An Introduction[]
Welcome, intrepid wanderer. This is the hub page for the canon known as the Empyreanverse, started by me, Syncronyzer.
The basis for this canon is the existence of the entities known as the Children of the Empyrean Sea, and its most powerful member, the Exalted One, divinities born from the primordial chaos outside the known universe. The Exalted One, in particular, is crucial—its exploits eventually leading to the creation of the Backrooms in its entirety... or is that the real story? Even eons after their supposed extinction, they leave an undeniable mark on history; but they aren't really extinct either. This revelation will shake the universe, and chart a course for the future of reality, all the way up to the unavoidable end. This canon, aside from any content which directly conflicts with the narrative of the verse, follows the Backrooms Unrestricted Canon, where every single level, tale, or entity is fair game—aside from joke pages, obviously. This is a avant-garde canon, meaning that all entries must pass a certain level of quality (Almost no SPaG errors, unique concept, good formatting, compelling writing, and other basic requirements).
In order to have your page added to the canon, you must either message me, Syncronyzer, on the Fandom, or direct message me on Discord; my username is 5oliloquy. Please don't edit the page without permission.
The story of the Empyreanverse spans vast stretches of time, from the birth of the known universe to the inevitable heat death of the entire cosmos. Therefore, stories can be chronologically set almost anywhere you want, giving the Empyreanverse a high degree of flexibility in that regard. However, all pages must conform to the timescales and lore set by 'A Finale', 'Level Origin', and 'Children of the Empyrean Sea'. In this narrative, the liminality of the Backrooms mainly stems from the collective subconscious minds which shaped it; often by deep-seated fears and reprehension of the unknown. A heavy emphasis is placed on the scale, in the form of the immensity of the cosmos compared to inconsequential humans—in this way, the Empyreanverse is similar to the genre of Cosmic Horror. But not all is doom and gloom. For there are stories of men triumphing against gods, for in the grand scheme of things it is the journey that matters, not the end.
All in all, the Empyreanverse is a very lore-heavy canon; with eons-old eldritch entities and tales which delve deep into high-concept ideas and vast worldbuilding. All pages, whether they be tales, levels, or entities, have a connection with the Children in some form or another. In this way, all the pages in the Empyreanverse are interconnected and intertwined.
The lines between genesis and oblivion will blur, and secrets of the ethereal will be unleashed upon the cosmos—in the vast narrative of the Empyreanverse.
Happy writing!
The Core Three[]
These pages are the foundation of the Empyreanverse, setting the stage for all that comes after.
- Level Origin - "Chaos, The Aperture"—The first of the Backrooms. An origin. An aperture.
"Oh. So that's what this place was.
[A pause.]
How utterly ironic."
- Children of the Empyrean Sea—The divinities of the cosmos; born from the chaos; to the chaos they returned. All, save one.
"Long, long ago, there were gods amongst the stars.
Wars of unimaginable scale were waged across the universe, and entire swaths of space were swept clean.
- A Finale—The true beginning leads to the end, as creator and creation meet oblivion. A set of stories set the stage for the finale, apart in time but not in spirit.
"At the end of everything, what remains?
A darkened hallway; yellow walls drab and worn, the ceiling dotted with broken fluorescent lights, and a floor of soggy, moldy carpet.
This endless amber labyrinth of liminality, a mental construct of a race long since extinct. A maze that served as a tomb for thousands upon thousands of men and women, trapped forever.
This was a place ages old, never failing nor faltering, even as the race which produced it died out in a flash of fire and fury."
Pages[]
Pages will be updated frequently, so do not be alarmed if some links do not work! There will be some redlinks, sorry.
Also, please write a short, two-to-three sentence description of your page below the link. Preferably, include an excerpt from your page as well!
Levels[]
Phase 1[]
- Level 94: "Echoes of An Edifice"—An expanse of structures. An alien temple, abstruse and enigmatic.
"Sometimes, these affected buildings correspond to no known structures on Earth."
- Ad Memento: —Memories, forgotten. Empires, fallen. The greatness of the past doomed to be reduced to ashes, nothing more.
"As Expeditionary Team 864-00 looked on, a bright, blue star rose in the night sky, bringing light to the expanse of this timeless world. Starlight trailed behind his body, glittering away, fading and falling into the void between.
As KRONOS ascended past this firmament, he saw above him countless universes, existing in a harmony that was unmatched.
But he had no time to dwell on beauty.
For he had a god to kill."
Phase 2[]
- Level 74: "Australis"— A frigid field. A raging snowstorm. An ice-cold beginning for a grand conflict.
"With this, I could control everything!
...Everything.
...
...I knew what to do now.
[Mák wis káotik hǝlhoǝl my domán, my pláфinг]."
Tales[]
Phase 1[]
- The Lone Soldier—A champion of a race fights for freedom against foul gods.
"The sounds of whizzing bullets, whirring lasers, and wailing artillery filled the air with a haze of radioactive ash."
Phase 3[]
- Approach of Terminus—A tale from the end.
"The only sound that could be heard here was the low howling of an unseen, unfelt wind lapping against some imaginary surface, the clouds above roiling in their silent fury."
Entities[]
Phase 1[]
- The Scourge—A god of disease, afflicted with madness; with terrible consequences.
"In the palm of its hand was a sphere of fractal-like patterns, making it clear that The Scourge successfully absorbed the Jawbreaker's power.
Its aura and power proved to be unfathomable; its decay had surpassed the laws of space, no longer needing contact in order to annihilate its target."
