A wanderer's depiction of a Death Ostrich

Death Ostriches are extremely hostile entities which were once believed to be completely extinct within the Backrooms. If you encounter these entities, do not run away in a straight line, they will catch you.

Description

Death Ostriches are entities which vaguely resemble flightless birds like the ostrich, but which have no legs or feet, have 4 eyes, and long tail feathers which drag along the floor as they hover their cow sized bodies above the ground via unknown means.

Though seemingly slow moving (approx. 3 mph hover speed), these entities are able to extend their necks indefinitely at a rate of 6 meters per second, or at speeds of 14 mph. This ability allows them to compensate for their slow hover speeds, and allows them to chase down prey for miles and miles, their necks all the while growing impossibly long in the process.

Death Ostriches have excellent sight and hearing, and can use their beaks to burrow through walls and other obstacles when in pursuit of a Wanderer. Once its target has been reached, the Death Ostrich will proceed to stab them mercilessly with their beak until they have been killed, at which point it will feed on their entrails until satisfied. Death Ostrich attacks are swift and ruthless, as they will peck their victims multiple times within seconds of reaching them and target sensitive spots like they eyes, neck, and stomach in order to incapacitate their prey quickly.

Severing or destroying the head of a Death Ostrich will not result in its death. Instead, the entities neck will continue to head in the direction it last saw its target, or simply wait in the same spot as it recovers from the damage and regenerate its head in a period of 5 to 10 minutes, depending on the severity of the damage. The Death Ostrich will be blinded and deafened during this time, giving Wanderers who are being pursued a chance to escape the entity.

Once it's head has been regenerated, the Death Ostrich will continue to search for its prey for several minutes before giving up if its unable to find them. Upon ending a hunt, the ostrich's neck will begin to retract at speeds of 5 mph until it has reached its body once again. The only way to truly kill a Death Ostrich is to destroy the creature's body itself in its totality, either by completely tearing it to pieces or by burning it to ashes.
