I-Description

A backpack used as a lure by Entity 53

Backpack on Grass

False Grass is a rare entity in The Backrooms. It appears to be a serpentine being that lacks eyes, ears, or a nose. False Grass has no scales and its skin is covered in grass-like formations. False Grass have flat faces that mostly contain their mouths, similar to a worm from The Frontrooms. Their jaws have a small hole for a tongue-like structure that hooks onto benign objects in an attempt to lure prey. When disguised, they typically resemble flat patches of grass.

False Grass typically inhabit outdoor levels that do not contain frequent large elevation shifts such as cliffs or hills. False Grass can usually only live on levels with permeable ground that is stable for several meters. False Grass prefers relatively flat levels with high levels of debris. This means that they are very rarely found in undiscovered levels. False Grass usually lives in areas with high amounts of entities and or humans.

False Grass is highly predatory. They use a combination of trap hunting and lure hunting. Commonly, they lure Wanderers into touching their lures or just walking onto their mouths. If hunting entities that do not have any use for items, they typically just wait for them to either investigate the lure or just accidentally wander onto them. False Grass do not appear to have any favored prey, indiscriminately devouring wanderers and entities alike. They do not appear to be extremely intelligent. Being eaten by one of these entities almost certainly will result in death but it is possible to kill the entity with the proper equipment.

II-Behavior

False Grass will usually burrow at a depth of between 5-20 meters undergrown. They will then tilt their heads upwards so that their mouth is level with the surface of the ground. False Grass burrows are usually somewhat curved and end in a waste pit about 10 meters in diameter and 5 meters tall. They will move to new locations, usually across levels when they have exhausted a food source. This can make them extremely dangerous as areas completely devoid of entities can suddenly have a fatal entity. However, they do not appear to be very intelligent and as such they can be easily defeated with the proper equipment. False Grass will attack large groups of wanderers or in the vicinity of many wanderers with no regard.

Upon finding a food source and constructing a burrow, False Grass instances will begin to extend their tongues. These tongues will stretch and locate a nearby piece of debris. Usually, the biggest piece of debris will be used as a lure. On average, Lures will never be larger than 80 centimeters in any dimension and weight more than 15 kilograms unless no other lure is present. False Grass are known to bring lures that attract large amounts of prey on their migration. After successfully setting up their lures, they will typically cease all unnecessary movement. This means that muscles will only fire when completing bodily functions such as breathing or circulating blood. False Grass will also move if threatened or when actively consuming prey.

False Grass entities usually attack when eating. This means swallowing and digesting victims. Although this method of attack is not instantly fatal, it typically results in death. In rare cases, False Grass will attack for self-preservation instead of hunting. Usually, they can only shift around in an attempt to shove threats away but can sometimes fully exit their burrows. False Grass outside of their burrows are if anything even more dangerous due to their new-found maneuverability. They usually will attempt to eat smaller biological threats but will also occasionally attempt to crush threats. Much like when hunting, False Grass will indiscriminately attack both entities and wanderers.

Interestingly, when removed from their burrows and given extreme injuries or exposed to obviously superior threats, False Grass will actively attempt to run away. Due to the fact that they do not have protective skin, they can easily be damaged by bullets, blunt force, blades, and explosions. It is possible to cause severe internal damage via blunt force or explosives while within the stomach of a False Grass instance. One can also throw an explosive into the open maw of an instance. The only way to survive being swallowed by the entity is to make use of equipment to grabble outside of the instance's jaws.

III-Biology

False Grass are large serpentine entities usually around 30 meters long and 3 meters in diameter. (98.5 and 10 feet respectively.) They bear a resemblance to worms commonly found in The Frontrooms False Grass have grey skin which is heard to see under a large amount of grass like structures raging in 2-4 meters in length. These grass structures will adapt to the color of grass in the level which gives them the appearance of large serpents made of grass when removed from their burrow. False Grass have no eyes, ears, or a nose, with them only being able to sense the world around them with taste and touch. False Grass have a variety of organs including a heart, lungs, kidneys, and an incredibly small brain. Several other organs have been identified but their purpose is undetermined as they were heavily damaged by the Greek Fire that killed it.

