Description

General depiction of the entity.

The King of Normality is a powerful enigmatic entity with contradicting nature. For some, he is seen as a great hero. For others, he is a sly trickster. For most, he's nothing but an ordinary person. There are conflicting accounts regarding both the appearance and personality of the entity, suggesting that he never stays the same, or is so good at influencing others to the point that most would never be suspicious of his presence, despite the fact that he's a dangerously unpredictable entity.

On most occasions, the King of Normality appears as an ordinary wanderer dressed in a black suit with a red tie and fedora. His face and general physique seems to shift around, though his attire always remains the same. His true form, however, is revealed when sheds the disguise. Though still humanoid, his entire body is pitch black with glowing white cracks. Instead of facial feature, the entity only has one eye and a mouth in grinning expression similar that of a Smiler, albeit less demonic and more chaotic with all the cracks spreading. The King of Normality would only show his true form when the situation forces him to reveal himself.

King of Normality is vastly powerful, as he has displayed the ability to travel between levels, and is apparently a traveler between worlds. He claims to go through the boundaries of reality, including the Frontrooms and the Great Beyond. Apparently, he can stabilize whatever dimension that he resides in, but typically limits himself to a single level, or at least a portion of said level. Wanderers often stumble upon him in dangerous levels, as his residence is easily recognizable due to its contrast against the rest of the place. If you find yourself in a room that is unusually normal to the point of impossibility, then it is likely a domain of the king. His room often contains other wanderers and "normalized" entities that are docile under his power, similar to the influence of the Snackrooms. This ability may not be visible when he's in a safe level, but he can turn it on anytime whenever he deemed fit, or whenever the situation call for normalcy. Due to this, the king often be involved in chaotic conflict as a mediator and stabilizer, keeping the level in balance.

Another ability of the entity is creation of weapons, and it is unknown how he achieves this feat. His signature weapon is a spear which he calls the "Abnormal Slasher", and he uses it to slice entities who least expect it. He is said to slay entities across the Backrooms with this, and he was spotted in Level ! while committing the act. Apparently, he's also the one who defeated Castus and Collosus in level e, for reasons yet unknown.

He also has mysterious jars of "Normality" which keep him stable, but if you steal one, he'll go berserk and will go on a killing spree, no matter how "normal" he is. The "Normality" substance is still being tested, as it may have anomalous properties.

Behaviors

The King of Normality is a mystery at best, as whatever we learned from him might be untrue due to his tendency to lie. The fact that he often disguises himself might suggest that he's not as normal as he seems, and is actually a tormented, insane individual. Despite the façade of normalcy, the entity is not a manipulator, and it's implied that he simply seek a peaceful, ordinary life. This suggest that the entity wish to be a simple wanderer, or perhaps there's a more sinister motivation behind the action.

How he acts depends on his given form. When disguised as a wanderer, he's a nice and friendly, even chill and casual person. The more his "normalcy" is removed, the more "abnormal" he becomes, to the point of violently crazy and downright disturbing. Regardless, he seems to hold certain moral values as he has befriended many wanderers and even entities for some sort of noble, grand goal. He shows a great desire to take control of the Backrooms and make the entities extinct, making him quite of a legend across many levels.

He is very deceptive however, always obscuring his true nature and origins with lies upon lies. Yet there still remain minor grains of truth sprinkled in, to create further confusion. He would always lie when asked about his identity or his past, although there might be some truth to his confessions. When asked about his parents, he claimed to have had none, supposedly being his "own parent", but this has been confirmed to be a lie. He says he has a very dark history. He was once a human with facial problems, everybody laughed at him, and he had no home. One day he noclipped into the Backrooms, he saw the horrors wanderers had to face and decided to take matters to his own hands. He drank some chemicals and became what he is now. Another theory suggests that he was actually an ordinary wanderer, that then was corrupted by the void and become the entity that he is now.

Regardless of whether he lied or told the truth, it is strongly apparent that he wishes to be normal, so he pretends to be a wanderer to hide away his madness. Still, he has feelings too, and he wants others to treat him like he's normal. So treat him with respect, or else he will attack you no matter where you are.

Biology

His biology still remains a mystery, but he states that he doesn't need anything to eat or drink. In his human form, he acts like a wanderer he has all things a human need to live; heart, intestines, gall bladder, etc. His true form doesn't seems to be anything biological, and might not even physical anymore. He states that he was created by "pure energy", but this however, is probably a lie.

Relation to entities

Usually, he will attack any entity that provokes him and does not attack an entity when he sees one. He will not hesitate to attack whenever an entity harms a wanderer. Here is our analysis of his behavior to different entities, based on our observations.

  • Facelings: Treats them the same as the wanderers, friendly and overprotective.
  • Hounds: He treats them like garden pests and likes killing them.
  • Smilers: He dislikes them, and will not hesitate to kill them since they creep him out.
  • Deathmoths: He considers them nothing but like a regular fly to a human.
  • Skin-Stealers: He has a very big sense of hatred towards them and has killed over 2000 skin-stealers.

  • Keymaster: He likes talking to him and treats him as a best friend. They tend to travel to many parts of The Backrooms together, helping each-other rescue wanderers as comrades.
  • Storyteller: Same as Keymaster.
  • Crimson Wanderer: His actual best friend, he likes crimson very much.
  • Partygoers: He'll immediately go start a massacre.
  • Gardener: He is neutral towards the gardener as they have just met.
  • Redacted Watcher: He does not like him, as he is only time and space, he said the redacted watcher is too "abnormal".

Other entities he'll try to destroy are Clumps, Windows, Clawlings, Death Rats and Death Ostriches.

Further research would be added later.
