Description
Official flag of Isle Elpis as of it's founding in 1953
Level -500, also referred to as Isle Elpis by its inhabitants, does appear to be a beach upon entry. On the contrary, instead of sand, this beach does rather consist of boulders & stones. This beach is a section of an island, which does make up the solid terrain on this level. This island appears to be circular, with boulders, rocks, and stones covering the entire area. Thus meaning that there is no soil, grass, or other vegetation present on the island, with exceptions being close by the water. This level does always have high, but non-lethal windspeeds, hence it is advised to be cautious when remaining on here. Isle Elpis is presumed to have a surface area of approximately 3028000±1000m². (32590000±10750ft²).
Level -500 has a day-night cycle that perfectly corresponds to Earth's cycle, however no matter how low the sun goes, the level will never become darker than the brightness which can be seen at late-dusk. Even at times comparable to 12 a.m. in The Frontrooms. This makes it hard to sleep upon entering the level. Though, it is relatively easy to adapt to the nature of this level. Due to the continuous growth of human population, individuals often travel to other levels and safely return to this level for multiple resources for both building, and survival purposes, making it a safe place to stay under normal circumstances. Wi-Fi is present On Isle Elpis, but the connection is rather weak.

Origin of the Names
In the Ancient Greek mythology, Elpis is the spirit of both hope and suffering, However, it is not a god. While the island's name is Isle Elpis, two other pronunciations have been widely accepted by it's inhabitants. These names being "Elpis Island" and "Island of Elpis". On Isle Elpis, there lies a lowrise city with a comparatively applicable name, which is called: "Elpis City". Structures within this city are predominantly made out of wood, which is transported via other levels to this level. Elpis City is made up numerous layers, each of which is in a circle around the other, with the layer in the center being located in the middle of the island.
Construction of Layers
Voyager's Centre
The name of the primary layer, consisting out of the two buildings may be found in the exact center of the island is called "Centrum" and is the only layer which does have a "Simple" name. These buildings being the most important and influential structures present in Level -500. One of these buildings has it's independent nickname, thought to be "Voyager's Centre". This building has with eight storeys and is therefor the highest building in the entire city. It serves as a temporary refuge for wanderers, trading post, and housing facility for third-party colonies and outposts. The town hall is located on the other side of this structure. The ministry conducts its operations in this building. The town hall is usually open to the public and accessible to Elpis residents. Other wanderers may enter the building, but only with the request and agreement of a majority of the city's villagers or individuals who work within the ministry. The town hall is five storeys high and just a little wider than the Voyager's Centre.
High-end two-story residences may be located in a circle around these structures. This layer is usually referred to as "Vitae spatium". Each of these circles is meant to be a street despite the lack of a name for these streets. These streets are organized in five rings before another layer, forming a circular configuration which is then subsequently followed by all remaining layers, making every layer be in a neat, circular around each other. This is the Second-most populated area for residence.
Bene esse
Around Vitae spatium, there is a more "commercial" layer known as "Bene esse." This area consists out of retail malls, fitness clubs, a restaurant, a hospital, and even a school that teaches people about subjects that are also typically found in The Frontrooms. This layer is mainly used for shopping and entertainment purposes
Locus Manere
The layer that surrounds Bene esse is known as "Locus manere," and it consists of four whole tiers of single-story residential areas which again are divided into streets. These dwellings are designed to hold a large number of people in a little amount of space. Despite their small size, these structures are recognized to be of the highest quality of any buildings elsewhere in the city. And, while they may not be as opulent as the structures near the center, they are unquestionably the most comfortable places to stay for extended periods of time. Hence they are populair by wanderers which have recently decided to become an inhabitant of this city.
Regio Pro Officiis
Locus manere is in turn surrounded by the layer known as "Regio pro officiis". This region is mostly, if not entirely, occupied by office buildings. Many of these are low-rising, elongated, and circular form that is incomplete or partial. Multiple Wi-Fi strengtheners are installed within these structures, providing faster internet connections when working on devices. This is a good spot to stay if individuals do want to communicate to people which reside in Other Levels in The Backrooms or even The Frontrooms as a whole. regio pro officiis is also used as a site where resources get made and constructions get assembled.
In Ore Dumuum
On the outskirts of Regio pro officiis, there is a location known as "In ore domuum." This is the least populated stratum and consists of a single layer of medium-quality dual-story dwellings. It is still a pleasant location to stay. The majority of this Layer is empty area and is projected to be under development of new locations for Elpis city residents to settle. For the time being, there is only one circular street.
Unusual Capabilities
Retrieved footage of the beach in Level -500, the cameraman unfortunately slipped into the water. Later confirmed to have died shortly after recording this video.
Level -500 does pose a threat. When one comes into intimate contact with the water contained within it. If the individual touches water when near to the breach, he or she will invariably slide and fall into the water. Alternatively, one may jump into the sea, from which the consequences will remain the same. Level -500 has a negative effect on sentient creatures, including humans. It forces one's swimming ability to immediately cease upon entering the level. One-hundred percent of those who came into contact with the water in the sea died in some form. It is also impossible to get back to land after landing in the water, thus attempting to climb back up the rocks or assisting yourself - or someone else - has proven to have no use. In a nutshell, if someone approaches too close to the water and touches a drop (whether accidentally or purposely), they will always fall into the sea. With a chance of drowning of one-hundred percent certain.