False Grass have dark purple tongue structures used to attach lures. They have hooked tips and are quite slippery and are flexible. False Grass have wide jaws that will open when pressure greater than 10 kilograms is emitted on them. It is unknown if this is a reflex or a natural quirk of the jaws. The jaws have 3 parts and open inwards to prevent prey from being pushed off. The oral cavity is in a funnel shape and the mouth lacks teeth. At the end of the mouth is the esophagus which will push victims into the stomach. Wanderers will perish 1-2 hours after being eaten. Digestive possesses complete in 60-70 hours after consumption, at which point any remaining waste is defecated. False Grass fecal matter contains bone fragments and pieces of various entities and wanderers.

IV-Discovery

False Grass were first documented not long after the discovery of Level ███ on 26/3/1994. They were discovered as the first entity on the previously entity devoid Level. They primarily were found around the Backrooms Pioneer base on Level ███. They eventually wiped out all settlements on Level ███. Since then, the level has been purged of all entities but exists in a damaged state. Below is an attached journal from one of the survivors and first discoverers of Level ███. Irrelevant entries purged.

Entry 1: We finally managed to escape that damned hotel. One of the guys had an anxiety attack and we found some kind of glass door while trying to get them out of the hallways. It led to this weird forest with flat grass. I can't really fully describe it as we settled in a hollow pretty quickly. It's day, I don't know if there's a day night cycle. The level seems temperate, and I haven't seen any entities. It has lakes of Almond Water and high amounts of wood. I feel pretty comfortable here, it reminds me of my grandparent's house. I might stay here if it's as safe as it seems. The guys are searching around for any information on this level.

Entry 2: It turns out this is not a documented level. Never actually thought I would be someone who would discover a level! We found some structures and food trees so a sustainable community on this level may be possible. No entities have been discovered so I guess this level's most dangerous feature is the lakes. M.E.G. heard about our situation and sent a few of their guys to research. They designated this one Level ███. Survival classification is pending as we're still discovering stuff, but most people are saying it'll end up 0E. We still haven't actually discovered an exit, but this isn't the worst level to be stuck on.

Entry 19: We finally got the base fully set up. It's a cozy little place. Several of the people here joked that it reminded them of Summercamp in the woods. A bunch of people came in here from the tree entrance. A few of them were quite beat up but we were able to help them, and the worst injury was a broken leg. We have 83 people now and I've heard there's talk by the Backroom Pioneers to make this an official base. Many of the newcomers like it here and it feels like my new home. Christmas is in a few days, and we've already put up some decoration. We're planning to do a gift exchange, and I can't wait!

12/19/1993

Entry 35: We may have a small problem, one of the more adventurous guys vanished. This happens from time to time of course, usually we find them washed up on a lakeshore half-drowned. But he's been gone for 2 days. Some of the guys say he ran off into the woods to find his own little corner of the backrooms. Most the people who know him say that he wouldn't do it and honestly, I agree. The general consensus is that he accidentally used an undocumented exit into a level that's dangerous or has no wi-fi. The whole base is talking about him, and his disappearance has killed morale. Hopefully he'll turn up soon.

22/3/1994

Entry 36: Holy shit... a few more people have gone missing, but we think we know what happened to them. A friend of mine was out foraging with a few others when one of them saw a hat that one of the people on base had lost. He went to investigate and... the ground just swallowed him whole. Another guy tried to help him, but he almost fell in too. My friend says they could have sworn that ground was completely safe a few days earlier. Some people went back later and threw a log onto the area. It opened and they said it was a giant mouth... I just hope it's the only one and we can get rid of it soon.

26/3/1994

Entry 38: The disappearances haven't stopped. Even after we killed the one with Greek Fire. We know there are more of them now. Everyone is required to wear a tracker when leaving base so if we get killed, they at least know where the one who killed us is. We're not supposed to touch lone objects and many guys have stopped walking in clearings. This place used to be a paradise but now it's hell because of these... things. The guys up top are considering sending a task force to kill these things. A fifth of us are dead now... I hope it's not too late.

2/4/1994

Entry 41: The higherups finally gave an order to evacuate, even though a third of the survivors had already done so. One of those damned things decided to make its home right off one of the main paths. Nearly killed me but luckily, I was carrying a climbing rope in case something like this happened, and one of the witnesses pulled me to safety. That's probably why we were told to evacuate. It's one thing to have dangerous entities around your base, it's another to have them inside your base. It came to late I think though. Half the people here were dead by then and the base was in disarray. I pray that I nor anybody else in the backrooms has to encounter one of those things. I lost my home to them, and it kind of feels like I lost a part of myself too. I don't want to go back now but I must for the sake of those lost. I'm going to give this to some M.E.G. guys I met on Level 10. I have no use for it anymore and it will remind me of pain.
