as some wield weapons. Run if you see one.
Hunters
These entities lurk in the shadows, waiting for prey to pass by, then they pounce on and maul their meal. They are the weakest of the known entities, weighing a mere 55 kilograms. Melee weapons work good against them.
Ways to get into the Abyss
You can find it from The Void if you wander far enough.
Drowning in any water-related level will send you to the entrance due to the two spaces being close by.
Falling asleep in The Backrooms may send you here
You can clip here from the Frontrooms at a small chance
