Your Ultimate Solution to Backrooms Communication
2 Humanity is only a tiny speck of sand,
among the countless lifeforms residing in this multiversal labyrinth.

3 We, humans, have set our foot on these corrupted lands thousand of years ago. Even so, the conquest of the Backrooms, is simply out of reach.

BackOS is an operating system worked on by the entire humanity for decades. The system we have now is based on the old system that has been claimed to be located within the Backrooms by simultaneous generation. Human adjustments were made to the system to function according to our demands.
In the most basic conclusion, BackOS is an all-purpose object that has been developed to be adapted in numerous fields and is an inalienable part of modern life within the Backrooms. In the following chapters, you will learn about BackOS in detail. The brief history of BackOS can be derived from the following timeline.
- 1842 - The first ever mention of BackOS had been discovered in a notebook dating back to 1842, saying, "A futuristic device representing a sophisticated typewriter with complicated functions."
- 1850 - The official discovery of BackOS on Level 4 supposedly by the founder of M.E.G., the First as a solo wanderer. However, there was no official documentation of him describing the device.
- 1885 - The formation of M.E.G..
- 1900 - The formation of Almond Water Inc..
- 1901 - The establishment of the M.E.G. Research Bureau, and the first-ever official instances and tests on BackOS were collectively undergone.
- 1920 - The distribution of BackOS as the official logging device in M.E.G..
- 1921 - The same in Almond Water Inc.
- 1924 - The first mobilization of BackOS in complex calculation. A device was invented to convert the hexadecimal code of BackOS into binary, then into decimal.
- 1927 - The discovery of " "▦▦▦▦▦" (FCS). Joint research on the subject by M.E.G. and many other existing parties.
- 1932 - The formation of Backroom Colonists.
- 1939 - The official outbreak of the First World War in the Frontrooms. The Bloodbath of Cluster I also took place at the year end, resulting in numerous deaths and severe property destruction. Most research involving BackOS was forced to be halted.
- 1945 - The end of Bloodbath of Cluster I, M.E.G. and Backroom Colonists formed an official diplomatic relationship.
- 1946 - The research on BackOS by M.E.G. and Almond Water Inc. resumed.
- 1958 - The invention of A language by Almond Water Inc., the first ever coding language in the Backrooms.
- 1960 - The invention of B language, the implementation of B language into BackOS by M.E.G..
- 1962 - The first ever set of softwares introduced by M.E.G., featuring basic communication functions.
- 1964 - Popularization of BackOS starts from this year. In conjunction with the event, Almond Water Inc. released its first version of BackOS, AlmondOS. Increased number of computer scientists noclip into the Backrooms.
- 1983 - The acquisition of the source code of BackOS by Dr. Riverman from M.E.G., who later released the source code to the public.
- 1984 to Now - Modern Era, the explosion in BackOS technology.
- This book is specifically about BackOS, for private OS by other parties like Almond Water Inc., their information is not contained in the book.
In the next chapter, a basic outline of the existing BackOS system will be discussed.
Developed by the renowned team Backrooms Software, the device you are touching with your hands today isn't really a mysterious piece of junk that serves no purpose anymore. In crude words, you can hardly live a day without the use of BackOS.
Lost in some unwelcoming weird liminal spaces; being chased by murderous entities that could pull your head off in no time; falling into near-insanity by an anomalous level's effect? You need your BackOS.
Provided that it is well-charged, a copy of BackOS can:
- Emit sounds that irritate and scare off entities, though humans cannot hear the frequency;
- Allow you to text your last words to your friends;
- Take a beautiful picture of your handsome face screaming to the incoming demise;
- Provide extremely detailed navigation in euclidean and habited/explored levels;
- Providing precise and up-to-date information of the Backrooms Database;
Most importantly, you might be using a BackOS device to read this book already! Isn't it amazing how in the formerly-so-scary (Still is, but less) Backrooms, there is a reliable system that can help you deal with your troubles whatsoever? That's right! BackOS is the exact thing one would ask for in such a hostile environment.
BackOS can be used almost everywhere, on land, in the air, and underwater. You won't have to worry about your device becoming a pile of useless metal if you accidentally fall into the depths of Level 7. (It floats in some editions, too!) There are just way too many adaptations applied to a BackOS device, it is the crystallization of human wisdom in the past few hundred years.
