Level -92 is the 92nd negative level of the Backrooms.

Description

This picture, taken by wanderer B.B., shows the road in Level -92 in its favorable state.

Level -92 is an 'empty' stretch of an interstate highway of undetermined length. This highway consists of several road signs for exits leading to some but not all the roads in The Backrooms. Level -92 is a spatial anomaly that consists of lush green, rolling hills, sparse trees and bushes, and evenly paved roads. This place is a constant state of twilight, with the sun either rising or setting over the horizon. The temperature is typically ambient. These favorable conditions will be maintained as long as the 'Driver' does the following:

  • Obey the traffic laws according to their place of origin in The Frontrooms.
  • Not get distracted while driving.
  • Going to sleep while driving. If sleep is necessary for you and your passengers (assuming you have them) pullover. Be aware that pulling over to sleep puts you (and your passengers) at risk of disappearing under mysterious circumstances.
  • Exiting the vehicle for any reason. You will see and pass other vehicles on the road. It is ill-advised to exit the vehicle for any reason that includes the following:
    • Checking any abandoned vehicles for supplies.
    • Switching vehicles.
    • Interacting with other drivers on the road. If you approach a vehicle and someone gets out of their vehicle and attempts to flag you down, ignore them. If they step out in front of your vehicle in an attempt to stop you, drive around them or run them over. You do not know their intentions. You cannot confirm their identity. They do not look human enough.
    • Retrieving your driver or other passengers who have exited the vehicle. Do your best to get them to come back without leaving the vehicle or you will be claimed by the level. If you are a passenger not skilled enough to take over driving, accept the inevitable.
  • Stopping the vehicle for an extended period of time. This attracts entities and it not known how long your vehicle needs to be stopped to attract entities.
  • Resisting highway hypnosis (which contributes to the four behaviors in the above bullets.)

Engaging in any of the five behaviors will result in the road and the surrounding environment converting into an increasingly dangerous environment and trigger hallucinations.

Highway Hypnosis

Level -92 causes drivers of this road to enter a trance-like state for an undetermined period. It is not known what causes this condition. Consuming neon water reduces the frequency and duration of a highway hypnosis state but does not prevent it. Consuming almond water has no effect. Drivers in the state of highway hypnosis will break traffic laws, get distracted, fall asleep, stop their vehicle, and/or exit their vehicle. They also have been known to attack passengers if they have any. They will have no memory of doing these behaviors. Passengers are encouraged to help keep the driver focused, alert, and present. Driving with passengers reduces the duration, frequency, and intensity of highway hypnosis. Passengers can help the driver 'snap' out of it. The environment changes for the worse every time the driver enters a trance.

Drivers and Passengers

Drivers

You will appear on this road driving in a random vehicle you are usually comfortable driving. You will either be commuting alone or with human or human-like passengers. Whether or not you will have passengers depends on the vehicle you are operating. You are also responsible for the safety of your passengers. You are vulnerable to the effects of highway hypnosis.

Passengers

You will appear on this road riding in a random vehicle you are usually comfortable riding in if you are an unlicensed driver. You will always be riding with someone, but they may not necessarily be human. Your safety is dependent on the individual driving you. You are immune to the effects of highway hypnosis as long as you do not attempt to drive. You are in danger if your driver is under the influence. You are not immune to any environmental changes that might occur due to your driver being under the influence.

Driving advisory
Being a licensed driver does not guarantee that you will be behind the wheel. It does help if more than one driver appears in a vehicle, as being able to switch off with someone increases your survival at this level.
Switching between drivers does not stop the effects for the previous driver, but it does reduce them.

Entities

Common hostile Entities

Hounds, Clumps, Smilers, Chalk Walkers or Kettles have been spotted alongside the road, in the middle of the road or swarming vehicles and corpses. If you see a vehicle getting swarmed by entities, resist the urge to help. It is better them than you.

Unique Hostile Entities: Other Commuters

While there are other entities roaming this level, the main entity of concern in Level -92 are 'Other Commuters'. 'Other Commuters' are the main entities that inhabit Level -92. Besides being hostile, they are intelligent enough to mimic the appearance, speech patterns and behavioral patterns of other humans and humanoid entities without ever meeting them or you. They also can operate the number of abandoned vehicles you will find in the shoulder of or in the middle of this road. The true form of these entities is unknown as they mimic the following:

  1. Counter entities from Level 11
  2. Facelings especially the cop variant from Level -50
  3. Traveler entities from Level -202 and who has the travel rating of 4 and above
  4. Dr. Astrid F. Nightingale from Level -511
  5. Other humans especially people you known
  6. You. If you see yourself on or in the road, run 'yourself' over.

