Description
Level 15 is a labyrinth of maze-like, extensive hallways with futuristic architecture and technology. The disorienting nature of the halls comes from their non-rectangular shapes, always feeling so vast, yet so narrow. On the ceiling is a long-stretching LED light, the only source of luminescence on this level. However, its abandoned state has resulted in sparks flying out, frequent flickering, and complete power outages. During power outages, the level is completely pitch-black, and the suspenseful whirring of an engine can be heard. The source of the noise is unclear — some wanderers claim it comes from the floor, while others claim it comes from the ceiling. However, the general consensus is that this noise only occurs during the outages.
Occasionally, one may stumble on a worn-down control panel with wires connecting to the floor; most have between ten and twenty buttons — most don't appear to be functional. However, the button labels are intriguing to many: "ON," "OFF," "DESTROY," and "CHANGE" appear to be the only button labels consistent with all the panels. Pushing the "DESTROY" button creates an explosion in an unknown area, causing the hallway to shake violently for several seconds. Surprisingly, despite this, no evidence of an explosion within these halls have been found. The "CHANGE" button has never been pressed. According to witnesses, the button emits some sort of magnetic field that repels all matter akin to a force-field. Despite efforts utilizing force, wanderers have been unable to overcome the field and press the button.
Coming into contact with the field produces this message:
ACCESS DENIED. LEVEL 5 CLEARANCE REQUIRED TO CHANGE REALITY.
Unknown machinery has been discovered within the halls, notably resembling Antikythera mechanisms. Indecipherable inscriptions, complex dials, and broken gears define the majority of these machines; attempts to restart the machines' operations have failed. However, when close to one during a power outage, a faint ticking noise can be heard, mimicking the rate of a human heartbeat. The rate of the ticking continuously slows down over time until the lights turn back on.
Witnesses frequently complain about lightheadedness and dizziness after sustained exposure to the harsh lighting and stale air present in this level — studies have shown that the majority of wanderers temporarily suffer from bradycardia while in this level. The effects are generally exacerbated in areas of complete darkness, so it is recommended that wanderers attempt to leave this area as soon as possible to minimize the risk of irreversible organ damage.
