Audio Conversation in Level 133 Between M.E.G. Operatives Steven Heissman and Drake Frewnby
Date: 9.24.2020

Steven Heissman: Drake, come look at this email. Another threat against the M.E.G. How original. I doubt it's credible in any way.

Drake Frewnby: [Scoffs] You can say that again. Even if it was credible, Gestalt Arsenal's defenses are way too rigid. I doubt anyone could drive us out by force without a seven nation army.

Steven Heissman: Seven nation army? Come on. This is a M.E.G. base. No other established organization even comes close to penetrating our defenses. The P.E.A. could launch a full-out assault and we would win with little to no casualties.

[Laughter]

Drake Frewnby: Their funeral, I guess. This place is too cold anyway. [Winks]

Level 133 is the 134th level of the Backrooms; originally the location of one of the M.E.G.'s highest-security outposts, it has now been reduced to ruins after a massive assault. For logging purposes, all three versions of this page—before settlement, during settlement, and after settlement—will be displayed. The M.E.G. understands that the fall of Gestalt was a major shock to many, and it is crucial that the history of this base and the level associated with it be visible to the public.

The level's history is separated into 3 chapters—Birth, Gestalt, Decay. Birth is the first draft of Level 133, before the M.E.G. created the Gestalt Arsenal base. After the M.E.G. finished building the base and established a temporary home for many wanderers, Level 133's page was revised, entering the second chapter—Gestalt. Unfortunately, events concerning a rebellion and siege culminated in the destruction of Gestalt Arsenal, leaving barely anything left in the third revision of the page, Decay.

Author's Note: Ah, Birth. Before Gestalt, there was nothing but violent tundra, wired to kill any wanderers who dared to enter. Understand the numerous sacrifices of brave men and women who gave up their lives to build Gestalt in all its glory. 453 total casualties, with 287 declared missing or deceased. The base brought prosperity to many wanderers, who would frequently use this level as passage to Level 3999 in a stubborn attempt to escape the Backrooms or as a personal mine to get rich through the massive diamond reserve. The M.E.G. initially refused to build the base, but numerous protests outside Headquarters with signs like "LET US LEAVE!" and "I WANT TO GO HOME!" eventually pressured them.

Unfortunately, no known image of this level exists. The harsh weather renders wanderers' cameras useless.

Description

Background

Level 133 appears as a large tundra—icy and cold. Vegetation is nearly non-existent in this level, as the extremely cold temperatures, usually around -20°C, create an extremely difficult environment for plants and trees to survive in. Going underground may provide temporary relief from the temperature, but it's still extremely cold. Most wanderers here risk their life, entering this level to extract the diamonds found underground—because of the danger associated with mining these specific diamonds, they are worth millions. Others have seen rumors of a shortcut to Level 3999, which many have proclaimed to be an exit to reality. Both endeavors are strongly discouraged by the M.E.G. because of immense danger, but many wanderers have disobeyed the advice.

While a day-night cycle exists on this level, nighttime is nearly three times as long as daytime. Without a heat source during the nighttime, temperatures will likely drop below -50°C, becoming incredibly dangerous to any living beings nearby. It is very common to see clouds in the sky that can cause snowing, but occasionally, a strong wind will hit, causing a blizzard. These blizzards occur somewhat frequently, lasting approximately 6 hours each with a 30-minute downtime. Being outdoors during a blizzard will almost guarantee death—the snow will be almost 9 feet deep at the peak of the blizzard, slowly suffocating any wanderer unlucky enough to be caught, as gravity here is seven times that of Earth's.

Upon entry to this level, a noticeable ticking noise can be heard every second during the blizzard's downtime. While the sound starts off quiet right after the end of a blizzard, impossible for humans to hear without special equipment, as the blizzard's onslaught draws closer, the ticking gets louder, on average becoming unbearable to listen to 5 minutes before the blizzard begins.

