FILINGCABINET

Description[]

Filing Cabinets are hostile entities native to Level 1 that appear to be a moving filing cabinet, It is very rare to encounter one. Although their appearance is not exclusive to Level 1, such occurrences are infrequent elsewhere in the Backrooms. They exhibit an unpredictable wandering pattern within the level, actively seeking wanderers. Upon identifying a wanderer, a Filing Cabinet will initiate an attack, rapidly advancing to collide with the said wanderer at considerable speed. Evasion of the Filing Cabinet is considered top priority in event of attack. In certain instances, a Filing Cabinet may stay still to seem like an ordinary filing cabinet, though when a wanderer approaches, it will reveal its hostile nature. Recent findings by the M.E.G. suggest that the speed of a Filing Cabinet is influenced by the number of compartments it possesses, with fewer compartments correlating to a decreased speed and hostility.

Behavior[]

Filing Cabinets generally exhibit hostile behavior, except for the 2-compartment variant. Their vision appears to be limited to the side with compartments. The primary method of attack involves high-speed collision, resulting in severe injuries or fatalities, reminiscent of a car crash or other blunt-force trauma. Notably, the 2-compartment Filing Cabinets are not aggressive and instead display a passive or helpful demeanor. Interestingly, these passive variants can be tamed by placing almond water into one of their compartments. Once tamed, the Filing Cabinet will follow the wanderer who tamed it around, collecting useful items for them. Filing Cabinets are fast, but evasion is possible, and they can be wounded or killed if they collide with an object at high speed. Injuries to Filing Cabinets appear as dents, stuck drawers, or even pieces falling off.

RAMFILING

Discovery[]

The first encounter with this entity was reported when a wanderer exploring Level 1 was unexpectedly rammed by a Filing Cabinet. Although the wanderer survived, they sustained several injuries and received immediate medical attention.

One week later, wanderer Jonathan Waters discovered a 2-compartment Filing Cabinet. As news about the entity spread, it became apparent that limited research had been conducted, and the varying number of compartments determined the entity's level of danger. Initially unaware of this distinction, Waters encountered a 2-compartment Filing Cabinet, eventually discovering its passive nature due to its sluggish movement. Opening the compartment, he found supplies and placed a bottle of almond water inside to thank the entity. Surprisingly, the entity began following Waters, reinforcing the realization of its passive demeanor.

2COMPFILING

Appearance[]

The physical manifestation of a Filing Cabinet ranges from grey, black, to even white, typically adorned with 3-6 compartments. Occasionally, a distinctive hat or headgear may be observed atop these entities. The material the Filing Cabinets appear to be made from is metal, although plastic and stone Filing Cabinets have been observed. These filing cabinets exhibit a well-maintained appearance, resembling office filing cabinets with minor scratches. If the Filing Cabinet has been wounded, more dents and scrapes will appear. A dead Filing Cabinet is missing all of its drawers. The shapes of these entities vary, commonly appearing rectangular or square, with some rare instances of alternative shapes such as circles.

In certain scenarios, Filing Cabinets may present themselves in diverse designs. Observed designs include circles, squares, humanoid figures, and hexagons.

Biology[]

The Filing Cabinet appears to be a moving, wheeled filing cabinet from the Frontrooms, these entities contain various items within their compartments, which may include papers, scissors, non-functional phones, pens, pencils, and other work-related items. The motivation behind Filing Cabinet attacks lies in amusement rather than sustenance, as these entities do not experience hunger. Vulnerable to damage, they lack immortality. Neutralization of a Filing Cabinet can be achieved by removing one of its compartments, creating a sizable hole, or making a substantial dent on the Filing Cabinet. Remarkably, Filing Cabinets exhibit apparent insensitivity to pain and possess remarkable speed.

Variants[]

The 2-compartment variant represents the most slow and feeble incarnation of the Filing Cabinet. Their passive nature stems from their vulnerability, as their reduced speed renders them easily outpaced. Despite their passive disposition, they harbor work supplies within their compartments. Remarkably, these entities can be tamed by placing almond water into their compartments. Their affinity for almond water arises from its efficacy in repelling hostile entities.

The 3-compartment variant of the Filing Cabinet constitutes a slower and weaker iteration. Exhibiting a propensity for swift evasion, these filing cabinets rank as the most common type and are relatively easy to avoid.

Filing Cabinets with four compartments display noteworthy speed, yet their pursuit is outrunnable. These entities, possessing enhanced intelligence compared to their 3-compartment counterparts, prove more challenging to elude.

The speed of these Filing Cabinets surpasses their counterparts. While outrunnable by humans, their likelihood of noclipping into other levels is diminished. Displaying heightened intelligence compared to 4-compartment Filing Cabinets, losing them proves considerably more challenging, often resulting in depletion of one's energy reserves.

Encountering a 6-compartment Filing Cabinet equates to a highly dangerous situation, necessitating exceptional speed for survival. Although potential for evasion exists, these entities are highly intelligent. Redirecting them in a different direction ensures safety; however, survival without exceptional speed remains improbable.

Do's[]

  • During an encounter with Filing Cabinets, swift running proves an effective strategy.
  • Initiating an attack is only advisable when cornered by the Filing Cabinet, and even then, should be a last resort.
  • Employment of ranged weapons during an attack is a prudent approach.
  • Upon identifying a Filing Cabinet before being noticed, immediate distancing is recommended.
  • During an attack it is important to stay focused to the Filing Cabinet and try to get out of its way when it is about to collide with you.

Dont's[]

  • Attacking a Filing Cabinet should be reserved exclusively for situations of imminent danger.
  • Provoking a Filing Cabinet if it does not notice you is strongly discouraged.
  • Opening an inanimate grey Filing cabinet poses a substantial risk, as it may reveal itself as a hostile Filing Cabinet.
