They were driving down a back road one night.

In the driver's seat sat a man named Soren.

In the passenger seat next to him was a man named Timothy.

The snow on the road was starting to melt away.

The sun was setting.

Soren's eyes were heavy. He had been driving for more than 10 hours with no progress.

Timothy was distracted, staring out the window aimlessly.

.

.

.

"Where are we even heading?" Timothy asked, still looking out of the window.

"To Kraków. Why are you so forgetful? What did you eat yesterday?" Soren asked Timothy, staring at him, waiting for the answer.

"Nobody keeps track of that!"

"It is very normal to remember what you did yesterday, Tim."

.

.

.

"Tim, will you change the channel?"

"No, they are telling the news just now. I know you don't like them–"

"It is in another language."

"Oh... I forgot about that."

"You were just looking out of the window for way too long."

"You caught me."

Tim looked down at the stereo. It was collecting dust due to the age of the car, not to mention the fact it hadn't been cleaned in months.

He reached down to the stereo...

Tim's Stereo
Tim's Stereo2

The shift between the channels was distorted, skipping over two stations.

"Station... 151BR? That's odd for a channel name. Soren, have you heard of that?"

"No."

It played a melody that was distant and haunting, yet beautiful.

"so beautiful..."

Soren said, almost like he was dazed.

Almost like he was hypnotized.

His pupils dilated as his hands left the steering wheel.

They were going to crash.

Tim's heart slammed against his ribs.

"Soren, put your hands back!"

But Soren did nothing. Just staring into the road.

"SOREN THE STEERING WHEEL!"

The music was growing louder every single second.

"SOREN— "

But it was too late.
The two were never seen again.

Two Men Vanish after Late-night Crash on an Isolated Backroad

Photograph of the scene

This morning, an elderly woman spotted the car while walking along the road. She immediately called the police in a nearby telephone booth, prompting them to conduct a thorough investigation of the area. She said that there were no nearby footprints to indicate the location of the passengers, who went missing.

The police's investigation gave way to more questions than answers. The only sign of passengers were the tire marks that the car left, and blood on the airbag likely from a nosebleed caused by whiplash. K-9 units were used to find the passengers using the car's scent, but that led nowhere.

Interviews from the nearby village also indicated two occupants in the vehicle, displaying odd behaviour. An elderly couple exclaimed: "Inside the car were two men. They were going in a loop, passing out house three times before going onto the back road.".

The channel can manifest in any car, trapping the victim once played.

Station 151BR is a terminal discovered in January 2005, due to various wanderers claiming to have been sent to the Backrooms via its transmission. Where these wanderers first appear when transported remains unclear, as the interviewed wanderers have given mixed or otherwise incomplete responses. The current theory goes that most wanderers affected by Station 151BR are sent to a level with a vehicle-centric layout.

The terminal is a series of radio waves that can be distributed without knowledge of any local or international radio station. This waves originate from a level now known as Level 151. Its appearance can only happen in cars that can freely switch between radio stations. When selected, Station 151BR plays a monophonic, adagio tune. It has been described as feeling distant and haunting, along with it slowly rising in volume over its playtime. The sound remains confined to the car's interior, and cannot be adjusted auditorily over its runtime.

Listening to Station 151BR triggers a hypnotic effect upon the driver. This hypnosis will then force them to let go of the steering wheel, while still pressing the gas pedal. In every instance, this has lead to a crash, and everyone inside the car being transported to The Backrooms. Information about its transmission and hypnotic properties is under investigation.

Level 151 is the 152nd level of the Backrooms, discovered on the 23rd of January, 2009.

Overview[]

The first picture ever taken of the level, showing off the antennas.

Level10.71main

Level 151 colloquially referred to as "Radiowaves" is a vast gently rolling tundra broken up by intermittent clusters of pine forests. Snow blankets the terrain all year-round, and the temperature is inconsistent compared to the weather: it may oscillate from 0⁰C and 20⁰C, without any visible changes. The air has a faint smell of metal[1]. Plains can extend for tens of kilometers with no other variation, disorienting wanderers. Despite the snow, the level never snows or has any snow falling from the sky. Many images exist of the level snowing, likely being an anomaly when taking an image.

The main feature of Level 151 are its abnormally large antennas. These "giants"[2] have a minimum diameter of 65 meters, and a maximum of 870 meters. Some can be seen from kilometers away due to their sheer size; dwarfing the viewer even when seen far away. The mega-structures are made out of concrete with metal reinforcements with many cracks forming in them. No matter how big the crack is, or how formidable they are, they will never cause the structure to break and plummet down. Their color is a faded grey with signs of weathering, stained by rust and snow. Each antenna has a ladder going up to a small platform made out of metal.

When around the antennas a constant low-frequency vibration is heard. These signals sound different from what Level Keys emit, being almost a melody. They cause interference with nearby electronics, making every object from watches to computers not work.

Endless flats of snow

Level10.71secondary

The antennas' signal can reach outside of the Backrooms, possibly reaching into other locations or realities. The most common manifestation of them out of the Backrooms are in reality, a terminal which would start playing the signals the antennas send out, and make the persons inside the car noclip into the Backrooms. .

