Hopeless is a large empty room, measured approximately 7100 m². It consists of white concrete walls, which seems to be placed very randomly. The walls have shapes carved onto them, including but not limited to circles, squares and triangles. The purpose of these are unknown. Hopeless is very dark, and the sky is pitch black. The floor is invisible, and the walls slowly fade into darkness under it. Despite these, there is little light in the room. The light source is unknown.

Hazards

There are no entities in Hopeless, but a lot of non-entity hazards.

Physical hazards

The invisible floor of Hopeless is heavily unstable. Every 15 minutes, there is a 2% chance that you’ll just fall through the floor with no reason at all. The fate of the people who encountered this is unknown. Sometimes, the gravity in the level will become so high that it crushes your body at an atomic level in a few minutes.

Mental Hazards

The more you stay in the level, the more you become nyctophobic (fear of the dark), causing you to become very anxious. If you don’t figure out how to get out of the level within 23 hours, you will lose all your hope at an alarming rate.

There should be more undocumented hazards in the level, as some disturbing-looking bodies have been found in Hopeless. For example, a wanderer’s body was found in the level, where all joints inside them are broken and twisted.

Colonies and Outposts

Due to the nature of this level, colonies and outposts are unable to be established.

Entrances and Exits

Entrances

  • Lose 50% of your hope an hour into the backrooms.
  • If you have brought a phone with you, attempt to no-clip when your phone is at 1% battery and powered off.

Exits

  • Restore your hope. You will be teleported back to the exact level and place where you started, with the voice of a man saying things like “You were given another chance.” “Don’t mess up this time.”
  • If you entered the level by the phone method, no-clip through one of the shapes on the walls to enter Level ML.
