It's quite a windy day on my block. It generally is at this time of year. The wind has almost blown my hat off multiple times, so I had to take it off and hold it in my left hand. Despite the weather, I can still see plenty of hounds walking. Wait. I just realized I still had to go over to the Fissures to pick up my dry cleaning. The dry cleaning (and everything else) there is the cheapest since everyone's dirt poor. Though the Fissures certainly aren't the best neighborhood in Level 11 to live in, it beats living in most backroom levels.
As Rex kept walking, he saw the state of the city deteriorate. The roads, the buildings, and the general layout all fit together.Eventually, he knew for sure that he was in the fissures.
There it is. The dry cleaners are among the other run-down buildings of the Fissures. After pulling out my translator, I asked him how much it would be.
"Bináy'ah"
Wow, ten! That's a third of what I'd be paying where I live. After paying, I noticed a middle school that appeared to be abandoned. In the three years I have lived on Level 11, I have never seen children going to this school. It seems quite odd, but I won't think anything of it.
Rex thought anything of it.
I haven't been able to get that school off my mind all night. I'll just be in and out and then back to my routine.
Rex arrived at the school and noticed that the gate surrounding the school was closed, unlike the other day. After climbing over it with but a mere ruffling of his clothes, he gave the front door's handle a pull. To his surprise, it opened right up.
The halls appear to be completely abandoned. I see lockers, classroom doors, and general debris.
Wait.
That's a hound running at me.
Shootshootshootshoot! What am I going to do?
I'm panicking. There's a hound running after me, and I can't defend myself against it. There's also a high-pitched humming sound coming from one of the lockers, accompanied by a green glow.
Rex finds a Pala hung up in the locker. He prepares to swing it at the hound, which is now a second away from murdering him.
I slash the sword through the hound and it cuts right through it, bones and all. Oddly enough, little to no blood comes out of it. When I swung the sword, the green light became a bit brighter for a minute. After walking back to where I entered, I found the door locked. I really want to get out of this level, so I'll see if the sword that so easily slices through a hound's skeleton can slice through a wall.
Rex breaks through the wall and gets back to the fissure of Level 11.
The elevator reads 45. My floor, finally. Did I leave my apartment door open? I don't think so. I don't think I kicked my lock in either, nor did I rob my apartment. I was almost killed by a hound and now my apartment has been robbed. This day couldn't get any worse.
The day could get any worse.
I took five steps into my apartment, seething with rage, wanting to take it out on something, when suddenly I tripped.
No way.
There is no way I'm here.
I've only heard stories about people going to this place.
After hearing the red alarm blaring in the abandoned hospital hall, he turned around to see the massive horde of entities.
They're going to be running from me.
Rex started sprinting, not away from the horde, but towards it. As the first hound lunged at him, he fell in two. Entities lunged at him and each member of the horde he brutally killed made them angrier, which made the green light shine stronger. Eventually, the red light of Level 3 was completely overpowered, and all that Rex could see was a bright green light and some blurs that he knew, in a blind rage, that he had to kill. Eventually, the last skin stealer was struck down and the alarm stopped sounding.
A photo taken by Rex of Level ! while wielding the Pala
They're all dead now. I can't see them in detail, but I can see their bodies as a bunch of blurs on the floor.
Where did the green light go?
Rex looked down at what was once his Pala to see it in pieces. The blade had lost its color and its power.
This isn't the same level; where am I?
Promised Land
Rex spent a week or so in the Promised Land before leaving through the exit door and escaping to the Frontrooms. He died on January 12, 2022, shortly after celebrating his second New Year since escaping the Backrooms in Osorno, Chile. There have been no reports of his sword, his apartment, or any of the entities he killed. The dry cleaner in the Fissures has reportedly relocated to an unknown spot on Level 11.
Rest In Peace
