Description
Carbonations are mysterious anomalous events forming exotic lifeforms made of solely oxocarbons (Oxocarbons are compounds made of only carbon atoms and oxygen atoms), especially gaseous compounds such as carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. The process of a Carbonation forming appears to consist of an unpredictable field affecting a space, and if said space were to contain a sufficient amount of oxocarbon compounds, they would cluster and be altered to allow the creation of a Carbonation.
Further study may need to be conducted on Level 2 and Level 28. There is an unusually high frequency of Carbonation manifestation events occurring in the spaces within these listed levels. It is most likely as a result of the machinery and piping present throughout either of these levels.
Behavior
Some Carbonations may be passive in nature feeding off natural sources of carbon dioxide but some may be capable of attacking wanderers due to their exhalation of carbon dioxide and desire for more. In worst case scenarios, wanderers can even catch parasitic forms of Carbonations where the entity consumes the carbon dioxide being emitted in the lungs.
It is possible for Carbonations to cause risk to any container storing carbon dioxide in the Backrooms, for they could manifest in these containers and as previously mentioned even the lungs of wanderers. The odds of these are typically significantly reduced in comparison to standard events where they manifest outside of containers and bodies.
Biology
A Carbonation is typically very unstable in the sense that it will dissociate back into standard non-anomalous oxocarbons at any moment, but most cases of a Carbonation forming will last a few minutes all the way to hours. In order for them to prolong their lifespans, they typically consume more oxocarbons as a form of nutrition.
The anomalous oxocarbon that a Carbonation is made out of appears to behave unpredictably. Its properties are subject to change in order to allow its biology to be possible. Upon severing parts of the anomalous oxocarbon off its body, damaging the entity in the process, the anomalous oxocarbon will also turn back into standard oxocarbon.
Most Carbonations typically digest consumed oxocarbons into carbon dioxide, but in some cases anomalously alter the phases of their composition to allow thought-to-be impossible states of oxocarbons to occur such as room-temperature dry-ice or denser metallic anhydrides as armor. Many Carbonations however may altogether not exist as a solid or liquid state at all and may exist solely as an anomalously stable & functional gaseous lifeform. In rare cases, Carbonations have been found to be able to create allotropes of carbon and oxygen by anomalous means alongside the synthesis of extreme phases of compounds it utilizes such as supercritical carbon dioxide.
Resource Synthesis
Because Carbonations are capable of transmuting oxocarbon compounds into other compounds of the same nature with great ease, it could be possible to obtain useful oxocarbon based compounds that would typically be difficult to produce. It would simply require slaughtering the Carbonation in order to convert the anomalous synthesized oxocarbon compounds back into their non-anomalous counterparts. These compounds may split apart should their non-anomalous variants bear properties that make it impossible to exist in the conditions of the environment it is contained within.
