The Mime is a singular entity that is notoriously difficult to escape. It possesses multiple anomalous abilities, one of which is the ability to actively utilize Phenomenon 14 to instantly move between locations of its choosing that are affected by the phenomenon[1]. It can even accomplish this with individual body parts; for example, if it were to hold its arm out of view behind a wall in a non-linear space, its arm would be able to appear from behind a completely different wall in that same space. Fortunately, it can only do this in areas that are already under the phenomenon's effects, rendering escape from the Mime much more likely in places without Shifting Geometry.
The entity is capable of shifting between two forms. In one of its forms, which is less humanoid, it can summon tentacles that break through nearby surfaces like walls, floors, or ceilings to assist in catching and killing its targets. Only a pitch-black void can be seen where the tentacles emerge from[2]. After a tentacle retreats back into the darkness, the hole it made will anomalously quickly repair itself, with any debris that resulted from the breach disappearing immediately before reappearing back where it was before.
Behaviour
When encountering a wanderer, the Mime initially does not attack, instead following them and either mimicking the wanderer's own actions or putting on random exaggerated performances similarly to how a human mime normally would. In regards to the latter, examples of such behaviours include energetic waving, remaining still in a specific pose, and even dancing. The entity also often performs equally exaggerated reactions to things its victims say or do, such as feigning sadness if a wanderer insults it or surprise if a wanderer charges at it in an attempt to kill it. It is likely that all of its performances are its way of toying with its victims. However, the Mime will always defend itself if it has to, so trying to fight it is highly unadvised.
The Mime may often switch between masks with differing expressions to better suit its performances[3]. However, it only does this out of sight, so it is unknown how it is able to access all of its masks despite it clearly only having one with it whenever it is seen. Some theories as to how this is possible include the entity somehow having access to an unknown space where most of its masks are stored and it only actually having one mask that is capable of changing expressions. It is unknown if the Mime only changing masks when unobserved is due to a mysterious restriction or choice on the entity's part.
Even when left unprovoked, the Mime will eventually cease its theatrics and attack any wanderers who it was following up until that point, persistently pursuing them until it catches them. Likewise, any wanderers who seem close to escaping will also immediately be assaulted. When becoming hostile, the entity will morph into its non-humanoid form, which it will retain until its target(s) has either escaped or perished.
The Mime is notably sadistic, as it will often delibrately put its victims through high amounts of pain before killing them. Some methods it uses to do so include tearing off limbs and gouging out eyes; in particular, it seems to favour breaking all of its victims' limbs over all other methods of torture. Soon after, the entity dispatches its victims, often via blunt force trauma or evisceration.
All discovered post-mortem victims of the Mime were found in grotesque and bizarre states, with reports involving disembodied heads propped up on tables, victims with their faces swapped, torn-off hands pointing toward their respective bodies in such positions that the hands are likely to be found before the bodies, and many more.
Biology
The Mime is always dressed in a black and white, full body clown costume complete with large black shoes, white gloves, a white clown hood, and, as earlier mentioned, a white mime mask. As such, most of its true appearance remains ambiguous, with the exception of the mime-like, black and white stripe pattern on its arms and legs[4] and the pitch-blackness seen beyond its mask's facial openings. Moreover, the tentacles also bear the same stripes.
Oddly, any bloodstains on the Mime or the tentacles from past victims will be completely absent when it begins stalking its next victim if at least around 6 hours has passed since it both last shed blood and was last seen. This also holds true for any other damage to its costume (for example, from gunshots), which will likewise be remedied.
The form that the Mime assumes when not attacking appears humanoid; however, when morphing into its distorted form, its arms and legs will become much longer and far more flexible, seemingly losing their joints in the process, and gain the ability to extend to even more extreme lengths of unknown limits. Its fingers and the fingers of the gloves covering them will extend into sharp claws[5] and the positions of the entity's limbs will slightly change to accomodate a quadrupedal structure.
In its distorted form, the Mime is much stronger than the average human and extremely durable, being able to instantly break down sealed metal doors and remain nigh-unharmed from gunfire; the tentacles that it can summon also share these traits. Although documented attacks that caught the entity by surprise confirm that it is also highly durable in its humanoid form, it is unknown if this is also the case with its strength, as it never chooses to display any feat of strength when in said form.
The tentacles, which are commonly believed to be extentions of the Mime itself, are each about half a meter wide and of indeterminable length. However, they seem unable to pursue targets for more than approximately 8 meters. Thus, escape from them is very difficult as they could appear anywhere near the entity itself.
Footnotes
- ↑ As with the phenomenon itself, this ability can only function when the entity is not being observed.
- ↑ This is generally believed to be The Void.
- ↑ Aside from the expressions, all the masks are the same.
- ↑ As visible when the entity is in its distorted form.
- ↑ Due to the claws still being effective at slashing wanderers and the gloves never tearing, it is speculated that the hands and gloves are fused together either only in the entity's distorted form or in both forms.
