“It's rather ironic that, in German tradition, nutcrackers are symbols of good luck and scare away malevolent spirits. In contrast, it's unlucky to encounter the Backrooms entity of the same name and Nutcrackers, while in their more dangerous form, look as if they're possessed by the very evil spirits that their non-sentient variants are meant to repel.”

Nutcracker

Nutcrackers are vicious entities that normally appear as regular Christmas nutcracker dolls from the Frontrooms. However, when they spot a wanderer, they will take on a more horrifying and dangerous form.

Nutcrackers vary in size, and while all Nutcrackers are dangerous and should be treated as such, the threat a Nutcracker poses to a wanderer is somewhat determined by its size; life-size Nutcrackers are far more dangerous and life-threatening than miniature Nutcrackers. The largest known possible height of a Nutcracker is 1.7 m (5.6 ft), approximately the size of an adult male, while the smallest recorded height is 11 cm (4.3 in).

Nutcrackers can be found in certain levels associated with Christmas, though not all Christmas-related levels harbor these entities. One should always be prepared for encounters with Nutcrackers in Christmas-themed levels. However, if one sees a nutcracker outside of a Christmas-related level, one should still avoid it unless absolutely necessary as a precaution. Subtly retreating is a good way to avoid Nutcrackers, though if the Nutcracker knows of one's awareness to its true nature, one should run away instead.

Behaviors[]

When a Nutcracker is in its regular form, it will usually pose as a normal nutcracker, though it will sometimes wander around the general area it is in. When it is posing as a regular nutcracker, it will be standing on its corresponding platform.

If a Nutcracker encounters a wanderer, it will immediately morph into its deadly form and attempt to kill them, though sometimes they will taunt the wanderer by moving around unseen first before attacking. Methods of attack that Nutcrackers use are biting and punching, as well as hitting or stabbing the wanderer with any hand-held objects they possess.

Interestingly, if a Nutcracker possesses a corresponding weapon-related object, it is more likely to use it to attack wanderers than Nutcrackers with different corresponding objects such as drums or staffs. It is theorized that this is because they recognize their original non-wooden variants' intended purposes.

Biology[]

Nutcracker2

Due to Nutcrackers being almost entirely made of wood and not having any anatomy whatsoever, it is assumed that an anomalous effect is enabling them to be sentient and able to move. However, researchers have not come close to discovering what this effect may be; some theorize that it is the same anomaly that allows entities such as Entity 2 to be sentient, or at least similar to it.

When a Nutcracker is in its normal form it is, by all appearances, a regular nutcracker doll; it even has a traditional platform to stand on. The platform is not considered to be a part of the Nutcracker, but rather a means to its disguise. The Nutcracker can fuse its feet to the platform at will and separate them from the platform without leaving any marks.

While transitioning into its deadlier form, a Nutcracker will grow marginally in size and its features will become more menacing; its spherical fists will transform into clawed hands, its eyes will become 3-dimensional with eye sockets to accompany them and its teeth will also take on more realistic traits[1]. The Nutcracker will also become more humanoid, its wooden body snapping and bending to allow freedom of movement.

When a Nutcracker moves, it will make snapping sounds due to its body being mostly made of wood and it not having any natural joints, meaning that one may be able to discern if a Nutcracker is moving nearby by listening for these sounds. Moreover, when the Nutcracker is in its deadly form, it will make snapping sounds more frequently due to it being more physically distorted.

As Nutcrackers are mostly made of wood, they are extremely susceptible to fire. If a Nutcracker is exposed to even the tiniest flame, it could be up in flames in seconds.

Discovery[]

The Nutcracker entity was first discovered on the 23rd of December in 2015 when a group of M.E.G. explorers found an unknown level and subsequently came across one of them. Before the explorers could properly document the level, the Nutcracker brutally killed them and destroyed the recording equipment that the group had been using to record their findings.

Footnotes

  1. Some Nutcrackers gain much sharper, more predatory teeth when transforming.