Hunting tactics

  1. Mimicry (obvious)
  2. Attempting to lure you out by offering allyship and supplies or taunting and provoking
  3. Blocking the roads with themselves or vehicles
  4. Ambushing and attempting to break into your vehicle
Weapons Advisory:
If you have weapons, use them on suspicious entities outside your vehicle sparely. Some entities will approach your vehicle in hordes, so it is better to peel off than fight them off.
If you do not have any weapons, do not provoke or engage any entities outside your vehicle.
If you or anyone have been driving, it is strongly advised to avoid using your weapons and to give your weapons over to any passengers (if you have any) of sound mind and body and are good marksmen.

Present state of the road:
The road at this time is completely dark and can only be illuminated by the PPV's headlights. Officer Wolfe admitted that he fell asleep while James was taking a nap. The officer woke to the road looking like this. The officer insisted some large and unholy entity darted across the road.
Date: ██/██/████
Time: Unknown
M.E.G. Researcher, James G. Brown is an experienced driver. James got his driver's license ██/██/███. He has been driving for over ██ years. James appeared in Level -92 as a passenger. James reported that he found himself in the passenger seat of Officer Atticus N. Wolfe's Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV). There have been several reports that Officer Atticus N. Wolfe is a false faceling from Level -50. Officer Wolfe is the only known faceling capable of coherent speech.
James noted that the officer's face was blanked. The officer could be heard insisting that he did not know how they got here, he did not know where they were, and he had a bad feeling about this place [Level -92]. He was going to get them out there. The officer gave James his gun and said, "If I lose myself again, aim between the eyes. I think I did some horrible... I cannot remember what."
Comments: James reported that he did not see anything strange about the officer's appearance, minus his empty face. James noted that the officer is clearly out of his element.

James noticed that Officer Atticus N. Wolfe is struggling to stay present. When the Officer's eyes reappeared on his face, they would be seen darting in everything direction. The officer confessed, "I saw myself out here walking alongside this road. I was dragging the body of a little girl. That little girl was sitting next to me before you appeared."
James gave Officer Wolfe some neon water to calm him down. The officer's face reappeared. James noted that the officer looked visibly shaken. Officer Wolfe looked like he had been out here driving for more than a few days without stopping to sleep. James offered to take over driving. Officer Wolfe insisted it was not a good idea for them to stop to switch. Officer Wolfe warned, "That thing has been following us out here for some time now. It looks like me! Why does it look like me!? This place is doing weird sh*t to me! I know it! If you get behind this wheel... this place will f*ck with you. I know it will. I need you to keep me present, okay?" James agreed. There is no point in both of them going insane out here.
Comments: n/a

Officer Atticus N. Wolfe's doppelgänger was spotted on the road. James noted that his replica was covered in blood and dragging the body of a M.E.G. military operative. James noted that the officer's face disappeared again as he sped up his vehicle and a made beeline for this entity. Officer Wolfe's vehicle made contact with this entity at full speed, spattering this creature into a fine, red paste. The officer repeatedly backed up and drove over it several times until James begged him to stop. It took the officer 10 minutes for him to compose himself.
Comments: James's report suggests that other non-hostile humanoid entities can get lost in Level -92 by unknown means. They are not immune to the effects of this level. Officer Wolfe was reportedly calmer after he ran over his doppelgänger. Officer Wolfe and M.E.G. Researcher James G. Brown were lost on the road of Level -92 for 12 more hours until they reached the exit that led to Level -50.

Log 2

Driver: Sasha Rosewood
Driver Type: Humanoid Entity, Traveler (with a rating of 5)
If driver is an entity, what is their place of origin: Level -202
Number of Passengers: 2
Passenger 1: Wanderer B.B.
Passenger Type: Human
Passenger 2: M.E.G. Military Operative, Sergeant, Carl E. Burroughs
Passenger Type: Human
Vehicle Type: Purple 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air

Log 2A

This image was taken by Wanderer B.B. featuring the current state of Level -92.