Off the base of the antennas are radio stations dwarfed by their size. They look like small office buildings, made out of concrete and metal edges. The interior has a few hallways and multiple rooms:

  • Technical rooms: These rooms have massive heavy transmitters, floor to ceiling. Large analog meters and gauges measure signal strength. There are thick coaxial cables covering almost every side of the room.
  • Broadcast/Control rooms: This room is where the machines are set up for recording. Old school mixing consoles that have labels in an unknown language, big, metallic and heavy microphones, wall clocks, and a small desk with a chair.
  • Storage rooms: These are the smallest rooms, being the size of a regular pantry. There are shelves with empty folders and maintenance tools on them. Cables are also present, but to a much smaller extent.

Across the fields are a series of powerlines. They emit radio signals through their wires instead of carrying electricity. They are extremely tall, but not as tall as the antennas, leaning at impossible angles. The wires stay extremely still, and span for kilometers; one pylon can be very far away from another one. When near a pylon, a wanderer will get a feeling to follow it and see where it leads. This leads nowhere mostly, during the walk the wanderer will lose track of time and won't stop walking until they reach their unreachable destination, resulting in them dying from thirst.

Phenomenon 41 ‣ Radio Channels[]

Eye1

Frequency: 4/5 Effectiveness: 3/5 Danger: ?/5

Radio Channels are a phenomenon that this level creates. The antennas send out signals to other levels, causing the phenomenon. It can manifest on radios, car stereos, jukeboxes, even televisions.

Before the level's discovery, the only channel that existed was Channel 151BR. It would play haunting music that can hypnotize the listener. It is the only channel that has been successful to break through the dimension wall, and enter other dimensions and broadcast there. Daily broadcasts consist of jazz to classical music, ending in an ad break. The ad breaks are made up of gibberish or just words strung together with no meaning.

Many groups and wanderers have taken advantage of this, making their own channels for purposes of entertainment, information, and even malicious intents. Below is a list of the most popular stations:

  • Backrooms Radio Channel (2BR): One of the first stations ever set up, made by the Backrooms Colonists, serving as a general station. It covers topics like news, to advertisements, to music and even covering the weather of certain levels.
  • The Database (6BR): A base set up by two wanderers made for giving information about various levels, entities, objects, phenomena of the Backrooms. It gained popularity quickly.
  • Backrooms Today (20BR): Made by the group with the same name, it grew popularity for telling the news, just like their group does. It reaches out to levels where they normally couldn't be at. A lot less popular.
  • M.E.G. station (11BR): A station that was set up to guide wanderers on how to survive, giving survival tips and survival guides for many more dangerous levels.

The stations can be used for other uses as well. Some have managed to use it as a way to transmit messages, and only send them to certain players.

Entities[]

No entities exist on Level 151, although it could be possible for them to inhabit it.

Entrances & Exits[]

Entrances[]

  • The most common way of entering is through Station151BR.
  • On any level, a door may manifest to this level. This door will be made out of metal and the level will be behind it.

Exits[]

Footnotes

  1. More precisely having a smell of raw copper and more prominently steel;
  2. Giants commonly refer to the antennas.

Subject: Antennas in Level 151

Hello, Gary.
I decided to contact you about a strange observation of the antennas. It feels like they are alive.
I came to this conclusion after tracking inaudible signals, recording what feels like two antennas communicating. The signals came back and forth, they also could not be read. When we attempted reading it, it ended up in failure. After this, there was a proper look trough of the object. It shoved no signs of life at first, until one of the researchers suggested using a heart monitor. It obviously sounded outlandish, but we did it just in case.
Turns out, the satellites have a heart—or an organ similar to a heart. The monitor showed stable beating.
It can be just an anomaly, but we highly doubt it.

Interesting beings

LivingAntennaCul

Description[]

A recent discovery proved that the antennas are living organisms, deeply rooted into the entirety of the Backrooms. Currently, it is known to only inhabit Level 151.

As stated in the level's description, they appear as large antennas with satellite dishes, made out of concrete and metal. There are many cracks, likely from aging of the being, presumed that the more cracks they have the older they are. Another indicator of age is in their size; the larger ones are newer and the older ones are smaller, similar to mountains of reality. The satellite dish has a small yet unnoticeable opening, which is where it emits the signals.

Biology[]

They have an exoskeleton with a similar appearance to concrete, and with bones similar to metal. Some parts of the exoskeleton appear as reinforcements made from metal. They weigh roughly ~250 tons, with larger specimens growing to a thousand tons.

They form out of nothing. They rise up from the ground without warning, being gargantuan at first. Over a few decades they will start shrinking until they are smaller than the radio station. During that phase they will disappear, taking the station with it. Cracks also indicate age, but a lot less clearly than the size. The more cracks one has, the older it is.

Behavior[]

Their behaviors remain mysterious. What is known about them is that they communicate with other antennas through a system of signals can be picked up on any recorder. It has similar patterns to seismic activity. They are the reason for snow existing on the level. They replenish melted snow, replace it with new, freshly fallen snow that didn't fall. It is assumed that they do it with the help of certain frequencies.