There are two variants of BackOS currently, facing different orientations in development. The former being mobile, and the second one being desktop. Both of them serve a largely different purpose.
The mobile version, suggested by its name, is provided with high portability and mobility. When you are chased by millions of smilers and slashers, you wouldn’t want your BackOS to be as heavy as a large rock and bring you down with it, would you? That is where the mobile version takes effect. By having a light and small design, it can fit into your pockets easily, and you can carry it all around!
It is also called “Mobile Phones” or just “Phones” by younger wanderers, as they have similar assets in the Frontrooms with the same name. I once came across a phone, and it looks almost identical to the mobile BackOS we have now, but the screen looks a lot fancier, and it’s even lighter than what we have! But of course, it receives no signal in the Backrooms, which makes it completely useless other than taking photos, filming and recording sounds.
Other than that, there is also a variant of BackOS named “Desktop BackOS”, or what young folks call, “Laptops”. As its name suggests, it is a bulkier device that is supposedly used on the top of a desk due to its higher mass and size. When it comes to survival, it really does not account for the functionality, but when it comes to efficiency. Boom. 1000 copies of the mobile version wouldn’t be as good as this one.
The aim of using a Desktop BackOS is to yield a higher processing efficiency. Given that more editable mass is available for instance Desktop BackOS, you can add many more functionalities to the device without having to worry about how many milligrams it gains after you add a new program! Talking about gaming(For those who would rather not risk their lives exploring the depths of an unknown dreamscape), people would always complain about how their experience is poor with mobile devices due to their pathetically sized screen and its slow processing speed. So when it comes to more sophisticated purposes, the portability of mobile BackOS takes its toll.
2 No pioneers have made such progression ever in history.
There is something we can proudly proclaim that we invented.

3 With this specialized tool designed for humans all across the Backrooms,
one may easily access and transfer information interlevelly without hesitations and delays.

5 This god-tier innovation is now under your disposal, by making good use of it, you can live your best days in the Backrooms.

The BackWeb is an amazing creation, especially considering the painstaking effort for the coders who balded their heads to build up the program from scratch. In earlier days, to access the database, or to chat with your friends online and to check out a meme video that has been viral throughout the Backrooms, you would need to be a master degree coder(Which was why none of the aforesaid happened back then).
However, thanks to the people who generously underwent insufferable pain for us, we get to use what we can work with today, the popular browser—— BackWeb. BackWeb is a powerful software developed by the Backrooms Software team and M.E.G. in 2016. Its primary function is to unionize the way to access all websites. Back in the days, there were so many ways to open a website, you would need to be able to read the terminal code, which would take years and decades to memorize, and many more until you are good at applying it.
Now, if you want to access the Backrooms Database, you just click on the browser, insert the link, something like “Back.Net”, and you get to see whatever you want to see. This is far easier and less demanding than what was in the past. Many common websites would have their access links provided to M.E.G., which would then be posted on Back.Net. You could literally discover new websites by going to Back.Net to search for the link.
Here comes another question: What if you are a new developer, and want to put your new ideas up online? The answer would be quite easy. Due to the increasing number of Frontroomers noclipping into the Backrooms, many Frontroomian coding languages like “html”, “javascript” and “css” came into our acknowledgement. These languages could help you make an appealing website, be it commercial or informative.
Moreover, compared to how you have to tweak the silicon motherboard on your device little by little to act as the main server of the website and risking the danger of breaking it, now you just have to tell M.E.G. that you want your website up, and they will put it up for you at a reasonable price. For more information about BackWeb, you can find that in Back.Net’s User Tutorial.
Without the gleaming new BackWeb technology, you can’t:
- Contact the M.E.G. when you are about to die so that your family can host your funeral;
- Watch news about M.E.G. so that you know where to hide when another inter-level war starts;
- Watch Kane Pixel’s Backrooms, a “What-if” series inscribing what the Backrooms would be if only level 0 existed;
- Buy almond water from Almond Water Inc. so that you can keep yourself from turning into a wretch;
And most importantly, you won’t even be able to know that this book is available for sale, right here, right now! You can already see where this is going, the wonder of BackWeb changes everything fundamentally, and how the Backrooms is not about living your last days anymore. You get to have a sense of luxury and comfort.
However, ethical and legal issues may also evolve with the implementation of BackWeb. For instance, a large case of online fraud happened in 2018. It involved a group pretending to be the customer service of Almond Water Inc., resulting in many online fraud cases. Ironically, in the same year, the group was shot dead by the real Almond Water Inc..
