The Devil’s Ambrosia is a parasitic species of edible flower found in the Backrooms.

Description

The Devil’s Ambrosia, also known as Black Ambrosia and Shadow Lilies is an invasive species of edible flowers that resemble lilies with a black coloration and multiple orange anthems sprouting from the center. Said anthems produce a pitch black, sweet smelling & tasting nectar.

The Devil’s Ambrosia can be found in nearly any level with high levels of vegetation and flora such as those pertaining to forests, jungles, gardens, farms and even greenhouses and other places where it’s presence is unintended due to it’s nature of an invasive species. It can even be found potted and in bouquets in urban level’s flower shops and other stores.

Properties

Devil’s Ambrosia exhibits an interesting quality retaining to it’s scent. Devil’s Ambrosia has been observed to smell differently depending on the individual and the scents it mimics are usually derived from either someone’s personal tastes in what they like to eat or even deep emotional triggers such as those associated with their childhood or other fond memories of their former lives in The Frontrooms. Some of the scents noted include roses, chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon, chocolate, peanut butter, bacon, fresh fruit, vanilla, perfume, freshly cut grass and even fresh laundry. The nectar is described as tasting like mangoes and honey with “a hint of endive”.

Those who have picked up the scents exuded from Devil’s Ambrosia note that they felt compelled to go further to the source and once finding the flowers, feel on overwhelming desire to ingest it or drink it’s nectar. Some have even claimed to hear voices compelling them to ingest the flower or drink it’s nectar in a sultry tone. Both the flower and it’s nectar are highly addictive and the effects it has on those who have become hooked are similar to that of cocaine.

Devil’s Ambrosia is responsible for the creation of Slashers. Wanderers who have ingested Black Ambrosia even once are doomed to become the murderous, undead mockeries of their former selves once they have met their demise.

Due to it’s many properties retaining to attracting and enticing wanderers to ingest it and it’s invasive nature, it seems that Devil’s Ambrosia is a parasitic organism with the creation of Slashers being the main goal of it’s life cycle, the high quantities of the flower’s nectar found in a Slasher’s internal system may be how it spreads itself to new places and potentially new hosts as the nectar has been shown to propagate the growth of Devil’s Ambrosia, this theory is supported by the fact that the flower doesn’t seem to have or grow from seeds.

Usage

Standard issue Ambrosia Gas Grenades

Slashers have shown to be attracted to Black Ambrosia as they always crave it. Learning this weakness, The M.E.G. have since weaponized Devil’s Ambrosia to use to attract, distract and contain Slashers.

The most common use of Devil’s Ambrosia is grinding the flower into powder and pressurizing it into a gas to use in “Ambrosia Grenades”, high-tech gas grenades used to attract or deter Slashers from those it is seeking to kill.

M.E.G. Response

Due to the danger this accursed flower presents as well as the booming Slasher population, the M.E.G. have made extensive efforts in the retrieval and containment, or even the outright extermination of any and all traces of the flower.

Multiple squads have been formed in the effort of reducing the Devil’s Ambrosia’s population such as Team Magnolia who are tasked with finding, retrieving and returning specimens to headquarters for scientific research and Team Rose who are tasked in finding “hotspots” with a massive population and growth rate of Devil’s Ambrosia and removing all traces via standard issue, M.E.G. Grade Flamethrowers.
