“Ashes, ashes, we all fall down...”

Alice Gomme, 1898

I...I have had a vision! A vision from God himself! He told me to create the Children of Ash by combining entities with dust, that way he would free me from this hellish place! I will start work immediately.

TEST LOG 1: Deceased Clump
First attempt of creating the Children of Ash has failed. The combination process simply transferred all the ash into the body of the Clump. Note to self: clean the lab later.

TEST LOG 5: Deceased Faceling
Fifth attempt failed, the Faceling turned to dust. Perhaps we need to use live subjects...?

TEST LOG 8: Live Deathmoths
Success! The Deathmoths turned into ash and still lived. They were fragile, though. One flap of their wings and poof! Gone.

TEST LOG ???: Human Testing
Critical success. The wanderer is still alive and can walk around! I will share my findings with everyone! This could be a breakthrough, immune to fire, poison, and even gunshots! Though they'd probably be weak to water. Hmm, I didn't think this through.

The test subjects have broken out. I don't know how, but they did. The one thing I don't understand is why they're so mad at me. I was trying to help them! I am currently hiding under a desk; I should be safe until they leave. Damn things expelling dust and ash everywhere!

This notebook was found beside the deceased body of an unknown man on Level 11. Autopsy reports show that he dies from third-degree burns present all over his body. The M.E.G. believe that this marked the beginning of what would become the Cinis Infantes.

Ash Baby

Entity 51, otherwise known as Cinis Infantes (sing. Cinis Infantem) are entities which resemble a human newborn baby; however, one major difference is that they are entirely made out of ash and dust. These entities are unique as although they are fragile, they have a variety of different defense mechanisms to protect themselves. Cinis Infantes can be seen rarely wandering around almost any level, however they avoid levels with moderate to high amounts of water or other liquids present, due to the fact that they would dissolve in the liquid and die, though they are immune to other threats such as fire and guns.

Cinis Infantes tend to live on their own, however have been seen gathering in groups occasionally to feast on other deceased entities or wanderers. It is unknown whether they require water to survive, but it is highly unlikely due to the fact that it is their weakness. When feeding, Cinis Infantes will burn the body of the entity or wanderer to a crisp similar to the cremation process, leaving only ashes and assimilate them into itself. They are usually around the size of a young infant but have been seen to grow as big as a bed.

Additionally, these entities have been seen to use the dust and grime from particularly dirty areas to further increase their size. If wanderers notice an unusually clean space where it was originally filthy, they are advised to contact M.E.G. officials as there may be a Cinis Infantes infestation in that area. These entities are highly invasive, and are known to hunt and consume almost all other entities.

Defensive and Offensive Capabilities[]

To defend and hunt prey, Cinis Infantes have developed numerous abilities to assist them.

Fire-starting
Cinis Infantes are able to start fires using flint located in their hands, and their immunity to fire prevents them from burning themselves. Typically, they use this to cremate dead bodies for assimilation.

High-pitched screaming
Cinis Infantes have the ability to scream at extremely high frequencies, such that the eardrums of anyone who would harm them would have a temporary loss of hearing. This causes disorientation and gives the Cinis Infantem a chance to fight back.

Smokescreen
Cinis Infantes can cause the uppermost layer ash and dust which makes up their body to be violently expelled outwards, causing a cloud of dust to spread over a wide area. When this dust is inhaled, it causes permanent respiratory problems, such as shortness of breath and wheezing. When this dust enters any eyes, it causes temporary blindness for up to five hours if not washed out.

Hulking Cinis[]

Hulking Cinis is the name given to the subspecies of Cinis Infantes. They are similar to the original, however they have the appearance of extreme musculature and the strength as well. These Cinis are known to cause chaos wherever they go, but will typically overexert themselves to the point of collapse, at which point they will die.

Hulking Cinis are extremely dangerous, as they are immune to water-based attacks, unlike the main species. Additionally, they are able to lift objects such as trucks and lampposts, hurling them at their prey. It is advised never to go within vicinity of a Hulking Cinis as they have excellent hearing and sight.

Behaviors[]

Cinis Infantes are highly territorial entities, attacking anything and everything which enters their home. Typically, the nest of a Cinis Infantem is built in dark, dry and cool places such as closets or cupboards. A Cinis Infantem nest has an extreme amount of dust, and all nests should be avoided due to their danger. Cinis Infantem live alone, but if one has made its nest more will be nearby.

Biology[]

Studying the biology of a Cinis Infantum is extremely difficult as they collapse into a pile of ash and dust when deceased. However, from this it can be concluded that they are comprised entirely out of dust, and do not have any organs. These entities reproduce similar to cells, where they split in half and both halves form new Cinis Infantes. Interestingly, Cinis Infantes have been seen to be resistant to Liquid Pain, though the reason is unknown.

Cinis Infantes also possess small chunks of flint within the palms of their hands, which they utilise to start fires and slice at the legs of their prey to immobilise them. Not much else is known about their unique biology.

Weaknesses and Resistances[]

To assist any wanderers who read this article, a comprehensive list of weaknesses and resistances will be provided.

Weaknesses

  • Water, they dissolve in it.
  • Being crushed.
  • Being sucked up into an item such as a vacuum or vent.
  • Explosions.

Resistances

  • Liquid Pain.
  • Fire.
  • Gunshots.
  • Poisonous gases such as carbon monoxide.
  • Blunt and sharp objects that can sever them into two.

It is encouraged to report any more weaknesses or resistances to help other wanderers in need.

Dos and Don'ts[]

Do:

  • Avoid dark and dry areas.
  • Use water to kill them if they get too close.
  • Keep to well-ventilated areas if chased by one.

Don't:

  • Do not go near Cinis Infantes nests.
  • Try to cut them in half. This will make the situation worse.
  • Provoke any Cinis Infantem.

URGENT NOTICE:
Recently, people have been reporting other entities that are made out of ash, such as Hounds and Clumps. Cinis Infantes may actually be a disease which infects all living beings, however this is unconfirmed. Due to this, it is extremely unadvised to interact with any entities which appear to be made of ash and dust.
