I was walking through Level 0.1, nervously trying not to alert the many entities I heard were here. Suddenly, I heard a sound—but a quick glance around revealed I was alone.
Looking up, I watched with horror as the ceiling split apart.

Aranea Membri, also known as Spider Legs, are a hostile entity inhabiting the Backrooms. They are distinguished by oftentimes taking residence in the ceilings of levels they inhabit, utilizing it as a method of ambushing prey.
Description[]
Two Aranea Membri inside the roof of a level.
Aranea Membri are large spider-like entities, attaining a quadrupedal stance with several sharp, featureless limbs. Aranea Membri bear faces resembling what appears to be some sort of carnivoran skull. Although their hostility and extreme speed make them difficult to observe closely, current estimates and autopsies put their average height at around seven feet 8 (21 decimetres) and their length at around eight feet (24 decimetres). The entity’s black skin appears to be made of a solidified version of Niralola Black, allowing them to melt or disappear into dark areas. In addition, as the entity walks, it makes a loud metallic clanking sound. Although the origin of this is unknown, it is extremely helpful for wanderers seeking to avoid these entities.
These entities are highly predatory and are known to pursue and attack humans on sight. As such, they should be avoided whenever possible.
Behavior[]
An Aranea Membri descending from the ceiling of an unknown level.
Aranea Membri seem to nest in empty, dark spaces above the roofs of many levels within the Backrooms, waiting for other entities or humans to approach their location (the entity’s so-called stalking stage). How it knows the approach of other beings is unknown, but it is currently believed that it uses a highly developed sense of hearing to do so. Once prey is nearby, it opens up a hole in the ceiling and emerges to pursue its prey.
After the entity leaves its hole in the ceiling, it then enters what is labeled as its hunting stage. Upon finding its prey (often immediately after emerging), the Aranea Membri will begin a pursuit, attempting to trample wanderers under its limbs. When hunting, Aranea Membri can reach speeds of up to 50 mph when hunting, which it uses to its advantage (albeit it is only able to reach these speeds within long, straight hallways). Aranea Membri can also use their momentum to knock over obstacles, break down walls, or instantly crush their target. After a successful hunt, these entities will drag their victim through the hole from which they emerged and will disappear from view into the darkness.
These entities appear to have a lowered intelligence, as they often forget about prey if it eludes them for long enough.
Despite their otherworldly appearance, Aranea Membri are ultimately nothing more than wild animals and are susceptible to mortal wounds and sickness the same as any other creature. Carefully planned traps and mundane weaponry are enough to kill one of them, as demonstrated by anonymous researchers (view footage). Their high speeds are indeed a danger, but wanderers can easily make use of sharp turns to force the entity to slow considerably, and their low intelligence makes it a near certainty that an Aranea Membri will abandon its hunt of a wanderer if it goes on for long enough.
Biology[]
The entity's limbs and body all appear to have a rubber-like appearance and feel to them. Autopsies have revealed that the entity does not appear to have many vital internal organs, and research is still being conducted on how this is possible.
The entity's head and face appear to be made out of bone, forming what resembles a bare skull. The entity does not have a tongue or any other parts of the body within its mouth besides a full set of teeth. Aranea Membri do not appear to have eyes but can still see. Although the entity is relatively unintelligent compared to humans and other entities, they do have a relatively large brain.
The age and sex of an Aranea Membri can be determined by looking at its face. Male Aranea Membri have small antlers protruding from their heads, whereas females do not, similar to deer in the Frontrooms. In addition, studies suggest that as the entity ages, its teeth begin to fall out. However, it is currently unknown what the entity’s average lifespan is. Due to unknown reasons, female Aranea Membris appear to be more common than male Aranea Membris, as most entity 62 attack reports have been from Aranea Membris without antlers.
Discovery[]
Little is known about the entity‘s discovery. Journals and notes describing what appear to be Aranea Membri have appeared from as far back as the early 19th century, but there are significant differences between the entity and the entity mentioned in such early records. It is possible that the records describe an ancestor of the Aranea Membri, and that it has evolved since then.
The first known footage of an Aranea Membri was recorded in April of 2022 FD.

A photograph of a Nuclear Membri. Photographer killed, found as pile of bones with patches of skin.
Nuclear Membri seem to be a subspecies of Aranea Membri exclusive to Level 630. Although it is unknown how they originated, the current theory is that they are a version of Aranea Membri corrupted by Nuclear Infection, which radiates off their bodies.
Nuclear Membri resemble Aranea Membri, but have a few key differences. The skin of Nuclear Membri appears to be tinted a radioactive green and looks as if it is coated in an odd liquid. Nuclear Membri only have three legs, and their heads seem as if they are heavily injured or wounded, as pieces of their faces are missing or damaged. The bone-like material that Nuclear Membri faces are made of is colored a toxic green instead of its normal bone white, and the entity’s eyes are neon red.
Nuclear Membri have the ability to sniff out their prey from over 100 feet away. Similar to the original Aranea Membri, they can reach up to 50 mph. As a result of Level 630’s layout, it is nearly impossible to escape them.
Unlike its original version, Nuclear Membri do not catch its prey by emerging from the ceiling. Instead, they burrow underground until they sniff out their prey; once they find a target, they will emerge and begin a pursuit. After they catch their prey, they will then hold their prey up to them and subject them to nuclear infection effectively killing them.
Little else is known about Nuclear Membri due to the toxicity of their habitat and the danger researching them poses.

An expedition was led to a currently unknown level, or at least that's what I'm being informed. While the level they explored has not been inserted into the database, that is not of our concern as of now.
A lone Entity 62 specimen was discovered within the level's overheard roof tiling, burrowing and hiding.
A non-lethal trap was set up within a hall near where the entity was burrowing, and the expedition team returned to home base to deliver the news.
The expedition team swiftly returned to the undocumented level to watch over the trap with a temporary base of operations.
I decided I should travel with them to make experiments on the specimen easier, if we caught it, of course.
Upon arrival, the creature was captured but sustained minimal injuries. I'm currently waiting for authorization to begin testing.
The Areneas are timid and interesting creatures, and I seem to be the only person here actually interested in them.
