Lights (scientific name Lumina damnationem) are an entity found only in Level 9.7 (not to be confused with Lighters or Foglighters).

Description & Behavior[]

Entity 85, better known as Lights, have two variants: Innocuous Lights & Aggresive Lights (similar to Entity 2). Both types of lights will vary in shape, colour and sizes, with their only identifying factors being the tints of their lights.

Aggressive Lights[]

Aggressive Lights (scientific name Lumina damnationem ), despite their name, are not naturally hostile to wanderers. Unlike their Window counterpart, Aggressive Lights are incapable of killing humans, but can cause intense pain for short periods of time. Aggressive Lights are characterized by their slight yellow tint. If one gets too close to an Aggressive Light (within ~30cm), the Aggressive Light will administer an electric shock in the direction of the wanderer in question; however, the wanderer can dodge this shock if they move quickly enough, as the shock lasts for less than a second. The pain level reported by wanderers matches with a voltage of 500V, and the current of an Aggressive Light's shock is estimated to be ~50A. This causes intense pain in the area affected. Additionally, the Aggressive Light will raise its brightness to roughly 5 megacandelas, only 2 less than that of a flashbang. Due to anomalous properties, only the wanderer being attacked will see this intensely bright light. It should be noted that the Aggressive Light will immediately reduce its brightness, and all other effects will immediately subside once the wanderer being attacked is at least 10 meters away, with no injuries or long-term effects sustained.

Innocuous Lights[]

Innocuous Lights (scientific name Lumina damnationem innocens) are entirely passive, but still show some signs of life. They are characterized by a white glow. Innocuous Lights will never attack a wanderer, but if one comes within ~30cm of an Innocuous Light, the light will increase its brightness based on how close the wanderer is, with the maximum brightness of an Innocuous Light being comparable to that of looking at a car headlight from 10m (32.81ft) away. If the wanderer is exceedingly close (~6 inches) to the Innocuous Light, it will begin to release a sound similar to that of a boiling kettle. It is believed that this sound may be a cry for help from the Innocuous Light, but there is no evidence to back this claim.

Innocuous Lights

It should be noted that street lights, lamps, and lanterns in Level 9.7 are NOT entities; Lights are limited to small sources of lights, often attached to gates, doors, fences, doorframes, etc. Due to the minute differences between Aggressive Lights and Innocuous Lights, it is advised that wanderers do not approach Lights of any kind.

Biology[]

Due to the somewhat hostile nature of Aggressive Lights, it is infeasible to run tests to observe the biology of the aforementioned entity; however, Innocuous Lights, being much more docile, are easier to document. All Innocuous Lights consist of a plastic/metal "body", and a light(s), acting as its "head(s)". It should be noted that as M.E.G. scientists were deconstructing an Innocuous Light, it released an ear-piercing whistling noise, a highly amplified version of the common "boiling kettle" noise. Upon taking the entity apart, a fleshy substance was discovered inside the "body", being somewhat comparable to human flesh. No organs or skeletal structures were visible. Within its "head", several eye-like organs were found, likely acting as its brain, and appearing to be the source of its light. Intriguingly, no matter how many times these eyes were sliced, the light continued to be emanated from the pupil, even when it was removed from the rest of the eye. It is unknown how this is possible. The sound of the whistling/boiling kettle noise appears to be caused by the constricting of the fleshy substance within the Innocuous Light. Using this information, experts can only assume that Aggressive Lights' anatomies are similar or identical.

Discovery[]

The discovery of Lights and their abilities came a few weeks after the discovery of Level 9.7, on September 30, 2017. A pair of wanderers, who shall remain anonymous, had accidentally entered Level 9.7 about 3 days after its initial discovery. They approached an Aggressive Light, attempting to take refuge in a well-lit area. However, once one of them got too close, they were electrically shocked and temporarily blinded by the Light. They went on to join the Back-Alley Wanderer's Society (B-AWS) two weeks later, where they shared the story of their encounter with the Aggressive Light. The B-AWS then conducted many more tests on Lights around the level, leading to the subsequent discovery of Innocuous Lights.

Do's and Don'ts[]

Do's:[]

  • Stay away from all Lights
  • Attempt to dodge the electric shock if attacked
  • Immediately vacate the area if you enter the vicinity of a Light

Don'ts[]

  • Approach a Light
