Description
Level 429 is the 430th level of The Backrooms. Level 429, or “Grey Day”, is described as a monochromatic infinite winding road. This road is very reflective of a road one would see in real life, as there are bus stops, buildings, and even parked cars. Don’t let this deceive you though, as there are many oddities to this level.
One of the most noticeable oddities is the entrances to buildings, as every entrance to these buildings is either blocked off, or locked. Another oddity that can be noticed is the contents of trash cans on level 429, these trash cans usually contain a viscous, rotten, organic fluid. The way this fluid is created is unknown, though M.E.G is attempting to discover more about its contents.
This level is very recognizable due to its monochromatic filter it appears to have, this makes the level all various shades of grey, which is very off putting. There may be no entities on this level, but the main danger within this level is its mental effect. This level is known to suddenly cause schizophrenia in whomever is wandering around for long enough, this can quickly drain sanity and cause paranoia.
This level is very lacking in supplies, making regaining your sanity nearly impossible. Another factor that adds to the horrors of losing sanity is that you will be completely alone for most of your journey, so if you do find someone, make the best of the social interaction. If you can keep your sanity for long enough, you may be able to escape this monochromatic hell.
Colonies and Outposts
There are actually a decent amount of colonies on this level, though one of them is hostile, and won’t trade with wanderers.
The Grey Few
This colony consists of three people, and is very hostile towards wanderers. “The Grey Few” colony likes to hide around the main entry point of this level, making interaction with them very hard not to experience. If you do get lucky, and they aren’t at the entry point, you must run as far as you can. Though if you are unlucky enough to be near the entry point when they are present, they will attempt to kill you, if they are successful they will use your body as food.
Protectors
This colony is run by M.E.G, and simply exists to guide people through this level safely. This colony is very friendly, and will trade with whoever wants to do so. One thing you must be wary of though; there is a large conflict going on between the “Protectors”, and “The Grey Few”. If you see fighting amongst these colonies, your best bet is to escape to another area.
Entities
This level is completely devoid of entities, your only danger in this level is mental health.
Entrances
Entering this level is very simple, and has various different methods of doing so. One way to enter this level is to wander around in level 8 untill you suddenly no-clip, though this method isn’t consistent. The safest way to enter this level, and the most recommended method, is to walk into a dark grey wall that can be found in level 0. The positioning of this wall is always the same, but traveling to it will still be troublesome.
Exits
The only slightly consistent way of escaping this level is by attempting to no-clip through an empty trash can. Empty trash cans are fairly rare on level 429, though your odds of no-clipping to another level is likely. The level that you are taken to is seemingly random, but some of the documented levels are: level 19, level 15, and level 188.
