Level 142 is the 143rd level of the Backrooms.
Level 142, also known as Tinnitus Torment (Turkish: Çınlama Eziyeti), resembles a plain, gray sky resembling slightly grained television static. The television static can frequently produce noise (up to ten seconds) in very quiet portions. A few gray, blurry trees are scattered throughout the level, with yellowed papers with scribbled drawings or writing on them are scattered next to the trees. Broken jump ropes, puppets, jacks, and many other children's toys (mostly from the 90s) are scattered randomly throughout the level.[1] There are remains of rotting human intestines, eyes, and teeth scattered throughout the emptier parts of the level. If the traveler picks up a tooth, they will feel compelled to put said tooth in their mouth and try to eat it. How this phenomena occurs is unknown.
Level 142 was discovered in the early 1900's by the Osmanlı Liminalı Alanlar Bakanlığı whilst exploring the Backrooms.[2] Over the span of a few months, more and more settlements began to emerge, to the point where it was believed to be a safe haven. Many well-known organizations including the M.E.G. settled for a period of time. However, in the 1970's, people began to mysteriously disappear, which caused major disbands of groups and colonies. It was later revealed that Phenomenon 15 had taken over Level 142 completely. The reason of the phenomenon's sudden appearance has not been discovered, however it still lurks in the level.
This level creates an abnormal effect where the traveler's hearing is affected, causing symptoms of tinnitus, which the level is most notable for. The tinnitus, as documented by wanderers, have known to progressively get worse the longer an individual stays.[3] However, when they leave the level, any efects of the tinnitus will cease to exist.
Entities
There are no reported entities on Level 142, though there have been rumors of humanoids of all ages and sizes, but their forms are blurry and darkened. These were named the Yabancilar, though after investigation they have been proven to be false.
Colonies and Outposts
Due to the nature of this level, colonies and outposts cannot be established.
Entrances and Exits
Entrances
- Touching a fridge found in the alleyways of Level 9.7 transports one here.
- Finding a certain painting in Level 18 that resembles said description of the level and slamming your head into it will send you here.
Exits
- No-clipping into a tree will send you to Level 60.
- No-clipping through a small star-shaped patch of ground will bring you to Level 143.
- Entering a white house-like structure will lead you to Level 228.
- Playing with a broken toy will lead one to Level 132.
Footnotes
- ↑ These are, however, rare to find.
- ↑ After the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire, many Turkish wanderers began to explore the level, mainly to pay tribute to fallen Ottomans.
- ↑ If stayed long enough, the tinnitus can cause death. If one already has preexisting tinnitus upon entering this level, this process is accelerated.

So I remember stumbling upon this place.
I felt the warm, chilling grass on my oily palms. They were gelid and spiky, and the second I felt 'em, I took them off. Pretty sharp, I'd say. I heard a ring my ear. The ring of tinnitus. Ugh. As if the Backrooms couldn't get any worse. I walked and walked. It was absolutely lukewarm, and I sure hated it. I saw broken toys, the sight of trees and their little yellow papers, the plain, gray sky, a home...
A home?

The sight of a home rather... stunned me, to be exact. To add with the conditions, I didn't expect such a decent house in the middle of nowhere.
Before this mishap all happened, my fellows disbanded. We were once a great team, full of wonder and happiness as we tried to explore this gloomy world made by the pits of hell. And then what happens next? We get into a fight, a big one. It almost led into a shootout, but it ended with us disbanding. We made a pact to never reunite. That's when I realized without them I'm a nobody, poised on top of the downward spiral. I had nothing to lose. I had nothing to lose. So I went in.
The first thing I noticed was a stench. A massive stench, in fact. I really needed to do a number one, so obviously I went to the toilet. And there it was with all its wasted glory.

It was so disgusting. The fact of even taking a piss was insane at this point. But a man's gotta do what he's gotta do.
I then heard stomping. Big, big stomping. I turned around. I saw a man, but it didn't look like any other man. His eyebags were sore and one of his eye's was ripped off. I screamt, and ran for my life. The tinnitus and heart banged faster than anything in my life.
