Level 1968 (The Enchanted Graveyard)

Danger level:3, Unsafe, Secure, High Entity Count.

Description

Level 1968 is a fairly small level compared to others, it consists of a large cemetery that is about half a mile in width, a farmhouse with 2 floors along as a cellar, and an old fashioned gas station around 5 miles away from the farmhouse. The area is surrounded by a thick fog, that only gets denser as you progress further, only traversing an infinite flat field of grass.

Entities

As the floor's name suggests, the cemetery within this level is very anomalous, every 5-15 minutes (estimated) an entity known as a Shambler will rise from it's grave, multiple Shamblers can spawn from one grave, and attempts to look inside of the coffin has uncovered that almost all the caskets in the graveyard are empty, leading travelers to assume that they simply manifest in a coffin while not being viewed, much like your classic Romero ghoul, Shamblers are slow, clumsy, and extremely aggressive, destruction of the brain, fire, as well as explosives seem to be the only few ways to put one of these ghouls down for good. They do not appear to know how to open doors or windows, and will instead use brute force to reach their target.

Items

The only anomalous item that can be found within this level, is a Winchester model 94, this can be found within a sliding closet in the farmhouse, this firearm appears to possess a never-ending capacity, as one can eject as many shells as they wish to and still be able to fire, Due to this, it can be thought of as a high-value item to travelers, although many do not possess it, it's only real disadvantage is the fact it can't fire as fast as a tactical magazine fed rifle or a modern autoloading handgun, but having a bottomless ammo supply is still a big plus.

Colonies and Outposts

While there are no known outposts set up in the graveyard or farmhouse, there is a stationary pack of survivors set up by the gas station, they are relatively friendly and will only attack if provoked, exchange and trade of items can also be performed.

Entrances and exits

There are only a few known ways to enter level 1968, the most well known, (and most performed) is to traverse deep into the fog on the infinite highway, if one walks for long enough, they'll end up walking to the other side of the fog, leading to the graveyard, this method can also be used to exit level 1968, however, this method is quite dangerous and risky due to the beings from above and smilers within the infinite highway. The only other known way to get into this level, is to dig up a grave in level 100, and jump in it, this might lead to one appearing in a coffin within the graveyard, however, you will then have to force your way out of the ground, although, this method is not recommended, as only 2-3 people have been able to pull it off. To exit the enchanted graveyard, one can travel through the fog and end up back in level 69 as mentioned before, or one can try to force open the cellar doors in the farmhouse, this might be difficult to pull off, as the doors are kept shut with a large, rusty padlock, meaning pure force will usually be required, as the key has never been found so far. If one manages to get into the cellar, they will have to unintentionally fall down the stairs, this will lead to noclipping into level 6. Remember that both exits will lead you back to dangerous locations, so it is recommended to bring a group and decent weaponry with you.

Extra info

Those who get bitten by a Shambler, will begin to fall ill, after around 15 minutes to an hour, they will succumb to the unknown disease, and then reanimate as a Shambler themselves, this sickness persists in between levels, leading Shamblers to appear on other floors. the Winchester that can be found within the farmhouse is chambered in 30-30, providing decent velocity and stopping power with a bottomless capacity.

Trivia

1968 is the year in which Night of the Living Dead, the movie that defined the modern zombie, was released, in that movie, the Winchester Model 94 was the firearm used by the main protagonist, Ben.