The details of BackWeb development will be mentioned in the later chapters of the book, for it could get really deep. We don’t want to get into the boring subjects just yet.
1 If you are a Frontroomer, you probably would have no idea how is it humanly possible to transmit signals through multiverses.

Ever come across a weird term called “ILEC” during the usage of your BackOS device? Well, it stands for Inter-Level Electronic Communication. It may sound as confusing as Level 404, but in fact, it is quite easy to understand once you get the knack of it.
Back in the days, BackOS was only used as a calculator and had literally no functional purposes; people would take it as a piece of garbage, as it was. But in the year 1940, the glorious technology of ILEC was discovered. Remember how the BackOS was simultaneously generated by the Backrooms as aforestated? Well, in fact, it also somehow features wireless peer-to-peer network, and was able to transport numbers to one another via a signal that can be spread faster than lightspeed. All your physics learnt from the Frontrooms fail here, by the way. So don’t be surprised.
Judging by its name, you could already have a brief idea of its possible usage. It is the information and communication technology used to deliver electronic signals inter-levelly! Regardless of whether the signal was passed though the void, the whole, or whatever you could name it, it remains unaffected and does not interact with any neighboring signals until it reaches another BackOS device. This process is named “ILEC”, or in long, Inter-Level Electronic Communication.
The mind blowing technology was based on the property of the BackOS. The signal it emits fails to interfere with any physical matter, or energy waves, as, you can say, it is both intangible and non-existent. The BackOS technology used a type of special signal emitters and receivers that produces this type of anomalous waves, which could then break through the spatial barriers of the levels, and reach its destination with ease. With the ILEC technology, you can:
- Send a group photo to your M.E.G. outpost so that it can act as your posthumous photo;
- Text your friend about how your great adventure within the liminal cities of Level 11;
- Receive information from the database without having to worry about the laggy Internet;
- Know where you are by the ILPS (Inter-Level Positioning System);
- Know how many miles you have left on Level ! (If it still existed);
However, even the ILEC technology has its limitations. For example, some specific levels still possess the ability to block such penetrative waves, like Level 764. In such locations, there would be absolutely no signal, and no one would ever hear your cries when you get dismembered by an unknown being. On the bright side, you probably will not end up in those places. right?
Another problem ILEC is facing is that there are limited numbers of signal emitters and receivers. As you know, such emitters are so complicated that humanity cannot interpret its mechanism. The only thing we could do is to rip it off from another Backroom-generated BackOS device and put it on yours. Even though artificial receivers have its breakthroughs, it is still far behind mass implementation.
Almost every device in the Backrooms has the receivers and emitters as mentioned in the aforementioned system and usually has BackOS installed along with it. However, in some rare cases, your device either underwent accidental program deletion or does not have BackOS at all. For example, after you just noclipped from the Frontrooms, you would only have your “phone”, receiving no signals whatsoever.
How could the problem be solved? Well, that is extremely easy, given that you have this tutorial book right in your hands. Thanks to our overworked and underpaid coders, every time a newcomer noclips into the Backrooms, they may receive a message on their phones telling them to do so. Even if they ignorantly refuse to do so, they may still do the same later by using any browser and inserting the link “https://BackOS.com”.
BackOS.com is an anomalous energy wave covering the entirety of the Backrooms that is similar to the one a BackOS device would have. The major difference is that the devices from the Frontrooms may also make use of the signal. The frequency of the energy is out of any human definition in terms of physics but is named “The Universal Energy Frequency(UEF)” due to a terrible misconception.
The information carried in the UEF can be changed only by the Entity PC found in the End. Fortunately, everything has been done for you. All you have to do is to either enter the website or download BackOS directly by accessing BackOS.com.
The installation of BackOS is almost instantaneous, as the wave carries the signal everywhere, and it is as fast as opening a local file when downloading BackOS. However, bear in mind that the operating system will completely replace your old one, giving you no alternative to switch it back. So wave a formal goodbye to your pathetic Frontroom operating system before doing so.
Worry not, for all of your pre-existing files will be collectively converted to formats that are readable by BackOS devices. Visually, the file would still appear the same, retaining its names and properties. File types readable by BackOS will be further introduced in the next chapter, alongside their descriptions.
