The Deep Down is one of the largest Backrooms levels, covering the bottom of any level that can generate holes, slides, and chasms.
A recreation of what the level looks like.
Class 3
Entering
The Deep Down is always located far under any level with a way to go downward, the easiest way to go down is through slides which are slanted holes that are confirmed found in Levels 1-3 and Underooms Level 0. You will slide down at a fast pace for roughly 10 minutes before you can hit the Deep Down. Holes can just appear anywhere in most levels. Chasms are found between two levels that can generate chasms, and they usually stretch all the way down.
Deep Down
The Deep Down is a dim-lit pathway of tunnels with a few sub-rooms. The walls have hints that they were light, but the paint is mostly worn down to reveal dark concrete-textured stone, the floor is often dirt-ridden, sometimes bits of it are broken off, and the whole level stinks of foul odor produced by rotting bodies of past explorers. The tunnels have tiny changes of elevation, like 25 degree slopes, but they always eventually go back down. Pipes rig the ceiling, some of them leaking unknown fluids. Sometimes the floor will change to look like a catwalk, and in the gaps you can see deep down a flood of many fluids mixed together. It is presumed this multi-liquid is lethal. Entities are stronger than normal in this level and it is unknown why.
Sub-rooms
The Sub-rooms are spaces unlike the usual claustrophobic tunnels that cover the majority of the Deep Down. There are a few sub-rooms that have been confirmed. These include:
- A room around 20m tall. Big pipes go through the room and the floor is flooded with the aforementioned lethal fluid.
- A room with a few chairs, tables, and one smartboard. The smartboard usually has text on it with survival tips. These are the known phrases. "If you hear screaming, do not follow it." "Do not drink habanstis." "Stay away from any danger, they are more powerful here." Habanstis is the presumed name of the mysterious liquid.
- A room with multiple streams of the strange liquid intersecting. There are four corners in the room connected by shielded catwalk. Each corner has a ladder downward leading to the tunnels and a few levers which control the flow of one of the streams. Where the streams intersect, there is a grate where they flow downward to an unknown location.
- A morgue-esc room with the bodies of entities killed. It is assumed the entities make these morgues for their fallen.
History
The Deep Down has been known to exist ever since the first few explorers went down the slides in Level 0, making it one of the earliest-known levels. Early pictures of the Deep Down depict a level not too far from the one today. One group of around 150 heavily-armed navy seals went down to secure the level, their dead bodies are now used as markers by explorers to tell where they are. A few major groups said it was top-priority to secure the area for research on the backrooms, but despite their best efforts, no colony has lasted longer than a year. One researcher ingested the "habanstis" and mutated into a Skinstealer, an unheard of outcome for the time. The Deep Down became the Mount Everest of the Backrooms, a challenge only the strong-willed or crazy would attempt, one that had a miniscule success rate, and one that had very few ways out. However, over time it was forgotten about, outclassed by newer discoveries, and it was mostly forgotten about.
Logs
Log 1417, a radio conversation between an unknown explorer in Deep Down and Jamie K.L. Teinsen, a researcher also in Deep Down but around 150 square miles away from the explorer. U is the explorer and J is the researcher.
J: Do you see any landmarks yet?
U: No, currently traveling through tunnels.
*U's radio begins bugging out*
J: Are you there? Hello? Your radio is malfunctioning. Is everything alright?
U: (Barely audible, it is believed he says, "Something saw me.")
*U begins running at a fast pace, farther away footsteps are also heard.*
*J begins panicking* J: What is that noise? Can you hear me? Hello!?
U: (Again, barely audible. It sounds like he yells, "A hound is after me!" but that is speculation)
*A slam noise is heard, originating from U's radio as he had dropped it.*
While what is thought to be U's radio was found, U has not been found and has been deemed M.I.A.
Log 2100 is a conversation between an operator on Level 11 and Oswald H. Flemkil, a citizen in Level 11 who found a slide into the Deep Down. O is the operator, F is Flemkil.
O: Hello?
F: Hello. My name is Oswald H. Flemkil. I found a weird hole in the ground, it was kind of diagonal like a slope, and when I tripped down I ended up in this strange place.
O: Can you describe where you are?
F: It's kind of dim, I see a warning sign for touching the pipes. The walls are kind of worn, like grayish and there's a trail of blood on the ground.
O: I don't think you are in Level 11 anymore.
F: I don't either.
*Strange grunting is heard distant in F's radio.*
*F becomes fearful* I- I found the hole at [CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION], could you please come qu-quickly?
*O is silent for a moment* O: Yes, we are sending a dispatch right your way.
*Something approaches F*
O: Hello?
*Radio silence is heard from F, ending the log*
Oswald's body was found 27m from his landing site, he was mauled by an unknown creature, although the manner of death is similar to previous Insanity attacks.
Unexplained Phenomena
There is not much unexplained phenomena surrounding Deep Down itself, but there is one major one. One of the first audio recordings in the Deep Down, nicknamed "The Drone", is a wax cylinder recording of the loudest noise ever produced in the backrooms. The sound is a droning sound, like a generator running, it doesn't sound very out of the ordinary. However, the sound covered the entire Deep Down and could even be faintly heard in Level 0. The point of origin isn't exactly known, but if you were at the point of origin, the sound would be an estimated 70,000,000 decibels loud.
Entities
Entities are rarer than normal here but also stronger than normal. The current estimate is 3 entities per sq. mile, an astonishingly low number. Insanities are the most common entities for this level, as the poor conditions get to people. However there have also been sightings of hounds, skinstealers, and facelings. Partygoers used to be in the level, evidenced by early photographs. However, the partygoers were unable to reproduce in this level, and they were eventually wiped clean from the level during the time it was popular. Finally, there are remains of what is suspected to be a Neanderthal caveman, which is rather unordinary, as it is believed the backrooms weren't discovered or didn't exist then.
Colonies/Outposts
There are no known colonies or outposts, but there are ruins of what were at one point colonies or outposts.
Exits
The Deep Down has four exits, exactly four. There are four fire escape doors on the four sides of the level. Reportedly, one brave explorer found the left-most door, and when he opened it, he wound up back on Earth. He is the only known person to escape back to earth from the Deep Down.