Present state of the road:
The road at this time is unmarked and uneven. The sky is overcast with ominous dark grey clouds. The road is surrounded by scarlet blood-red foliage. Mrs. Rosewood stopped the vehicle 2 times and fell asleep once. She does not know how she got here. She is frantic because she does not know when she acquired passengers. She does not remember stopping her car. She is in tears, realizing she is putting everyone in danger. She is hysterical because her husband is missing.
Date: ██/██/████
Time: Unknown
Passenger 1 Wanderer B.B. is not an experienced driver despite him appearing to be a 38-year-old man. He claimed he never had the opportunity to learn how to operate a vehicle because he was 14 when entering and traversing The Backrooms. He insisted that he was aged while traversed and attempting to escape Level -319. Wanderer B.B. appeared in Level -92 as a passenger in the backseat.
Wanderer B.B. and Mrs. Rosewood recognized each other, which helped calm Mrs. Rosewood down. Wanderer B.B. claimed that he got a ride from her and her husband over three months ago while he was traversing Level -202. Wanderer B.B. confirms that Mrs. Rosewood is a safe entity, thus putting M.E.G. Military Operative Sergeant Carl E. Burroughs's concerns of her being a potential threat and risk at ease. Sgt. Burroughs noted that this relationship and familiarity might reduce the likelihood of Mrs. Rosewood completely losing it out here. He expressed concern about the whereabouts of her spouse. Losing a spouse would understandably upset anyone.
Sgt. Burroughs noted that Mrs. Rosewood was visibly agitated. She recounts that she and her husband were driving together on the road of Level -202. She was suddenly alone on this unfamiliar road. She insisted she saw these ugly dog-like creatures, Hounds, swarming the inside of this van. There was viscera and blood everywhere. She was alone out here for four hours. She cannot recall when Sgt. Burroughs and Wanderer B.B. appeared in her vehicle, but both Sgt. Burroughs and Wanderer B.B. reported they were in her car the moment they entered this level. They recounted she was acting strangely until she regained coherency.
Comments: Sgt. Burroughs reported that she said some disturbing things that will not be repeated here. No one could note anything strange about her appearance. Her behavior was frantic and erratic, and she made unsettling remarks. Sgt. Burroughs made it his goal to get everyone, including this female entity, out of this place safely. He also wanted a follow-up on the whereabouts of her husband. He adds that it would be cruel to not give her any closure.

Log 2B
Date: ██/██/████
Time: Unknown
Mrs. Rosewood has been singing a sweet-sounding song in an unknown language for the past 45 minutes. She is disturbed as she witnessed a version of both Sgt. Burroughs and Wanderer B.B. alongside the road picking at her husband's corpse. Sgt. Burroughs reported that he offered to let him drive. She calmly retorted, "Why? This place will get to you too, then what? Crazy Ed spoke about this place. He told me and Theo the effects only wear off once you get out. B.B. cannot drive, so if we both go insane...who will help B.B." She whispers ominous, "By the way, I saw your son out on the drive while you and B.B. were asleep. I know your son is safe somewhere in The Frontrooms, so I ran the imposter over. I did not hit hard enough. It got up on all fours and crawled back into the woods."
Comment: Sgt. Burroughs reported that he pressed Mrs. Rosewood for more details concerning the appearance of the entity that favored his son. Sgt. Burroughs claimed she described his son's appearance with disturbing accuracy. Sgt. Burroughs convinced Mrs. Rosewood to let him take over if she saw anything strange again.

Log 2C
Date: ██/██/████
Time: Unknown
Mrs. Rosewood stopped the car suddenly and pulled a shotgun from under the dashboard. She murmured, "You are not my husband... I will kill everything out here if I have to!" Sgt. Burroughs reported, and Wandered B.B. confirmed that they saw an entity that favored Theo Rosewood. This entity was beckoning for Mrs. Rosewood to get out of the car. Sgt. Burroughs was not able to stop her from leaving the vehicle. Sgt. Burroughs reportedly ordered B.B. to not go out after her. Sgt. Burroughs managed to climb over into the driver's seat. Sgt. Burroughs and B.B. reported that after Sgt. Burroughs got seated, Mrs. Rosewood had blown the creature's head off with the shotgun. They spotted a group of Hounds at the edge of the woods. They did not attack her as she emitted this ungodly shrill scaring the pack back into the woods. She turned back towards the car. Sgt. Burroughs flashed the vehicle's headlights at her to signal that he was in the driver's seat and was taking over. She understood and scrolled with an eerie calmness towards the front passenger side and got in. Sgt. Burroughs waited for Mrs. Rosewood to get back in the vehicle and seated before peeling off. He saw out of the rearview mirror that the Hounds Mrs. Rosewood scared off returned to rip apart the imposter's corpse.
Comments: Sgt. Burroughs remarked that Mrs. Rosewood is not a force to be reckoned with when it comes down to it. The little lady is more threatening than she leads on. Sgt. Burroughs and B.B. reported that Mrs. Rosewood resumed singing to herself once she was back in the car. Sgt. Burroughs claimed he was struggling to stay present and did see the entity that favored his son limping across the road. They were on the road for another 45 minutes before they reached the exit for Level -202. Sgt. Burroughs and B.B. appeared alongside the road of Level -202 with The Rosewoods putting up beside them. Theo Rosewood was in the front passenger seat and thanked them for looking after his wife.

