WAITING FOR A BUS THAT IS TO NEVER COME
uh oh crickets

After walking in the desolate streets in Level 63 for who knows how long, I saw a bus stop. It's probably the only exit out of here. I sat down on the wooden bench and looked around my view. All I could see was a lonely road with a streetlamp.
The streetlamp above me made a soft buzz, and its light flickered in slow, irregular pulses, like it was having trouble staying on. The darkness beyond the road seemed to get closer and swallow up more of the view every time it got darker.
I checked behind the bus stop, then down the road again: still nothing. No headlights. No movement. Just the endless stretch of asphalt disappearing into the night. Just the never-ending asphalt road that fades into the darkness.
I looked behind me.

I saw a gated fence that seemed to lead to Nowhere. The fence was taller than I thought. It had white posts that were leaning inward and arms on top that were at an angle, as if they were bracing themselves against something on the other side.
Beyond it, there was nothing. It wasn't really dark, but there was an emptiness, like the world had stopped rendering past the wired fence. The palm tree next to the stop swayed even though there was no wind. Its leaves whispered against each other, like they were warning me in a way I couldn't quite understand.
I stood up and walked closer to the fence. There was a slope down there, and the ground was uneven and looked like it had just been moved by something big. When I looked past the fence, my eyes struggled to focus. There was nothing beyond it but black space that slowly collapsed in on itself, making my head hurt if I looked at it for too long. The Abyss. I didn’t need a sign to tell me that.
The streetlight behind me flickered again, but this time it was longer. The buzz got stronger and louder, like an insect stuck in the glass.

For a moment, the light went out completely.
In that brief second of total darkness, I heard it.
Not an engine. Not footsteps.
Breathing.
The light snapped back on. Nothing was there.
Level 179
Holy shit!! What was that?? I don't want to be here anymore..
-???

With my heart beating fast, I walked back to the bench and sat down again. The road was still empty, but it felt… different now. The asphalt looked wetter, darker, like it was absorbing the light instead of reflecting it.
It was farther down the road than before, I thought I saw something rectangular, barely outlined against the black. It didn't get any closer. It didn't move at all.
Minutes went by. Or hours. Time didn’t behave right in Level 63. Every so often, I would hear the soft crunch of gravel behind the fence, and then there would be quiet. The palm tree stopped swaying. It looked like the streetlight had made up its mind because it stopped flickering.

Then, the bus stop sign creaked.
I looked up. The metal sign had moved a little, turning on its pole so that it was now facing the road. Pointing. Still no headlights.
Still no sound of an engine.
But somehow, deep down, I knew the bus had already passed.
And it would never stop again.
Level 179: "WAITING FOR A BUS THAT IS TO NEVER COME"[]
Level 179 is the 180th level of The Backrooms.
Description[]
WAITING FOR A BUS THAT IS TO NEVER COME is a road-based level that takes place at night and is strongly linked to darkness, loneliness, and false hope. The level consists of a single, never-ending paved road and a single bus stop lit by a flickering streetlamp make up the level. There is no light in the sky at all times; there are no stars, moon, or clouds to be seen.

The bus stop appears to have a worn-out wooden seat and a metal sign on a rusty pole. The glass windows contain ads that appear to be static. Looking at the static for too long will cause paranoia that someone is there. You sit there, waiting for the bus to come. It never comes.
The sign is often seen slowly turning to face one side of the road, even though there is no wind or mechanical reason for it. Once it turns, it usually stays in that position.

Behind the bus stop is a sloping dirt hill that ends at a tall white gate. Beyond the gate is The Abyss, a huge empty space where it’s hard to tell how deep it is, and things look more distorted the longer you look. Staring too long can cause headaches, nausea, and dizziness. No one who has crossed the gate has ever been confirmed to come back.
There is usually one palm tree near the fence. Its leaves move unpredictably, often when everything else is completely still, making soft rustling sounds.

Time in this area is very strange. People who have been here say that minutes can feel like hours, or they can sit for days without feeling hungry or tired. Clocks and other time-keeping devices often stop working or show the wrong time.
Like the name "WAITING FOR A BUS THAT IS TO NEVER COME", no one has ever seen a bus come by. Still, many feel sure that a bus has passed, often feeling suddenly sad, lost, or like they missed their only chance.

Auditory hallucinations are common, including distant breathing, gravel crunching behind the fence and the soft sound of an engine that suddenly stops.
These sounds do not correlate with any visible source.
Entities[]
No entities have been seen directly inside WAITING FOR A BUS THAT IS TO NEVER COME. The main danger is the level itself. People often feel like they are being watched, but no one has found a physical source for this feeling.

Okay, okay. I found the bus stop. This has to be the place. There’s a bench and a sign. I’m sitting down now. The light is buzzing, but that’s normal, I guess. No cars. No bus. But that’s okay. Buses take time, right? The road is longer than it seemed before. I’m sure it didn’t stretch this far.
There’s a fence behind me. I didn’t notice it at first. I won’t look at it again. Something about it feels wrong. Like it wants me to. The lamp went out for a second. Just a second. When it came back on, the sign was rotated. I didn’t hear it move.
I thought I heard an engine. Not close. Not far. Just… enough to notice. I stood up, but my legs felt heavy. Sitting back down now.
I think it passed already.
I’m not sure how I know it. I just do. It’s a feeling like when you miss the last train home and the station falls silent. The light stops flickering.
Rumors say that this bus will lead to Level 399 or Level 833.
I’m going to wait a little longer. Just in case.
