Description
Sentinels are territorial entities that usually attack wanderers in groups. They are equal to the size of a human being and can be a very dangerous threat if the wanderer is not careful. They are hostile to any living being that is near a territory that they have already marked, so if they see a wanderer too far from this place, they won't bother attacking. This marked place generally is within closed or narrow areas, so Sentinels aren't seen outdoors very often.
Sentinels operate with a system of hierarchies; they will only obey the strongest. In a group, Sentinels will only protect those they know. If one of its own species approaches, and it's not part of the group, it will be attacked.
There are only a few cases of survivors of a sentinel attack due to its mortality, but also, since they are made of radioactive material, they greatly shorten the life of the victim and leave it with permanent marks.
Biology
Sentinels have the appearance of pure debris corrosion on their bodies. They seem to have developed long legs to move around, and they generally place an object on their faces to recognize each other (this can be a human or an entity's skull).
Its origin is unknown, but due to everything mentioned above, it's most likely that radioactive remains, through an unknown cause, have possessed the ability to think and move. Sentinels seem to be able to manipulate their body as they wish; they have been seen in irregular shapes and even in a liquid state. Due to this composition, Sentinels don't need to feed or drink and seem to attack solely by instinct.
Behavior
As aforementioned, they are extremely aggressive and cannot be domesticated. Even so, there are some variants that can be even more dangerous, attacking even those of their own species.
Tier 1:
They are quite small in size, they do not exceed the size of a common dog. Tier 1 Sentinels attack everything that moves that is not of the same species. They are very fast and have a force similar to that of a human being, but they can be repelled or scared by some bright light. They are the easiest to study due to this weakness.
Tier 2:
The most common to find, and those who have caused many deaths. Tier 2 Sentinels form groups to attack anyone who approaches their territory. They have superhuman strength, and they usually finish off their victims quite quickly.
They have been seen attacking Deathmoths, Slashers, Wretches and Smilers.
Tier 3:
Tier 3 Sentinels are the biggest and strongest among the sentinels; they attack indiscriminately, even against their own species. They attack alone and only roam around without establishing a territory, waiting for a victim.
Fortunately, they are extremely rare.
Discovery
During an exploration in Level 207, the outpust group Catacomb Raiders were attacked by black masses the size of a vehicle. Following the report, the M.E.G. found a group of six sentinels who were still close to the area.
Gas masks had to be worn due to the radioactive material and the horrible smell they emitted. They were all able to be neutralized, and the investigations began on May 10, 2019, four days after the first encounter.
