Description

Level 11 is a sprawling, desolate cityscape of monolithic buildings and winding asphalt roads. The architectural design of the structures in Level 11 varies moderately; while they often resemble the style of the modern urban East, explorations further into the level have revealed increasingly differing designs.[1] Further alterations appear to be correlated with distance; the farther one travels from their initial entrance point, the more varied and disorderly the level’s architecture seems to become.

The smoggy cityscape of Level 11 is haphazardly constructed, seemingly expanded upon with little regard for aesthetics, uniformity, or habitability. Its infrastructure is largely unstable and non-Euclidean, rendering it difficult to properly map or navigate. Attempts to explore the level in a linear fashion have come up short on account of its confusing architecture, with many wanderers reporting intense feelings of disorientation in their attempts to do so. Strangely, despite its lack of life, hints of past human occupancy are scattered throughout Level 11, such as graffiti, tire streaks, and piles of litter.

Long roads divide the masses of empty structures into dense, unclear sections, with nonsensically labeled street signs standing inanely at their junctions. Traffic lights present on street corners display erratic, strobe-like behavior, lacking any clear pattern in their sequences. Analysis of the level's infrastructure has revealed the use of shoddy materials and construction methods, leading to the steady degradation of the roads and buildings, with their metallic creaks and groans creating an uneasy ambience. In some cases, gaps between buildings have been found to be less than a meter wide, leading to a mazelike environment.

The unventilated interiors of the level's structures contain bizarre, often nonsensical layouts, winding into confusing corridors with odd, out-of-place furnishings. The interiors follow no logical architectural pattern: staircases end abruptly, doors lead to flat walls behind them, and hallways loop back to their origin, lead to dead ends, or extend on seemingly endlessly. The labyrinthine nature of the buildings' interiors leads to significant navigational difficulty for those who decide to venture into their senseless heights.[2]

The obtrusive smog of Level 11 contains significant levels of pollutants, such as carbon monoxide and various nitrogen oxides. Such contaminants commonly result from vehicular and industrial activity, further suggesting some form of human occupation within the level, though this has yet to be proven. The presence of these pollutants is highly peculiar due to the level's barren nature, raising concerns about the safety of prolonged occupancy within the level. Further studies have indicated the presence of differing gravitational properties in certain areas, suggesting the existence of structures with extremely high densities.

Colonies and Outposts

Level 11 appears to be entirely devoid of life. Despite its barren nature, explorers have described the level as large enough to house hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of residents. Even plant matter, such as grass, lies dead or decomposed. Research into the origin of this plant matter and its associated phenomenon is ongoing. Experiments involving the manual introduction of foreign flora into the environment of Level 11 have revealed that plants exhibit an inexplicably accelerated rate of decomposition, with all vegetation decomposing and withering within a matter of minutes.[3]

Entrances and Exits

Entrances

  • Following a dirt road for a prolonged period of time in Level 10 may eventually lead one to this level;
  • More open areas of Level 84 may lead to this level.

Exits

  • Certain alley streets may connect to a long dirt road, eventually leading to Level 10;
  • Exceedingly cramped areas of the level may transport one to Level 12;
  • Removing a manhole cover and descending downward may lead to Level 2;
  • Particularly worn and decrepit city blocks may lead one to Level 75;
  • Large, empty highways may lead to Level -69.

Footnotes

  1. Most notably, the presence of more Western and post-Soviet architecture has been documented.
  2. Despite the presence of exterior doors and windows, many buildings lack interior connections to them. While some structures are entirely hollow on the inside, others are completely filled in with concrete.
  3. As this effect does not appear to apply to human life within the level, it has not been deemed a safety hazard.