After the installation of the BackOS, this does not mean that your device has suddenly magically transformed into a Backroomy device, and you still have to bear in mind that:
- Your device is still running by Frontroom way, which means that it is still limited by the efficiency of the physical assets of your device;
- You will experience delayed and restricted signal transmission, i.e. it takes a long time to load every website;
- The minimum requirement for BackOS is:
- 128MB of RAM;
- 16MB of VRAM;
- 2-Core CPU;
- A CD, DVD, or floppy drive slot (for CD or DVD usage);
- Capture card (for capture card app);
- 102.8 MB of free space on disk;
- Internet Card (for internet connection);
- P.S.:If your device does not meet the above requirements, the download will miserably fail. Good luck!
This is primarily because your phone does not have the specialized emitter and receivers installed, and after installing the BackOS device, the transmission of signals primarily relies on the server installed by M.E.G. on the level—— you can’t get any signals at infinite isolative levels like Level 11 since you are not connected with the actual BackOS frequency.
However, do not be depressed yet, you may still receive signals on Level 0, though being weak and unreliable. Level 0, although being isolative, is finite in size, and in some parts, usually near Manila Rooms, have the aforesaid servers installed thanks to our M.E.G. comrades who are not afraid of death. Oh, by the way, have I mentioned that you also have a chance to encounter this book in the Manila Rooms somehow? No one left in there, it just appears by itself.
Bringing it all together, installing BackOS is definitely a must for someone who just entered the Backrooms. You can contact M.E.G. immediately after you noclipped into the Backrooms for help, and does not have to worry about the mysterious monsters when you have all information about them.
2 Back in the days, if you want your device replaced with a better version, you would need to physically visit the relevant locations to do so.

Have you ever come across a term going as “BackOS-Legacy”? If you think that it is some type of old, rundown and outdated version of BackOS, suggested by the word “Legacy”, then you are absolutely correct.
By definition, BackOS-Legacy refers to any versions of BackOS that are 10 or more builds older than the newest one. For instance, when this book is out, the newest module of BackOS is BackOS 17, then BackOS 7 and its predecessors would be considered BackOS-Legacy.
Why should BackOS-Legacy be defined? You may ask. Well, it is an unignorable fact that all instances of BackOS-Legacy shall stop receiving system amendments and updates due to the technological limitation of that build, and the simpler and more user-friendly interface in the newer builds. This means that whatever bug the older builds possess, they shall stay that way as adjustments will no longer be made on the system. This is to reduce the workload of all Backrooms Software and M.E.G. developers and to provide more space for the development of the newer builds.
There are three versions of the BackOS for the different devices they are running on, and can be derived from the following:
The Portable Version (Disk Version)
In “Mobile and Desktop”, the Mobile and Desktop Version was mentioned, however, there are one more variants for the availability of BackOS, which is in disk. The content of the disk carries either the mobile version or the desktop version, depending on its version. By carrying a disk, it is far more convenient as it can be read in most devices with a disk reader. However, the disk version does not automatically update, and requires the user to manually update the files on BackOS.com. Upon purchase, you must update the disk timely to ensure that no damage due to bugs is done to your device.
The Installed Version (On Non-Backrooms Devices)
If your BackOS is downloaded to your device manually after you noclipped as stated in the aforesaid chapters, you would not have to worry about system updates as it is carried out automatically. This is to ensure that your non-Backrooms device works perfectly in the Backrooms. If you are this type of user, you may choose to ignore this chapter.
The Desktop/Mobile Version
The Desktop/Mobile Version, as stated in the previous chapters, are the devices directly produced or licensed by M.E.G. They usually contain a warranty and come with a guidebook. You should abide by the guidebook to yield the best result. To make sure your device is of the latest version, you may always go up to BackOS.com to check.
Failing to upgrade your BackOS devices to the newest 10 builds may result in unintended bugs while running applications and software, or even face fatal errors, causing the device to shutdown. It is always recommended to update your device subsequently after an update is out. If one must intentionally download a Legacy version of BackOS, one may find it in the BackOS-Legacy section on BackOS.com.
We have discussed the basic functions of BackOS and mentioned a few possible usages in the past chapters. In these chapters, you will learn about common pre-installed applications found on a BackOS device and their respective functions.
