Corrosive Soap is a substance found on a number of Aquatic Levels of the Backrooms. This substance resembles ordinary soap bubbles of the Frontrooms, but will be encountered roaming through these levels in massive heaps that take up entire rooms and corridors, and is considered incredibly hazardous and predatory.
Description
Corrosive Soap has been described as foamy piles of highly reflective, multicolored bubbles which will wander aimlessly throughout aquatic levels, leading some to believe that these heaps are actually part of a sentient, predatory entity. Instances of Corrosive Soap have been known to range between 400 and 500 square feet in size and 6 feet in height, though instances are large as 2,500 square feet have been reported.
Touching Corrosive Soap is not recommended, as doing so will result in part of your mind being absorbed by the bubbles. Additionally, you will lose your sense of touch on the area of contact for a brief period of time after touching it, which can range between 10-30 minutes. Immersing your head in the soap will result in the complete absorption of your mind, and total loss of brain function. Once absorbed, your mind cannot be released from the Corrosive Soap by any known means. Due to the lack of corpses found within the foam, it is believed that the body itself is also dissolved and converted into the same foamy substance which makes up the rest of the entity.
Habitat
Aquatic Levels seem to be the natural habitat of Corrosive Soaps, as they possess the necessary quantities of water for Corrosive Soap to survive. Corrosive Soaps require a reliable source of water to prevent themselves from drying out, as they will often coalesce for periods of up to an hour on the surface of pools, so that they may absorb the necessary water to survive. Because of their nature, Corrosive Soaps seek out areas with high humidity, and avoid dry areas or levels exposed to "natural" sunlight.
Aside from water, Corrosive Soap needs to feed on some amount of biological matter to survive. In the absence of Wanderers or other entities upon which to hunt, Corrosive Soaps will use their digestive enzymes to feed upon the grime and microscopic bacteria that form on the walls, ceilings and floors of aquatic levels. Corrosive Soaps will crawl through the rooms and hallways of these levels at speeds of approximately 2 mph, leaving them sparkly clean and completely sterilized as they migrate across large distances in the Backrooms in search for more murky, filthy areas to "clean".
Behavior
It appears, however, that Corrosive Soap does not only require biological sustenance, but intellectual sustenance as well. Because of this, Corrosive Soap seems to target Wanderers as its primary source of nutrition. Corrosive Soap has demonstrated the ability to lure wanderers into its embrace through the usage of images projected onto it's reflective surface. Corrosive Soap is also able to call out to individuals and vocalize with a distorted voice that seems to emanate from somewhere deep inside the pile of bubbles. It is hypothesized that Corrosive Soap possesses some level of mind reading, as it will reflect images that are specifically designed to entice individual Wanderers to walk into it.
Corrosive Soap seems to create these images using the wanderers' own preconceived desires for spiritual fulfillment and enlightenment. Wanderer's will commonly describe these reflections as images of heaven, with their loved ones and relatives waiting for them on the other side, though other images have been reported depending on the faith or spiritual beliefs of the Wanderer. Common examples of images reflected on the surface of Corrosive Soap includes:
- Images of heaven
- Images of loved ones calling to them
- Images of a deity
- Images of one's perfect self
Entity Encounters
Corrosive Soap has been known to commonly feed on The Mold, both in its liquid and in its living forms. This natural rivalry can be beneficial to Wanderers, since if the Corrosive Soap is allowed to feed on The Mold uninterrupted, it can quickly clear out an entire area of the infestation and then migrate once again. However, to do this you must make sure not to attract the Soap's attention, as it will always prefer to prey upon the more intelligent target, and after spotting you it will chase after you instead of The Mold.
Reported Vocalizations
"Come my Son, come and be baptized. Wash your mind and soul and become one once again. Do not reject this chance at salvation; you have seen the emptiness of life without love, life in isolation of the presence of God. Become one with God now, be forgiven and escape this Hell." ― Transcript from recording on a camera found near Corrosive Soap, owner presumed dead
"I was wrong brother. Heaven is not found somewhere beyond the sky, but here inside these infinite reflections. Like you I was once lost, but now I know the truth. Come with me into eternity." ― Reported vocalizations from the Corrosive Soap to Mitch the Wanderer, reflected image appeared to be Mitch's missionary brother who was left behind on the Frontrooms.
