This page needs a rewrite.
Date: 1/15/26
Reason: Too fantasy and human-like; people selling items is already found throughout habitable leveels. Also the image shows the entity in Level 0, despite being devoid of life (lore hole). The concept doesn't make sense: smiler but sell thing

Entity 3-B - "Clypto"[]
ENTITY NO. 3-B
THREAT LEVEL
3
Habitat:
Anywhere
Aggression: 1/5
Attacks if threatened
Intellect: 5/5
Surpasses human IQ
Danger: 4/5
Life-threatening
Description:[]
Entity 3-B, now known as “Clypto”, is a mutated version of Entity 3 with a clear humanoid shape, most resembling a sort of lycanthrope creature with a heavyset body type. It towers over all wanderers. Its body is covered in thick, void-like fur, save for the two horns on its head.
The entity can set up makeshift “Shops” where it trades several items it has managed to obtain through many levels. These shops are what gave the entity its self imposed title; “The Merchant Smiler”.
Due to its elusive nature and ability to vanish into the darkness and shadows of the infinite levels, its true nature and origin has never been documented. So all information that is currently recorded has been from observations and testimonies from wanderers, M.EG personnel, and other notable sources.
Behaviors:[]
Despite being an entity, “Clypto” has demonstrated behaviors that are akin to that of a sort of trader, able to carry out full conversations with no issue or mimicry. It has the intelligence of a human, being able to feign empathy and sympathy with lost wanders and offer them items that could possibly help them in getting to other levels. It has also been spotted guiding some wanderers to other colonies that it has supposedly gained the trust of. It seems to act in good faith, but still makes the subject promise to pay them a visit and to trade them any valuable items or “memories” they have, putting the wanderer in a sort of debt to it.
Despite its outward benevolent appearance, it is still capable of causing harm to those who bother it, or cause too much trouble for the entity. If someone tries to steal an item or information from Entity 3-B, it will get annoyed, catching the thief with its giant claws and refusing to let go until the thief lets go of the item. Repeated attempts of theft get the thief forcibly “kicked out” from the “shop” and put on the “Blacklist” of its shop. The same will happen to those who try to haggle the entity for free items, and those who chose to try and pick a fight with the entity are often harmed a bit worse. So it is often recommended to practice general good manners around Entity 3-B, like if one was shopping in a store.
Biology:[]
Entity 3-B is a variety of Smilers and is currently the only known and recorded entity of this sort of subspecies. Unlike its main species, Entity 3-B is characterized by its more humanoid shape, resembling a lycanthropic form, rather than the unknown form of Entity 3. The only attributes that still connect the two species is the void-like pigment of its body and the glowing white eyes and fangs of its face.
The most notable physical abnormality of Entity 3-B is its unnaturally long arms, the knuckles touching the ground due to their length. Despite the length the entity uses these arms to help itself get around, it has been seen using its arms to climb up into perches and places that would be impossible for normal humans to get to without tools or assistance. It has also been seen using these arms to carry around a large black tarp as a sort of bindle that it uses for its “Shop”.
Another significant difference with Entity 3-B is its resistance to light. Most “Smilers” are known to be avoidant to light, but Entity 3-B is uncaring of how the light affects it. Light does not impact the entity in any way, shape, or form, so it can still see clearly in both light and dark areas. The reason for the immunity is still not known, but with the record of the other attributes of this entity, it is safe to assume it is a work of its own evolution.
As of ████████ there have been sightings that Entity 3-B has started sporting a large black tail. this appendage is akin to that of an elongated feline tail, long, thick, and black just like the rest of the entity's body. Its seen using the tail for holding items, moving around levels through hanging from said appendage, to even tripping unexpecting wanderers. Although what has been noted is that the end of the tail changes, from being a nub, to a clawed hand, to even a face mimicking that of Smilers. However these claims have no physical proof, only stories and claims from passing wanderers.
Discovery:[]
There had been several reports and stories from wanderers of Entity 3-B’s existence and behaviors, even some first hand encounters with the entity from M.E.G as well. Some of these wanderers have also gave M.E.G items that they have traded or “bought” from the entity for analysis. But none have been concrete enough to solidify an official documentation for this entity.
That was until M.E.G Operative ████████ had a run in with Entity 3-B as it was setting up its “Shop” in Level 1. From the body cam footage that was taken from Operative ████████, we witnessed first hand the entity’s tradesman-like personality, selling the operative various items that could help someone in dangerous levels. However, what caught the agent’s attention was the presence of a black box that could be seen holding various sensitive documents from M.E.G and other noticeable groups. After being asked about the box, Entity 3-B remarked that it was not for sale and to look for other things that would interest them. The agent asked again, remarking how they are in possession of sensitive information and need to hand it over. That seemed to anger the entity, having it stand up slightly, sternly reminded the operative that the box was not for sale. Operative ████████ had then backed down, wanting to avoid escalation and harm to themselves. From there the operative had left, but not before Entity 3-B had given a warning not to go looking in places they shouldn't.
