What are Spam Pages?

All spam pages in FANDOM wikis either have (intentional) poor grammar, unfunny text, cringe, bad syntax, irrelevant, unrelated, dumb, stupid, gibberish, and crappy writing. They are also mass-produced, repeatedly created, and sometimes has a "joke" category. Sometimes it involves sexual/horny stuff, which is worse. The aim is to promote a particular joke rather than to provide useful content to readers of the wiki, should be rewritten or deleted. Also imagine you're in a server and chat, but someone spams and floods your message. Do you like it? Well, no.

What can I do?

If you find such spam, please report it to the SOAP team or admin(s) with as many useful links as possible. If you see a page that has useful then was filled with spam, revert the edit(s) in which the spam was added, and report the account(s) that added it if they persist.

If you decide you want to vandalize not spam, here's what will happen next:

  • Your vandalism will be reverted. It will usually happen within days, if not hours.
  • You will be left with an ugly message on your user contributions. Even if you remove it, which you can do, it'll always remain in the history of your talk page, and anyone will be able to see it.
  • Your acts of vandalism will always be a part of your user contributions, and will be archived in the history of the page you vandalized. It will have your username (or if you are not logged in, your IP address) in it. Anyone will be able to see your vandalism, which will look really, really ugly if you are striving to be a respected editor.
  • If you continue vandalizing, you will be left with more ugly messages, and eventually a big fat ugly message telling you that you are unable to edit that fandom or the entire website. If you try to click edit on any page now (except for your user talk page), you will find this is most definitely not a lie.
  • What can you do now? You may appeal the block, of course. Simply add a request to your talk page. Sooner or later an admin will see it, and say yes or no. If he or she says no, you can wait, or you can appeal your block again. If you make too many bad requests or misuse your talk page, though, your talk page access may be revoked.
  • Once your block expires, or if an admin says yes to your appeal, you will be able to edit fandom again! But if you persist with vandalism (or you make an account just to vandalize), you may be IP banned indefinitely from the entire network, and will be unable to create another account from your IP address.
  • Any accounts that are created from other IP addresses found to belong to you will be blocked too, including VPNs in companies. If you continue to change your IP address and vandalize, Fandom discusses the issue with your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Anyone can report you to your ISP for abuse if you do it as an IP, even if they're not a user on Fandom.
  • If you do lose Internet access due to abuse, just get another Internet Service Provider and you can start the cycle all over again! At least until there are no more providers to abuse the project with. In that case, you might as well resort to murder! Go on, do it! Cause rules stink, right?
  • If you ever decide you want to become a productive member of Fandom, contributing to the compendium of knowledge available for the education of all on this site, you may just find that it’s too late. You may only ever be remembered as the joker who posts ceiling fans everywhere. Ahem "David Beals" cough cough. Is that what you want your life’s legacy to be?
  • Oh, and if you decide to harm other webs, you will be caught, and if you do it too much, you will be banned across the internet like Donald Trump.
  • If you continue to make new IP addresses, you can actually get fined out of real money.
  • If you still want to continue, you will spend some time in jail.
  • Let's say you got out of jail and want to cause harm physically not virtually. If you do that, your jail time will increase and you will be sent in prison hell. Learning this, you shouldn't vandalize.
  • What if you had another life? Well, you will regret the things you've done in your previous life.

An example of this is from the BFDI wiki:

"DOODOO FCES HAHNUCFNJ EI-REBNW98JF FUNI STIKY POUP HAHA FUK SHIT BICH HAHAHAHA.,: i love blueball friday night funkin beepoop lemn demon ant got no iphone jnjfu9j8wejnifdu9"

If you spot one of them, depending on the wiki, you either:

  • Report it to a mod or admin.
  • Tag it as a candidate for deletion or "Delete".
  • If the user/group keeps creating them, confront them.
  • If possible, delete it.

About Vandalism

If you vandalize without logging in, it'll make it harder for you or anyone else to make valid edits or register a username while connected via that IP address or range. Fandom has tools that can tell whether you're at home, work, school, or pretty much anywhere else in the world. If you vandalize from a shared IP or a proxy server, you are more likely to get blocked for a longer time; maybe even a year or two. Regardless, if you get blocked, other innocent editors, perhaps respected ones, may also get blocked for a while.

Any pages that you vandalize may get protected, making it harder for others to edit legitimately. That's why we have autoconfirmed and even extended confirmed users, but as a regular vandal, you will almost never be one of them.

Others

If you use sockpuppets (multiple accounts), you will eventually get caught. Your IP address and all of your accounts will be blocked.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Tip: To be easier to find spam pages, search by pages with fewest edits, pages with broken file links or the shortest pages. Another alternative solution to find these is to click on a random page.

NOTES:

  • Avoid deleting jokes or spam on days or occasions where they are allowed, like spam in quotes or on April Fool's day.
  • If you see two autoblocks by one user, they're probably using a VPN.
  • If a user is acting like another blocked user, ask them before confirming that they made an alternate account.
