Entity Number: 51
Habitats: Any level containing Smilers.
Description
Infants are the result of attempting to touch, break, cook, or otherwise interact with or harm Smiler eggs. The eggs will hatch prematurely, revealing a small creature with spindly limbs and a Smiler's face. For unknown reasons, Infants are much more aggressive than typical Smilers. It has been speculated that the reason for this may be that Wanderers are their source of food, needed for them to complete a sort of inferior incubation if prematurely hatched. However, this is unconfirmed.
Infants, unlike their mature counterparts, do not tend to hide in the dark, nor do they become distracted by lights. Instead, they relentlessly chase their prey until either killing or being killed. During this chase, Infants move in a jerky, though fairly quick motion. They are not particularly strong, but their sharp teeth make up for their immature muscles. Once an infant catches its prey, it will use its teeth to tear flesh from bone in a gruesome and frenzied fashion. They often leave corpses lying on the ground in a pool of blood, eating only meat near the chest cavity.
After a sufficient number of kills, Infants will create a sort of cocoon structure and retreat into it to complete their incubation and transform into a Smiler.
Discovery
It is unknown who initially discovered Infants. However, according to Backrooms folklore, they were discovered when someone decided to attempt to cook and eat a Smiler's egg. This tale is often told, with varying degrees of vividity, as a cautionary tale, the moral being that nothing in the Backrooms will work as you expect.