Since the discovery, that the entity has valuable information from M.E.G and other groups, it has become of the utmost importance that any M.E.G personnel that come in contact with Entity 3-B to get that box, or the documents inside.
Entity 3-B’s “Shop”[]
Entity 3-B, as stated multiple times before hand, has a “Shop”. This shop physically consists of an estimated, large 10’x10’ black tarp as its base with various items scattered about its surface in clusters of similarity. Where Entity 3-B gets these items is currently unknown.
The list of following items are present in Entity 3-B’s shop are as follows, but are not limited to:
- Almond water
- Cashew Water
- Bottled liquid pain
- Gas masks
- Radios
- Walky-talkies
- Sleeping bags
- Cameras
- Furniture (of any kind)
- Level keys
- Candy
- Moth jelly
- Tarot cards
- Video Game consoles with video games
- Boardgames
- Books
- Flashies
- CTV cameras
- Kalthoff Rifles (And other weapons such as knives, handguns etc)
- Singing wall fish displays
- Construction equipment (drills, hammers, wrenches, saws, screwdrivers, etc.)
- Firesalt
- Kaboom-Boxes
- Magic Door knobs
- Luck Clovers
- Achrophiline
- Emotional Glass
- Destabilizers
- A black box filled with valuable and sensitive documents from M.E.G and other groups from the Backrooms
Usually "Clypto" will set up the shop in safe levels. If there is a hostile entity around the shop, Entity 3-B will either chase it away itself or kill it, mostly in sight of any possible client as a sign of good faith and a way to gain trust.
The shop will also not be in places where there is substantial monitoring, if there is any sort of CCTV camera or any other monitoring equipment around certain sections of a level, then the Entity will first destroy that surveillance equipment, possibly stealing it in the process, then move their shop somewhere else.
There have been sightings of writing on the walls that point towards Entity 3-B’s “Shop” whenever it is present in a level. The writing is drawn with the same black liquid that is seen on other writing seen on the walls of Level 0. There have been recordings of these signs being in Level 0 and Level 37. Once Entity 3-B leaves, these signs will disappear after an undisclosed amount of time. then move their shop somewhere else.
Addendum(s)[]
As of ████████████████ Entity 3-B had agreed to an interview with some of the M.E.G researchers to better understand what and who it is, in exchange for some information from M.E.G. Below is the following transcript of the interview of Entity 3-B.
START OF INTERVIEW[]
Head Researcher ███████████: Recording has started. The interview will now begin
Researcher ██████: Hello Entity 3-B,Thank you for-
Entity 3-B: So that is what you know me by? Hehe, there's no need for formalities dear, just call me Clypto.
Researcher ██████: … Okay, “Clypto”. As I was saying, Thank you for agreeing with this interview. This will help M.E.G better understand not just you, but how Entity 3 works as a whole.
Entity 3-B: It's no problem at all dear! As long as you hold up your end of the bargain, then there won't be any issue here.
Researcher ██████: Very Well. Let's begin with the questions.
Researcher ██████: Do you know what you are? More specifically, do you know what Entity 3 is? More so what “Smilers” are?
Entity 3-B: I know what I am and I know who I am. That's the biggest anchor to keeping one's sanity here, isn't it? Lose your sense of self and you lose everything.
Entity 3-B: But, yes I know of my predecessors; Smilers, as you call them. They are like my ancestors in a way; they had come before me, and without them I would not be who I am now.
Researcher ██████: I see. So, it's a sort of evolution?
Entity 3-B: In a sense, yes. I've simply become what my ancestors would have wished they could be; full, stronger, and brave enough to stand in defiance of the lights.
Researcher ██████: Next question, Why do you have this sort of “Shop”? Why do you want to do business with wanderers and other colonies?
Entity 3-B: You answered that yourself Dr.██████! For business! Any good business owner wants to make a profit at the end of the day, and while this realm doesn't abide by your humans version of trade and sell. There can still be a way to trade goods and services, even without all that fangled taxes, extra charges, all that nonsense you humans made up. Just goods for goods and services for services!
Researcher ██████: …H-How did you know-
Head Researcher ███████████: Stick to the questions Doctor.
Researcher ██████: Y-Yes… Next question. What is your goal with trading and selling the items you find? And why have you made these partnerships with different colonies?
Entity 3-B: To reiterate, it's strictly for business. All I want to do is keep afloat in this hellish realm. It's hard for new wanderers to survive in this place, even less so for those who find themselves with nothing to help them. And I capitalize on that so that, I can be seen as trustworthy to those who need help. I give them items and information to prolong their eventual demise in this place, and I get information on how different species of humans function and work. In the end, they get safety, I gain the trust of wanderers so they can keep coming back to give me valuable information they find to trade even more.
Entity 3-B: Its all a game of trust, you need people to trust you if you're going to live down here. You all know that well, don't you?