Log 3A

This image was taken by Wanderer C.J. featuring the current state of Level -92.

Present state of the road:
This road at this time is leading into a tunnel illuminated by orange, square fluorescent lights. M.E.G. engineer, Harry C. Gilchrist confessed that he was struggling to stay awake and focused. He remarked that he noticed that every time his concentration wavered the environment got more horrifying.
Date: ██/██/████
Time: Unknown
Harry remarked that Astrid's presence was pleasant yet unnerving. Astrid (riding front passenger) does unpainfully favor his twin sibling, Kim. It was recalled that Harry asked Astrid did he know where they were. Astrid responded calmly, "They were approaching a spatial anomaly that resembled hell. Before you ask... I do not know if my brother is responsible for the existence of this level. Some places in The Backrooms existed long because we ever existed, and you and I are just discovering them now."
M.E.G. Military Operative, Private, Bernadette T. Talyor (riding right passenger) proceeded to ask Harry what branch of M.E.G. was he. Harry answered he was from Squadron Omega-26, "Puzzle Solvers". He won the game in Level -511 and ended up here. He admitted that he is suspicious of Astrid and does not know what role he is playing concerning his brother's deviant activities. Astrid calmly responded, "I am not involved with my twin, and you cannot hold me responsible for what my twin does." Private Bernadette T. Talyor pressed Astrid, "How did you get here then...?" Astrid maintains poise, "I was in my office, and now I am here. I do not know why or how." Wanderer C.J. (riding left passenger) came to Astrid's defense, "Leave him alone! If he wanted to hurt us, he would possibly do more to us than have us ride with him to Hell..."
Comments: Both personnel resolved that it was in their best interest to not harass Astrid. Reports concerning this entity insisted Astrid functions as The Backrooms therapist. Astrid is described as the balance to his brother's chaos.

Log 3B

This image was taken by Wanderer C.J. featuring the current state of Level -92. He wrote on this photo, I think we are f*cked.

Present state of the road updated:
This road at this time is a multilane highway surrounded by a dark forest leading towards a burning and charred post-apocalyptic city. In the distance, a fiery mushrooms cloud can be seen rising into the air. Streaks of lightning can be seen ripping across the dark foreboding sky. The sky smells of burning flesh, foliage, and metal.
Date: ██/██/████
Time: Unknown
Driver: M.E.G. Military Operative, Private, Bernadette T. Talyor (replaces Harry).
Harry began to drive erratically. It was not known why. He almost drove the vehicle off the overpass and down into the dark forest that surrounded this road. Harry suddenly leaped out of the car with the vehicle still going at full speed. Astrid managed to climb into the driver seat, get a hold of the steering wheel and stabilize the car. Astrid hopped out of the car to pursue Harry. Harry had sprinted across several lanes of traffic and was headed for the other side of the overpass. Bernadette was close behind Astrid and successfully subdued him shouting, "Let him go, Astrid!! Do you not see the circling shadows!" Astrid acknowledged that Harry's fate was sealed. Astrid reluctantly allowed Bernadette to guide him back into the car. Bernadette got Astrid back into the passenger seat. She noted the look of pity on Astrid's face as everyone heard Harry cry out in distress and agony. Bernadette recalled that she got back into the car as Wanderer C.J. remarked, "We need to help him!" Bernadette whispered, "There are too many of them, and I do not have ammo to deal with them all."
Comments: Bernadette had to peel off because there was a large group of Kettles circling the car. Bernadette recalled spotting a replica of a Harry mutilated and walking alongside the road. Bernadette knew this was a trick and taught. She ignored 'him'. She had to stay strong to ensure her passengers got out safely. They were out there for another hour before finding the exit for Level 11. Bernadette and wanderer C.J. appeared on a sidewalk in Level 11. Astrid was nowhere to be found. Bernette requested a follow-up on Astrid's whereabouts. A few days later, a M.E.G. operative approached her, confirming that Astrid made it back to Level -115.

Colonies and Outposts

Due to the nature of Level -92, colonies and outpost cannot be established out here.
