Death Rats are the rats of the Backrooms, and like their counterparts in the Frontrooms, they have gray fur, brown tails, and red eyes. Unlike the rats of the Frontrooms, these rats possess sadistic tendencies and a high level of intelligence which allows them to outsmart Wanderers of the Backrooms.

Description

Death Rats are measured to be 3.8 inches tall, 7 inches wide, weighing 800g, and have a lifespan of 200 years. They are resistant to most acids and are commonly found on the floors of Level 2, or inside broken pipes, and typically travel in groups between 5-9 members large, and will attacks anything that moves, feeding only on human/Skin-Stealer flesh and human brains and stomachs.

Behavior

Upon spotting a Wanderer, Death Rat packs will attack first by targeting the feet of and legs of their victim in order to cause them to stumble and fall, before then targeting their eyes brain and then their brain. Death Rats demonstrate a sadistic intelligence, and will ambush lone Wanderers, striking at their tendons, throat, eyes and other sensitive areas. Death Rats have been known to torture their victims before killing them, usually by entering through the stomach and slowly eating them from the inside out.

Lone Death Rats usually hide in broken pipes, running away from anything that moves and will constantly search for a group of Death Rats to join with. Although much weaker on their own, Death Rats have been known to instantly kill a Wanderer all on their own by ambushing them and striking at their throat.

Encounters with Wormlings

It has been discovered that Death Rats will also feed on Wormlings. Due to the abilities Wormlings possess, this has lead some to believe that this food source is also the source of the Death Rats' Intelligence.

Discovery:

A member of The Survivors was exploring Level 2 when he heard squeaking nearby, he explored the area and found huge rats, he later named them Death Rats after seeing them eat a human from the inside out, hearing the deafening screams of the human before they died. He later went to his Colony to tell others about this story.