- Applications (Apps) are small electronic, intangible components of your BackOS device that can be either installed online or come along with its purchase, in the file suffix “ma”. The pre-installed ones (On all versions of the devices)are listed as follows:
- File.ma - The file library of your BackOS device, allows you to access all other applications contained in your devices, as well as images, videos and stored text. You definitely do not want your File.ma gone, as they organize all your messed up files for you automatically. Manually doing it could hurt a lot.
- Map.ma - As said before, there is a cool system on BackOS named Inter-Level Positioning System(ILPS), with ILPS, you can be informed when you are in a new, undiscovered level (Which is usually a bad news), and know your position within a discovered level. But of course, it obviously does not work on infinite levels. For non-euclidean levels, you can’t really tell how you would reach another location anyways, so that would be useless too.
- BackMessage.ma - BackMessage, powered by BackMail, is a lightweight application that has similar functions to an email app, except it is a lot smaller in size. It does not have a fancy UI, but it takes the minimum requirement to use. You can only send videos and images, but not vice versa due to the limited functionality. In terms of texting, there are definitely better alternatives, like BacksApp, but it still acts as a basic communication tool if you have none.
- FrontMessage.ma - Well, missing your family in the Frontrooms? You may use this exact copy of BackMessage, except it’s FrontMessage. Works the same as BackMessage, but bear in mind that this only works on a level with a Frontrooms exit (Oh, there might be no known levels with that.), and most of the time the messages received from your “family” are just a manifestation of phenomena 99. So, good luck on sorting out the real ones and the fake ones.
- AppStore.ma - This is a nice and handy platform to purchase extensions made by other developers, and even upload and sell your own! It comes with another extension, Install.ma, which, suggested by its name, installs the application for you. AppStore requires Wifi connection (Or you may call it UEF, as said before) to use, obviously.
- SoundPlay.ma - This application plays sound from either your local file or its own online sound library. It is the most welcomed platform for music through the Backrooms! If you want your ears to be blasted by some Level ! styled music, this is definitely the thing you need. Of course, many music from the Frontrooms is also recreated and uploaded to this platform, so maybe you can find the work of your favorite Frontrooms artist being covered by another person, too.
- RunDesktop.ma - RunDesktop.ma is a file reader that reads files ending with .ep and .sp. It compresses the file to a smaller size before opening them to reduce the energy consumption and time of reading it, and runs the program. This type of program supports converting pure text into a program too, and is a reputable tool for BackOS developers to test out their code.
- Power.ma - Power.ma might be the only file that has physical association with your computer. You cannot really open Power.ma, but every time you click on the “shutdown” button of your device, Power.ma will start doing its job, breaking the circuit of the device, resulting in it being shut down, and vice versa. You may also use the reboot function, which allows you to access multiple disks associated with your device.
- Devtools.ma - Devtools.ma is a series of frames created to help developers create applications so that they do not have to create everything from scratch. Some functions of Devtools include autofill and autocorrection of code. Other than code writing, there are also many other function that you can’t even understand unless you are a professional:devtools.ma - tools made for development of this operating system: level spoof, USB disk mode, package manager, cache abuser, system tracing, bug reports, view running processes. Basically tools we use to make this OS better.
- Settings.ma - Settings.ma helps you to customize your BackOS experience by allowing you to change a variety of system preferences like cursor size, keyboard type, screen color, and some system settings like whether to turn on Wifi or not. It is vital when you are not satisfied with what your device is doing.
- Database.ma - The official application for the Backrooms Database. The Backrooms Database is an anomalous Database that coexists with UEF and can be accessed regardless of having wifi or not. On the database, one may easily obtain information of levels, objects, events and groups within the Backrooms. Many survival tips could be found, though not all of them are written by humans, they are proved to be reliable and true. Another extension Openformylevel.ma is also available on top of Database.ma, making the Database to open the description page based on the level you are on.
- Camera.ma - The most basic function, yet the most needed. Without this, the famous Backrooms director Kane Pixels would not be able to film his masterpieces before uploading it to the database! You may also use it to take images of you and your smiler friends… Run! On top of Camera.ma, there is an extension called Imageview.ma, which is a simple photo viewer that can open the image/video files you took/downloaded.
It must be quite tiring to go through all the text walls describing the functions of the applications, isn’t it? Well, unfortunate for you, that is just the tip of the iceberg. The complexity of BackOS would make you rather end your own life than attempting to learn all of it, trust me, I am a veteran. Oh, and if you want to know more and the newest information about the applications, you should always go to BackOS.com to check it out!