Entity 3-B: But besides that, the same can be said for the colonies these wanderers form. They spread the good word of the “Smiler Merchant” And more of them flock to my store whenever they see it open. Heh, I've even heard some of those colonies have a sort of watch party on the lookout for me whenever I set up shop in the levels they live in. Quite precious, don't you think?
Researcher ██████: Interesting… Almost done here.
Researcher ██████: Do you have any recurring customers?
Entity 3-B: I indeed do! I have a few regulars who actually manage to keep trade with me, Wanderers that manage to live longer than a day, some folks from the B.N.T.G, just to name a few.
Researcher ██████: And what do you usually do with these "regulars"?
Entity 3-B: I treat them as any other traveler, make trades, talk, the general actions one does when trading. But seeing how they are still alive, and keeping coming back, more of my inventory will be open for trade. Since they have proven to me that they are capable of making profitable deals, they deserve high quality items.
Researcher ██████: And what are these high quality items?
Entity 3-B: Well, become one of my regulars and find out for yourself! (The entity starts laughing.)
(Researcher ██████ lets out an annoyed sigh.)
Researcher ██████: Moving on... Where did you come from?
Entity 3-B: Oh hoho! Interesting question there Doctor! For that, I can't say. Even business makers have to have their secrets as well.
Head Researcher ███████████: Please answer the question. Or else, you won't get your end of the deal Entity-
Entity 3-B: Clypto. ... And, very well. But I won't give it to you directly.
Entity 3-B: I came from a level that was only void. But soon the light blinded all and I was alone. But, one day, I wasn't, I was taught the art of business management, then I was alone again. That is your answer. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Researcher ██████: Very well… Last question. What do you plan on doing with M.E.G’s documents you have in your possession? How did you even get that information?
Entity 3-B: Simply, I keep them for myself. It's fun reading material! I've learned a lot about you M.E.G folk, a very interesting bunch you all are!
Entity 3-B: As for how I got it, well, let's just say I have connections. Many connecting lines of connections, in fact!
Researcher ██████: And what happens if someone comes by wanting to trade for that information?
Entity 3-B: Well, it depends. If the customer wants information from the M.E.G folder, then they have to give me something equal in value; maybe another group’s information, or another M.E.G file.
Head Researcher ███████████: Then this interview will end here. Thank you for your cooperation, Entity 3-B, but due to you having classified M.E.G information and documents, we cannot let you go until you give us those documents back.
Entity 3-B: And what do you have to trade in return for that information?
Head Researcher ███████████: There is nothing to trade here. You have information you should not have had in the first place, and we will be taking what is ours.
Entity 3-B: …
(The entity audibly sighs, a light sound of growling if heard)
Entity 3-B: This is what I can't understand from you all. You just take and take, you all never give back to those you take from. You can't just keep taking and not expect a debt to be building.
Entity 3-B: But no matter. Since the deal has gone down the drain, and I have yet to get my side of the bargain, I will simply take something else.
Researcher ██████:… What do you mean?
Entity 3-B: Hehehe. You know, not all my deals have to be information for information. I can also take information for items as well. And it just so happens that you all have items that match the value of information I had given you.
Entity 3-B: Thank you for your cooperation in advance!
(From there, Entity 3-B stands from its sitting position and leaps at the interviewer, knocking the camera over in the process.)
(All that is heard is screaming, the deafening sound of the entity’s laughter, and distant snapping sounds.)
(Then, silence slowly drifts in. Nothing is heard for a few minutes, until the slowly approaching foot steps of the Entity to the camera.)
Entity 3-B: Such a shame it had to end this way. But what can you do? Deals will happen one way or another.
Entity 3-B: Just as a formal statement, all M.E.G personnel are blacklisted from my shop! Thank you for doing business with me, Clypto, the Merchant Smiler! Hope to see you all never!
(Footage cuts.)
After the interview, an M.E.G retrieval up crew was sent to the site of the interview, but found that the bodies of the operatives had gone missing. It was first assumed that Entity 3-B took and possibly consumed the corpses. But, a while after the interview had taken place, wanderers were soon seen with the researchers' clothes and other items the interviewers had before their deaths.
Entity 3-B has now had their Danger level updated from Low Priority to Life Threatening after this event. M.E.G personnel are advised to avoid contact with Entity 3-B for their own safety.
Survival Guide[]
What Should Be Done[]
- Make deals and trades with Entity 3-B. This can greatly increase the survival chances of new wanderers.
- Converse with it. Most of the time, Entity 3-B may give advice on surviving certain levels if asked.
- Be polite to it. Treat the Entity as another wanderer, and not an entity.
- Make deals with the Entity to get any classified M.E.G Documentation back into M.E.G's custody. If successful, please return the documents to the nearest MEG base as soon as possible.
What Should Not Be Done[]
- Refuse to uphold your end of a deal. See Interview above for an example for avoiding backing out of a deal.
- Be rude and impolite to it. This can lead to getting worse results out of a deal.
- Try and steal items and information from it without proper trade. This can lead to bodily harm.
