Old version of BackOS.

BackOS is an backrooms operating system made by Almond Water Inc.TM and Research Group of Almond Water Inc.TM. The OS isn't finished yet. It looks similar to Windows 3.1x, however, it's not a copy. The OS itself is made for communication and as a source of information. The look in early stages of development look really poor, but later it got improved. It uses internet. It doesn't support mobile devices. The company said that they will make this OS in Level 1980. It's a useful information due to that everyone knows from where get it. The operating system is practically done, but there are testing sessions before release to make sure it's bulletproof. The only language for this OS is

English. The language can be changed with custom user packages and is defaulted English.

Current known beta build desktop

The release date is not set yet, but the leaked images of the OS are looking like it's almost finished. Many people are hyped for this OS.

Noulamo's version of the BackOS, a beta version of his.

A old version, named Noulamo's BackOS was used a old version of the OS, it wasn't finished, and had tons of errors, noulamo was going to add a radio to it, but was quickly scrapped before the OS became scrapped and lost to time, a beta image can be found, though. Copies would be sold for 30 ฿,that's 10 more than the original!

The OS, according to announcements in the past, will be sold for 20 ฿ for each copy.

Requirements to install BackOS

  • 64 MB of video memory
  • 3 CPUs
  • Floppy Drive (yes, we still use floppies because the PCs in here have them.)
  • 1GB of free space on disk

Minimum

  • 128 MB of RAM
  • 16 MB of video memory
  • 1 CPU
  • A DVD drive
  • Capture card
  • 500MB of free space on disk
  • Internet Card

BackOS Mobile

In December 26, a worker at Almond Water Inc. released alpha v1 to the public. This is the first built version of the operating system for smartphones and possibly tablets. (There is gonna be a poll to put BackOS desktop, BackOS Mobile, or a new variant of BOS on tablets.

Apps

  • file.ma - a simple File viewer like the desktop one but it is just text now but will have a nice UI soon.
  • map.ma - a maps app. Level maps are provided by the M.E.G., Backrooms Robotics, Almond Water Inc., and The Backrooms colonists. Maps can be downloaded as .map files
  • bkmsg.ma - a messaging app to message other users in the Backrooms using BackOS mobile. It is like Facebook and WhatsApp like you register an account and it gives you a list of users to chat with. All of them.
  • fntsms.ma - another communications app for people in the Frontrooms, you can either use the SMS standard or the phone call standard. IRC and MMS standards coming soon.
  • store.ma - the App Store to download more .ma app files to the hard drive.
  • inst.ma - the app installer, makes apps compliant for later versions, we will not do registry otherwise it will make the phone a big fat pig like windows.
  • mikumusic.ma - just a test/example/demo application we used. It just plays po pi po and other miku songs and has a picture of miku.
  • rundesktop.ma - runs desktop .ep and .sp programs on mobile. It may be hard using them because of the size.
  • power.ma - has options to shutdown, reboot, reboot to Frontrooms operating system you were using, reboot to Bootloader, reboot to rescue mode.
  • devtools.ma - tools made for development of this operating system: level spoof, USB disk mode, package manager, cache abuser, system tracing (record cpu use), bug reports, view running processes, basically tools we use to make this OS better.
  • apidemos.ma - api demos for all the APIs we implement in the mobile operating system.
  • settings.ma - settings app to change stuff like what the volume buttons do, brightness, wallpaper, and stuff like Wi-Fi access points
  • androidsubsystem.ma - A QEMU-based virtual machine running Android 1.6 Donut for now, and we plan on implementing android APIs soon and shortcuts to the Home Screen later.
  • wiki-fandom.ma - a MediaWiki wiki viewer with the ability to view pages and download pages as .wiki files and view them
  • wiki-wdot.ma - views the wikidot wiki, which can be more reliable, but has less documented levels. Downloads are in the form of .dot files.
  • shortcut-openwikiformylevel.ma - finds what level you are on, then has 2 buttons to open it in fandom or wikidot (if available) and redirect you to that app.
  • cam.ma - a simple camera app that saves photos/pictures/images to the hard drive.
  • imgview.ma - a simple photo viewer. Just views photos. No complex menus, CPU and battery eating indexing, privacy-invading CSAM scanning, and no edit function because it's too complex.

Gallery

Coming soon

  • A message popping up congratulating you when you enter The Frontrooms
  • a feature to fully turn off all wireless and location
  • a proper Home Screen with widgets
  • transfer functionality

Trivia

  • BackOS Mobile has stolen code from Microsoft's unreleased Windows 11 Mobile, but why should there be copyright in the Backrooms with Frontrooms content?
  • It can be installed on compatible Android phones with a ROM, and iPhone 7,7+, and iPod touch 7 via project sandcastle, and when fully released, you can find it in Backrooms-made phones.

Released Editions

These editions are all based from KernelOS and the Linux kernel, these editions include:

Normal Releases

Special Releases

Special Releases are made for specific levels or alternate dimensions

Design

Again, this OS is slightly based off Windows 3.1x. It has an Menu and InfoBar below the menu with wallpaper behind them. Current betas are based off of Windows 11, Zorin, and Deepin as well as neomorphism and glassmorphisism

In old version, BackOS used to be very similar to MS-DOS.

