Description[]
A photograph of a Vegemite taken in an unknown level. Photographer is most likely deceased, as the Vegemite in the photo appears to be leaping at the photographer.
Entity 492, better known as Vegemites, are vicious, incredibly aggressive entities that normally appear as vegetables from the Frontrooms with insect-like attributes that reside in levels with any type of vegetation. This includes levels with plants, vines, bushes, and rarely, even trees.
Behaviors[]
Vegemites are thought to be one of the most aggressive entities in the Backrooms. Not only do they attack wanderers, they will attack any other entity that is not of their species, chasing down said wanderer/entity until they either leave their territory, or fall to the Vegemite's attack.
A pack of Vegemites will find an area with dirt, or plant life, and start to gather organic matter such as parts of past victims, flesh, or plants and construct a hive similar to a wasp nest, where after construction of said hive, Vegemites will bring resources such as food, extra matter, and bodies containing Vegemite eggs. The hives Vegemites construct are also much bigger than wasp nests, usually being at least a foot taller than the average human. Multiple Vegemite hives may exist in one level, but Vegemites are not territorial with other Vegemites from different hives.
Vegemites aren't life-threatening if there is only one (one should still be careful) but if there is a pack of Vegemites in one area, attacks are almost guaranteed to be fatal. A pack of Vegemites is also referred to as a jar.
A photograph of the photographer's hand after being injected with venom. Photographer confirmed dead.
A Vegemite attacks by extending a stinger out of the bottom of its "vegetable part" and injecting a unique type of venom into the victim. The venom injected into victims is also how Vegemites reproduce, since they lack organs for that purpose. Only one dose of the venom can have effects such as headaches, intense nausea and passing out, and bodily fluids and skin turning slightly greenish. These effects do wear off after approximately half a day. When many doses of Vegemite venom are injected into a victim, fatal effects start to happen. These effects include instant death, bodily fluids and skin turning permanently greenish (which leads to death after a long period of time anyways), and leaves and plant stems sprouting from the victim. Repeatedly dosing a victim with venom for a long time will not only kill the victim very shortly after the doses, the victim, now a corpse, will turn into a more mushy, paste-like state, which is suitable for Vegemite consumption. When the victim does die from the venom, this is when eggs will sprout inside the person, and if there is Vegemites in the area, they will collectively drag the body back to their hive, if there isn't one constructed yet, the Vegemites would just build a hive using the body or by building around it.
There are several ways to survive a Vegemite attack, considering when one happens the attacking Vegemites are all in a group. Methods such as explosives work well, since the blast will most likely effect all of the attacking Vegemites. Since a Vegemite is considered plant life, and they live in areas with plant life, fire is hands-down the best method to deal with Vegemites. The flames will burn the area, and if there is plant life in the area, it will spread to that too, creating an even bigger fire that will almost always set each Vegemite in the area ablaze. Any way to affect all Vegemites in the area would work well to deal with them, such as finding a way to shock the area with electricity. If there are only a couple of Vegemites attacking you, it would be best to use blunt force, as Vegemites are moderately small and delicate.
If one finds a body dead by Vegemite venom, one should destroy the corpse immediately, so no new Vegemites can sprout from it, but one should still be careful, since most likely there would be Vegemites in the area that would be near the corpse, going to retrieve the corpse, or just out of human sight.
Biology[]
A Vegemite appears to resemble a vegetable from the Frontrooms with usually eight dark green spider-like tendrils that it uses to walk. On the tips of a Vegemite's "legs," there are tiny holes that it uses to suck nutrients up and into its body, similar to the roots of a plant. A Vegemite is usually 7.6 inches in height. Hidden out of sight, Vegemites have retractable bee-like stingers that hold unique venom in the bottom of their "vegetable part." Vegemites use these stingers to attack prey, mark territory with the venom, and stick the stinger into dead victims to drag them (This action is usually done collectively).
The inside of a Vegemite has several unique organs that it uses to function. Additionally, a Vegemite has a bodily fluid running through it. It has been recorded that this liquid is similar to blood, and a Vegemite needs it to live. This fluid seems to be a thick, nutrient-rich, dark brown, almost paste-like liquid. It has been recorded that this "blood," when closely examined, seems to contain several vegetable and spice additives. Some scientists who have studied Vegemites say that this "blood" seems to resemble vegemite. Near the bottom of the inside of a Vegemite, there appears to be a pouch-like organ connected to the legs, and other parts inside the Vegemite.. It has been observed that this organ is like that of a stomach, and that it dissolves matter brought into it, essentially digesting food in the Vegemite. This organ is also connected to a Vegemite's stinger, and that food digested by the Vegemite is turned into venom, then sent into the stinger to be used by the Vegemite. As said below, Vegemites do infact have brains. When closely studied, a Vegemite brain appears to have a reddish hue, similar to the skin of a Vegemite, and takes up an estimated 1/3 inside of a Vegemite's body. Vegemites also have several veins coursing through them, that move nutrients and other fluids through a Vegemite. Additionally, a Vegemite has been observed to roughly have the basic structure of a tomato inside of it.
A Vegemite, although having a small brain, has its own intelligence. Most of the actions a Vegemite does is instinct, like building a hive, or attacking a wanderer or entity. It is also noted that Vegemites will attempt to attack any entity, even ones such as Entity 515. The attack was not successful, as Entity 515 killed the attacking Vegemites.
Rarely, when a Vegemite is hatching from an egg, mutations can occur. These include Vegemites resembling other vegetables, such as broccoli, potatoes, or carrots. Instead of resembling a different vegetable, Vegemites can instead mutate to have a different hue. Recorded colors include green Vegemites, purple Vegemites, orange Vegemites and white Vegemites.
After a dead victim has been used to build a hive or the eggs inside it have sprouted, Vegemites will use their stingers to repeatedly stab the corpse into a more mushy state. This makes the corpse suitable to be easily torn into smaller pieces and be sucked up a Vegemite's legs for consumption.
Discovery[]
Vegemites were discovered right after a group of wanderers noclipped into a level, they were almost immediately attacked by a jar of Vegemites.
A theory states that Vegemites might grow from the plants of levels with vegetation. This theory has not yet been confirmed.