Have you ever stumbled upon a special type of watch that has BackOS installed in it, and works almost the same as its mobile counterpart except the screen is almost too small to display anything? Then you must have witnessed an instance of BackOS Lite in the form of a BackOS watch. In this chapter, we will talk about how BackOS Lite works.
BackOS Lite is a series of devices produced by Backrooms Software that, as suggested by its name, is lighter in mass at the expense of a smaller capacity. However, since most of them are small, they are also extremely flexible. BackOS Lite is usually found as watches, but there are also some other custom alternatives. They are custom-made for individual buyers and induce a high production cost, below are some typical examples of such versions of BackOS Lite:
- A micro camera with an uploading function installed in a hat can also emit an emergency signal when a specific action triggers it. This object is ordered by a cameraman who would rather walk normally than hold a heavy camera, which is strange as that is exactly what a cameraman should do;
- An eye-shaped multifunctional shield by a weirdcore lover who is weird. The device carries physical functions like cutting and tearing and carries extremely high resistance to forceful hits. There is a screen behind the shield, which is a BackOS mobile screen that allows the user to do everything they can;
- A surveillance camera makes use of AI technology and BackOS, enabling the viewer to recreate one’s possible face even when part of the face is covered. This is specifically requested by Almond Water Inc., who claimed that their security needed improvement. It took a few months for such a request to pass through moderation since it may involve an invasion of privacy;
BackOS Lite is useful in many occasions, regardless of whether the user wants access to the Internet or more functionality and automation. This results in its vast application it, and it has become one of the most renowned plugins to either the Internet of Things or high-tech areas that require groundbreaking application of technology.
However, even the greatest invention has its limitations. BackOS Lite itself does not carry the emitters and receivers like the rest, and extra installation is required. It is also quite costly when it comes to custom-made products. Although it is compacted and easier to carry around, its processing efficiency precludes it from carrying out extensive operations and rather acts as a middleman and transmitter for larger devices in most cases.
BackOS Watches are one of the special cases, however. It is designed to have the function of detecting heartbeat, blood pressure, and many vital bodily functions. When the vital signs of a subject are unstable, it would also deliver a rescue signal to nearby outposts when possible. It also has a one-sided positioning system, which allows M.E.G. to trace down the wearer for rescue. The primary aim of having a BackOS watch is to receive sufficient care in emergencies, but it also acts as a double edge blade, as they will have your locations, including anyone who would want that information. Let’s just say, you would want your stalker to be here when you are dying to monsters, and not when you are alone.
BackOS Smart Watches, different from the aforementioned, include all the functions that a BackOS Watch may carry, it also offers some extra functionalities at the cost of being slightly heavier. It has an audio player and a larger display screen. It can also receive signals from another device via a wireless connection to perform actions. It can also be connected to another BackOS device for sophisticated settings. Not only is it more useful on some occasions, but it is also more welcomed by most wanderers.
If you have read through the history of BackOS (Which you probably did not as it is extremely boring), you would know the fact that most builds of BackOS fall under the name Jumo’OS. An instance of Jumo’OS would have a build number like “Back-Jumo’OS-Alpha-49.1.45 on it”. It is a joint effort between their two lead developers, Dr. Juiole Charles, my old friend, and his friend Noulamo. You will know the team under the more recognizable name——“Backrooms Software. Are there any non-mainstream BackOS development teams? You may ask. Well, you are in luck, as a researcher of BackOS for more than half of my life, I can easily introduce some of them to you:
- Noulamo OS
Noulamo and his friend Juiole were not always this close, and they could have arguments like a friend does. From the year 2022 to 2024, Noulamo and Juiole led their own research teams due to a small quarrel over the layout of Jumo’OS’ layout. While Juiole continued to research under the name Jumo’OS, Noulamo started a new project called “Noulamo OS”, which then miserably failed, as of a fact, Juiole was correct. I don’t have to mention how embarrassed Noulamo was after knowing that he was supporting something false, but they were friends after all. So at the start of 2024, Noulamo rejoined the team, and he was never more welcomed.
- AlmondOS
AlmondOS is an operating system innovated by Almond Water Inc.. It is rumored that the development of AlmondOS started a lot earlier than M.E.G.’s BackOS. However, Almond Water Inc. retained its mystery and does not react to such claims. Albeit the acknowledgement of AlmondOS, no one has really seen an instance of AlmondOS as it acts as a private interior conversation tool. It is known that once becoming an Almond Water Inc. employee, their identities would be hidden or be replaced with a new one. No one was ever publicly known as an employee of the Almond Water Inc. other than my father.
