Description

Part of the centre-section of Level 1883.

Level 1883 resembles a Siberian city from a past time period (somewhere around 1900s-1910s). The city's estimated size is around 35,800 square miles, with the city's surroundings being an infinite thick forest. The level is populated by Facelings. Take precautions when entering alleyways, because they have a small chance to lead to Level 1883.1.

The level's city is entirely controlled by the "Level 1883 Central Authority", which is a small group founded by former M.E.G members.

Policemen employed by the Level 1883 Central Authority constantly patrol the city to look for any new Wanderers. They will confiscate Items which originate from anytime past 1916 such as flashlights, modern clothes, and modern food. Exceptions are made for things originating from the backrooms, such as Almond Water. The Central Authority also give wanderers 1910s era clothing and a starting fund of 40 Rubles. Facelings have been observed to react extremely badly to anything from after 1916. Reactions include:

  • Attacking the person
  • Seizures
  • Destroying things around them

Any Facelings under this effect must be given amnestics.

Currency

The stores use their own level-wide currency, the 1883 Ruble (often just called Ruble). Survivors can be employed in jobs in this town to earn the currency.

Unique Items and Resources

Hiverglass

Hiverglass is a unique type of glass which is extremely hard to break, and traps inorganic items which are thrown at it. The items are stored in a 'pocket dimension', which can be accessed by all instances of Hiverglass. Hiverglass is used to dispose of trash, and has become common-place in a few levels of the backrooms.

Once a few items are thrown into Hiverglass, the glass can no longer be seen through.

'черный порох'

The level has a unique item not found anywhere else, which are found in barrels labelled 'черный порох', which translates to "Gunpowder", but it obviously isn't. The powder has unique properties, which make it an ideal powder for use in explosives and as propellent.

Crimson Oil

Crimson Oil is a raw resource in the form of a liquid, used for cooking, as lubricant, or as a source of fire. It is found underground, but it is not to be mistaken with Petrolium. It resembles Oil, though it has been observed to solidify under hot temperatures, and burst into flames when in contact with water. Crimson Oil gets its name from its distinctive red tint. This is NOT to be used as fuel.

Weather

The level's day-night cycle consists of 10 hours of sunlight, 18 hours of night. The time of day is the same everywhere in the level. The level is nearly always snowing, with only a few hour of sunlight or rain occurring. Clouds in this level are described to be solid, but fragile, acting like meltable spider webs.

Natural disasters have not been recorded in this level.

Buildings and Infrastructure

Level 1883 features a wide array of buildings. These buildings are made primarily of Stone and Wood, with a few other materials for things such as roofs, windows and doors. These buildings serve various different purposes, including Stores, Residential Buildings, Hotels, Light Industry and many more.

The level seemingly gets bigger every 2 months. Every 2 months, at least 1 new building and 1-3 new facelings will appear. This Level is a popular destination as there are affordable places to stay, even though they are pretty low quality and most don't have electricity.

The city is divided into 5 areas.

  • Area 1 - Area 1 is the name designated to centre of the city, where most people appear in. Area O is mostly un-anomalous, though a few exist. It serves as the residential section of the level.
  • Area 2 - Area 2 is the name designated to the southern part of the level. It serves as the industrial section of the level.
  • Area 3 - Area 3 is the name designated to the northern part of the level. It is the most anomalous section in the city. It has no real purpose. Area D is filled with entrances to Level 1883.1.
