Description[]

SAOTE (Sentient Afflicting Organic Transmutation Epidemic), collectively referred to as Limrot, is a BSL-3-class anomalous biohazard native to the Backrooms. The infection can come in various strains and affect wanderers in various ways.

Limrot, in its most basic form, manifests as a flesh-like substance within levels or areas within levels that can emit a nostalgic emotion within wanderers. These locations can differ for every person, making it difficult to document and explain. While only one wanderer may experience the infection at a time, more than one person can experience Limrot at once. Limrot has several variations that change its appearance, method of infection, effects, and sentience.

LR-A[]

Description[]

LR-A is the base form of Limrot. This strain of Limrot infects wanderers by finding open areas around someone's ankles or feet to find a path to the inner nervous system and bloodstream, at which point it will find its way toward parts of the body with poor blood circulation, such as the fingers or feet, or attempts to infect the Brachial Plexus. From there, LR-A can halt blood flow to the aforementioned spots in the bloodstream, slowing down or even halting arm and hand movements.

This strain of Limrot is non-lethal, and its effects can be treated; however, if left untreated, it can lead to permanent damage to the nervous system and the bloodstream in aforementioned areas, which can cause constant numbness and tingling, reduced motor functions, and muscle weakness. Depending on the severity of the infection, it could cause further harm and possibly be fatal. If the infection has gotten into someone's bloodstream, it can be remedied by taking antiviral medication found within medical levels. For a central nervous system infection, antibiotics could work, but there is a chance it may have no effect.

Behavior[]

Limrot will usually wait for a wanderer to stumble by them, at which point it will try to infect them. This form of Limrot does not move from its original location to attempt to follow or chase wanderers, as it will instead remain in its original location until the wanderer either gets infected or leaves the location.

Biology[]

The biology of Limrot can change vastly due to their various forms; however, most presume all strains of the infection have a structure similar to decaying or rotting flesh, with anomalous abilities and functions.

Discovery[]

Limrot was only recently discovered and seems to have been recently created, although it's not known how it came into existence. One theory, however, is that due to the increase in human egress entering from The Frontrooms, there is an overabundance of emotions emitted from said people that are condensed into sentient infectious beings that seek out wanderers to sustain themselves.

The first strain of Limrot was first discovered on 23/1/24 in Level 898 in the medium to high loops within the level by a member of the Backroom Colonists, going on a short expedition to find supplies. The member came back unaffected by the infection. The of Limrot that they came across was presumed to be the most common and basic form, LR-A, but due to the nature of the infection, it could not be confirmed.

Guide[]

Limrot can be avoided by attempting to block out nostalgic thoughts or not going to places that one may be nostalgic towards. If one is to encounter LR-A, avoid getting near the infection, as it might attempt to grab whoever is close. Simply leaving or putting as much distance between oneself and the infection will suffice. Limrot is highly susceptible to fire and can be burned away, which can weaken it, allowing one to get past it if unable to beforehand.

General Notes[]

After the original discovery of Limrot, the E.R.C. stepped in to begin documentation and research involving the infection classifying it as an entity. Only members of the E.R.C. are allowed access to the following files, as they may affect how one may view this reality and themselves.-Check below the last paragraph.

LR-B[]

Description[]

LR-B is a variant of Limrot that deviates from the base strain. LR-B appears much darker in color with a blue hue. Besides this it doesn't look any different compared to the base strain, but LR-B infects its victims by releasing gaseous spores that make their way into someone's respiratory system. Once the spores infect someone, victims experience different stages of infection that differ from the normal variant.

Stage 1 Simple Cold or Flu lasting for several days, leaving victims tired and sore.
Stage 2 Causes victims to often feel sad or melancholic for various reasons relating to their personal life, as well as previous symptoms.
Stage 3 Escalation of previous symptoms. This can cause more LR-B to spawn.
Behavior[]

LR-B acts similar to the original variant, as it waits for victims to come close to it before attempting to infect them. However, LR-B appears to have an area around it from which it will release its gaseous spores. Once its spores have been released, it won't attempt to grab or infect a victim physically and will become inactive.

Discovery[]

LR-B was discovered two weeks after the original discovery of Limrot in 15/2/24, when two E.R.C. members experienced LR-B within Level 307. Both members were attacked and returned to where they were stationed. Both members were quarantined for five days before being discharged. Soon afterwards, more instances of LR-B started spawning within other levels.

Guide[]

Similar to LR-A, LR-B is susceptible to fire and can be burned to make it inactive. Follow all previous precautions and recommendations previously mentioned in the LR-A guide section. However, if one manages to encounter LR-B and is attacked by it, have a gas mask ready to ensure one doesn't inhale any spores. If left without a gas mask, covering the face and holding oneself breath while sprinting away. If attempting to burn LR-B, back away to a safe distance, as it may release its spores, which will combust when it touches fire.

I'm putting this here just so I can have a clear mind, I guess. I'm not one of the people who put up pages and manage the database, so there's a chance they'll find this, I tried my hardest to hide this as best as I could. I hid this here because I knew no one else would listen or bother to hear it.

I was one of those E.R.C. members who was discharged with the conclusion that everything was fine.

It wasn't.

Now more of these things are showing up more and more and to what end?

How long until they slow down or disappear altogether.

I fear that simply existing within this reality is causing it to shift and change to sustain off of us in some way.

Why else would they suddenly just show up and be perfectly tailored to work off of our emotions.

If the variant I encountered is slowly showing up more and more, who's to say more wont come down the line in the near future.

I don't want to see this future.

These will be my last words, and I don't want them to be forgotten.

Away from home

Away from my family.