Functions in new version

Chat

Used as a way of communicating. You just need to search people what you want to chat with and have internet connection.

Accounts

To make an account, click the profile picture icon and choose "create new account", then give the account name and password and done! Also, the account creation window opens when you first use the OS on some device.

Note from a developer: Spamming accounts may lead to deleting them from the cloud and even deleting your main account.

The accounts are used to chat with other accounts and make one device to use for many people.

Device administrator

The first account created on an device will become an device administrator. There must be at least 1 administrator per device. The administrator’s permissions are:

  • View everyone else's files and manage them
  • Kick an account from a device
  • Give administrator to other accounts
  • Block someone in chat on other account
  • Change device settings

An device administrator can diss his status, but, when his account has only administrator status, he needs to choose what other account will be granted the status, incase if there is 1 account on a device, this account can't diss it's status.

Notes

You can write anything you want here and save it. Saved notes you will find in the file library.

Wiki

MultiChat

Multichat is an closed source program made in collaboration of M.E.G, Almond Water Inc and the E.S.I.S.P.S, is used for people to chat with more people around the backrooms, but is also used exclusively by big and powerful groups.']

Command prompt

It is basically command prompt. You can execute many commands here. You can enter it by clicking CTRL+ALT+S. When you are in here, the graphic version of the OS disappears, which makes resetting your computer/executing exit command only exit from this mode.

The Commands are:

Exit - Exits the command prompt.
Reset - Resets the device.
SwitchAccount (username) (password) - Switches to an chosen account registered on the device.

BootLoader and other tools

BackOS default bootloader is a modified version of the GRUB Bootloader, is called BackOS Grand Unified Bootloader, or BOGRUB for short, is a bootloader exclusively made for BackOS, but also made for other OSes, it looks like Windows 7 bootloader, but have the same code as the original GRUB bootloader + the console GUI from windows boot loader, there are 2 options for BackOS:

The BackOS rescue environment is an option used for BackOS when the operating system does not load correctly or has crashes, if the BOGRUB bootloader is damaged, this option will be chosen by default, the resuce enviroment is composed of only a terminal, the only usable account in this enviroment is the root account, you can see what disk is being used if this has diacritic before the disk location.

the rescue environment looks like this:

BackOS Rescue.png

The Rescue Enviroment chooses where is BackOS installed by default, but it can be changed by typing: diskutil -d /dev/sda1

available commands:

diskutil rbld ls dir cd help shutdown backdit nano nvim exit

The Safe Mode is the same as the full BackOS, but instead it loads only the basic drivers (wifi, keyboard, video, mouse, etc.)

4 programs are in the desktop: "Repair BackOS" "BackWeb Navigator" "Command Line as root" and "Exit"

It also does not have a background, and instead of a background, it has solid colors and a water mark, like this one:

BackOS SafeMode.png

The BackOS bootloader looks like this:

Quick Login

Quick Login is used only by employees of Almond Water Inc. this option is ideal in case you forgot your password, quick logging uses ID Cards, like this:

NAMES: EXAMPLE

LAST NAMES: EXAMPLE

USER ID: RANDOM USER ID

RANK LEVEL ACCESS: "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7"

ALIVE? : YES/NO

Accounts

Guest

The Guest account is an special account used by people who borrowed another persons computer.

Admin

The Admin account is the one of the privileged accounts in the OS, this account has almost all permissions. The admin can gain full access to the system and Bootloader via a setting in the general. After that type “su” or “su system” to get system access and “su bootloader” to get Bootloader access. Type “su all” to gain both.

System

The system account is the most OverPowered account in the OS, having full and no-restricted access to the entire OS, except for the bootloader.

ROOT

the ROOT account is the failsafe account used in the rescue environment and safe mode, this account also has full access to the bootloader. but not to the main OS.

Options

You can customize your computer/OS with these options, ex. change wallpaper, volume, turn off internet connection etc.

You can also change the wallpaper to one of the following images:

You can also change the clock time zone from The Frontrooms Time zones to SBT (Standard backrooms time) Time zone.

DownBar

It contains helpful information.

See above.

Internet connection

Shows your connection with the internet, which is necessary to do some things.

Level displayer

Displays the level you are in. This only works for discovered levels.

Notices

Notices are shown here. (ex. There are missing system files, OS needs to be updated, Someone messaged you etc.

Hour

Possible hour in The Frontrooms. You can switch the displaying to SBT time zone.

B++

Description

This programming language is inspired by the C++ language, except the B++ is written from scratch entirely, this language alongside C++ is what keeps BackOS alive.

Example of this language:

example.bpp

use <stdio.b>
class console.output;

for main():

do print.message >> "Hello world!" >> call = console.print.message();

return.value = 0;

end();

Returns:

Hello world!

Explanation

What the example does is calls the class console.output to print a message.

the call function tells the console class to print the message.

the return.value tells which value the message returns with.