- WindowsOS/ Linux OS/ MacOS etc. (FrontroomsOS)
FrontroomsOS are operating systems created by a large group of Frontroomers, and are a direct replica of what they have in the Frontrooms. The Frontroomers actively attempt to overcome the difficulties of rebuilding their system in the Frontrooms, and succeed in most aspects. FrontroomsOS are the most popular OS among non-local Backroomers, and seems to be consistently updated as more Frontroomers noclip into the Backrooms, bringing in more trends and technology. The FrontroomsOS are characterized by their simple, attractive user-friendly interface and powerful functionalities. The lead development for the FrontroomsOS involves more than one, but the most famous one is “Microsoft”, taking it’s Frontrooms counterpart’s name.
All the operating systems mentioned above are the major OS that you may come across in the Backrooms, though there may be more to come. For information later than the publish date of this book, you may have to seek assistance online for more accurate information.
Also note that the information in this book is primarily only based on the BackOS developed by M.E.G., typically Jumo’OS. It may not be as reliable when it comes to other variations of operating systems. In the next chapter, we will start detailed diving into the more annoying part of BackOS, you will see when we reach there.
BSearch is a technology developed by Backrooms Software, which is an AI-powered search engine extension. It is quite complicated to describe BackSearch inside, so I will say it more comprehensively. BackSearch, given by its name, is a search engine that accounts for the majority of the browsing experience of the Internet in the Backrooms. It connects related concepts with AI, so that similar contents pops up everytime you search for a specific content. This prevents the search result from being empty due to the search prompt being too specific or too blurry.
Long words short, BSearch allows you to:
- Receive images related to the term “Skibid Toilet” when you search for the prompt “Toilet man”;
- Redirect you to Wikidot (If you do not know what this is, just remember this term, it will be mentioned in the next chapter) when you cannot find the level you saw from Backtube on the Database;
- Help you find the images of the liminal space you wanted to look at when there is not a tag of “liminal spaces” attached to that image;
BSearch enables prompt blur and prompt concentration, making your search for images, videos and websites a lot more pleasant as you only have to describe what would appear on the image to obtain the image. The basic mechanism is that AI will automatically generate different tags that the image may carry, usually involved in the techniques used in the picture or objects appearing in the image.
For instance, if you put up the prompt of “A room with a balloon, liminal space”, an image with reference text “Level Fun” would show up, rather than any images with that specific name. This is the work of the AI that automatically generates prompts that may suit the images and attach it to the image when it has been uploaded.
However, most of the time, the image in your mind is just so original that no one has ever created similar things. At this point, you may want to give up on searching because there just ain’t any suitable outcomes. However, with another amazing pre-installed BackWeb extension BImages, you never have to worry about such things.
BImage is a high-tech AI image generation program that is embedded into the image results of your browser, and results of AI image generation will take up the first frame of the image displayed. The image is free from any forms of copyright and you may even claim it for your own if you are the first one to see it. This enables content creators on the Backrooms to not have to worry about whether they will get copyright struck or not. The illustrations of Level 4 are the result of BImage, and that should instill confidence in you that BImage is surely a reliable and powerful tool to use.
BPrompt is another extension coming with BImage. It does exactly the opposite of BImage. It derives prompts from an inputted image, for instance, when an image of Level 37 is given, it would output “there is a pool with a white tiled wall and a blue pool, pool caustics, voxels, voxel art, tiled room squared waterway, voxel, melting pixels, rendered in pov - ray, pixelated, procedural rendering, 3d max, high-quality voxel art, pixel mosaic, volumetric render, vraytracing”. It may sound like nonsense to most of us, but since it is the AI way of interpretation, another AI would also accept it.
When you use the prompt to generate another image with BImage, the newly formed image will carry the same style and scene in it, giving a similar output to the input image in BPrompt. This saves a lot of time since you do not have to think of what prompt to type in to achieve the same effect of another image again.
This is the effect of BSearch, BImage, and BPrompt, three helpful pre-installed AI extensions found on BackWeb, in the next chapter, we will talk about the databases (Yes, there are more than one of them) of the Backrooms. *(Discontinued indefinitely useless more people is joining this rewrite.)
