Backrooms, Today! is a cooperative organization, specializing as a private news agency. It is the oldest and largest independent news agency in The Backrooms that isn't a state-run entity. Backrooms Today doesn't have outposts of its own, instead having headquarters situated within major metropolitan areas such as the 399 Megacolony. It operates as a unincorporated association, and produces news reports distributed to its members via BACK-CHAT. In recent years, it focuses on various reader centered initiatives such as an online blog as a platform for more opinion-driven content accessed by subscribers and members.
Backrooms, Today! reports across multiple media formats, providing content to a wide range of media outlets ranging from TV, Newspapers, and digitally. It delivers newspapers mostly independently from its numerous printing presses, and operating within many metropolitan areas. Backrooms Today spans across ten different offices operated by some 564 employees communicating with each other online and adhere to a standard business hierarchy found in the Frontrooms.
Over the years, Backrooms Today has endured numerous controversies and allegations targeted towards its legitimacy. Many ideologically zealous GOIs such as Ruphis-Proletarium have tried to infiltrate Backrooms Today in an attempt to twist narratives within their own favor. But that's not to say Backrooms Today isn't subject to personal bias from its own employees or bias coming from concessions made by the cooperative to expand its base of operations. Though it still remains the go-to news source and blog for independent journalism outside of state-run news agencies.
Its founding dates back to 2005, founded by primarily Shivira Dizedayokzhu and three other independent journalists formed a cooperative venture with the aim of providing news coverage of Ncipetherazi internal affairs. Its main founding member Shivira, is a Ncipetherazi entrepreneur who suffered a career ending shoulder injury during mandatory military service which led him to being hospitalized for x amount of time. After his recovery, he turned away from military life and started a small news agency mainly providing coverage via newspaper on cultural and domestic affairs within Level -406.
It is at this time one of the other founding members created digital copies of its newspapers published to the Ncipetherazi database directory, unlike most news agencies of its time, was able to be accessed by outsiders meant as a media campaign to brodcast Ncipetherazi culture. Another part of its digital initiative was getting in touch with other independent journalists living within Level 10 in the crossfire, it offered journalists a larger platform to document their testimonies of the KC war. By 2006, it had created a branch operating in the Backrooms Colonists, but pressure from regional customers forced it to sell its service to various regional newspaper groups, the cooperative later had taken the name Backrooms Today as a transnational News Agency instead of being a Ncipetherazi-centric agency.
In 2009, Backrooms Today partnered with publishing firm Colonist War Room Inc. to launch Backrooms Today-War Briefing which transmitted coverage of ongoing wars and the geopolitical landscape of the Backrooms digitally and through wire[1], cementing the creation of the news agency's new branch operating in the Backrooms Colonists, its largest branch. BT saw a large influx of subscribers and viewers tuning in to read the latest article published, it was renowned for its relative unbiased coverage of the Korthie-Casaiagen war and being a transparent news source.
Ever since its remarkable success in the Backrooms Colonists, it eyed up the opportunity of having an office established in New London and confronted the M.E.G. via an online business meeting and offered the M.E.G's state run news agency an opportunity for syndication, a share of its revenue made from subscriptions, and gain access to stories they are otherwise unable to cover due to lack of ethos. BT hoped the prospect of mutual benefit between both parties would convince the M.E.G, Ultimately the M.E.G rejected the proposal out of skepticism of the legitimacy of its reports. BT inevitably had to offer concessions to the M.E.G. to gain the rights to set up office in New London, where Backrooms Today would aid the M.E.G's reporting with expertise in the respective field.
In earlier years such as 2020, Backrooms Today encouraged a lot of troubles in the endeavour of setting up a new post within post-KC war Aurielle due to major security risks that plagued Aurielle after decades of war, and major financial risks as investing in Aurielle at the time outweighed the potential returns. It had high-insurance premiums and volatility in the region hindered it for the longest time. BT was under the constrains of ethical concerns as it would be viewed as profitting off a war-torn region and fueling its somewhat murky reputation. Though BT invested some money into Aurielle's reconstruction process post-KC and finally set up a news post in 2025 welcomed with open arms by Aurielle.
On June 1st, 2021, the official Aurielle Today (Backrooms Today's Aurielle branch) backchat and BT account posted numerous spam articles and messages pertaining spurious attacks on the Auriellen president, Arenet Matlon, falsely claiming that he had been killed. This led to mass hysteria and further distrust of Backrooms Today as it had been involved in major scandals before, like the Bottlegate incident regarding its security. Though it was eventually found out that the official Aurielle Today was hacked by Team 403 as apart of its broader egress cyber attacks on governments utilizing BackOs systems. The false alarms were swiftly taken down.
"Bottlegate" is an incident that occurred during the rise of Agorean mafia in 2013, which involved the leaking of several Impesario class documents of the Backrooms Colonists and M.E.G, and using Backrooms Today's expansive online news network as a platform to spread aforementioned documents. The leaked documents entailed descriptions of Tulpa named ████████ that exhibited ████████████████████████████ and ████████████████████. The ████████ caused ████████████████████ to ███████████.