Because of the increased gravity of this level, time appears to pass by slower, obeying the Theory of Relativity. Every second that passes in this level is a minute everywhere else. While the blizzard lasts 6 hours to those inside the level, to people not currently inside the level, the blizzard will last 360 hours. Similarly, while the blizzard's downtime is 30 minutes while inside this level, it is approximately 30 hours to those not inside the level. The switch in gravity and time passage occurs immediately after entry, so it is not recommended to enter Level 133 if there is less than 10 hours left before the blizzard, as you'll have less than 10 minutes to prepare. Confusion between the two times has led to casualties—many wanderers unaware of the difference in time passage have accidentally entered the level during a blizzard, suffering a quick death.

To reduce casualties, the M.E.G. has placed down a timer in front of the level entrance that displays the current status of the level and how much time is left before the next transition. If the timer display is red (during the Blizzard phase and the Downtime phase when 10 hours are left on the timer), entry is not safe, as the blizzard would pose a major risk to your life.

In addition, because of the nature of this level, entry to Level 133 is not recommended at this time if you are not a M.E.G. operative or researcher. The M.E.G. is currently working on building a base to make diamond extraction easier and provide temporary shelter to wanderers.

The Tundra

Anyone who enters this level can expect imminent danger—combined with cold temperatures, annoying ticking, and the threat of a blizzard, numerous entities roam this level during the blizzard downtimes. They appear to be immune to the cold and heavily resemble Arctic animals from the Frontrooms, but they have more distorted features and higher stamina.

The Polars, which resemble polar bears, are much more deadly than their real-life counterpart. Their teeth have been replaced with fangs, their eyes are a bloody red, and they will growl at their prey for approximately 2 seconds before relentlessly chasing and devouring the victim.

The Pengs, which resemble penguins, travel in groups, quickly sliding across the icy surface for fun with sharp beaks capable of impaling anyone in their way. Their speed can reach that of a bullet, making it mandatory to constantly keep your guard up to avoid being impaled. While they are not inherently hostile and generally ignore humans, unaware wanderers can easily be killed by them if not careful.

The Dol-Finz, which resemble dolphins, dig through the rock below as a quick means to travel. With how strong this level's gravity is, the rock above should quickly collapse into the tunnel created by the Dol-Finz; however, their tail has the special ability to fill in the tunnel behind them with rocks. This cannot be explained. Capable of seeing wanderers both on the surface and underground somehow, these entities will target humans—presumably their next meal. Upon seeing a wanderer on the surface, the Dol-Fin will resurface, open its mouth, then dive directly onto the victim before it and the victim disappear into the ground below. For wanderers underground, the Dol-Fin will charge and open its mouth, devouring the victim.

Colonies and Outposts

As of now, there are no colonies or outposts on this level. However, the M.E.G. has proposed building a base here due to popular demand; construction is slated to start on January 3, 2016 and will take approximately 1 year to finish. It will hold 300 maximum occupants and will simultaneously act as homes for diamond miners and wanderers. 5 operatives will be required to oversee the base's operations.

Entrances and Exits

Entrances

  • While entering this level is not recommended, strolling through Level 150 will eventually lead you a garden of psychoactive mushrooms, with a M.E.G. branded timer next to it. This is your way in. Take a white psychoactive mushroom appear here.

Exits

  • The only way out is back the way you came—unfortunately, there will be no door behind you, but simply walking into the invisible barrier where the door would be will transport you back to Level 150.
  • An exit to Level 3999 is rumored to exist, but this is unconfirmed. Rumors started solely because of a small little poem written by a 5-year-old boy. The boy claims to see visions and hear voices, and his writing ability surpasses that of even some college students. As a result, many wanderers have hailed his poem as prophecy.

Where the infinite garden resides,

Roses, orchids, and mushrooms on all sides.

The white plants shall be ingested,

To appear at a terrain of ice and snow.

From there, you shall be tested.

Understand that this is no easy feat,

With nothing but blood diamonds in tow.

But if the blizzard can be beat,

Come to the arcade where you shall be free.

Coincidentally, white mushrooms started growing in Level 150 shortly before this poem was discovered. However, the M.E.G. suspects foul play is involved in this poem's implications.
