Description
A photo of a stairwell within the Mall area. Photographer unknown. Presumably the first image of Level 1984.
Level 1984's main area is a large, pastel-aesthetic, 1980's-like mall, although none of the store spaces are functional. It consists of pink and purple colored walls and ceilings, along with lights of the same colors as well as the windows. It extends for an unknown length and contains much more than what a mall usually would. r Room
The Datacenter:
A photo of a hallway with a seat within the Datacenter. Photographer unknown.
The Datacenter is directly connected to the main area, and takes on the appearance of a modern-day hotel with a unique design. It consists of several rooms, seemingly an infinite amount, where wanderers are free to rest. It is said to be the only location within this level in which the level's effects on the mental psyche are not present. It is advised to come directly here if you believe you are susceptible to the level's effects, especially on extreme counts. In order to reach this location, simply go directly north from spawn through the food court area, and enter through some double doors to the side with a sign that reads "DATACENTER".
This level is said to attack the psyche and mental state of the wanderer that dares to travel through it. This, however, varies in gravity and efficiency from wanderer to wanderer as it primarily uses your own personal regrets and traumas to torture you as you wander throughout. Familiar objects and people may either appear physically at any interval or corner turn or simply flash in the wanderer's vision, reminding them of their past life. It reminds you of your greatest, deepest troubles and suffering from the entirety of your past existence and very quickly will you lose your sanity. It also taps in to your experiences in the Backrooms and any regrets and traumas you may have attained from it. There is naught you can do but try to push through. It is recommended that if you dare to traverse this level, make sure to bring plenty of Almond Water to help you maintain your sanity. It is recommended to immediately make a line for the Datacenter area found within this level.
However, it is noted that every wanderer has a different life. If you are lucky enough to have lived quite a good life prior to entering the Backrooms and have not experienced any trauma-inducing or regretful events while in the Backrooms, then this level will have little to no effect on you and you will be mostly safe. It is recommended that you search for a possible exit, or go to one of the Colonies located at the Datacenter area of this level for help. If you wish, you are also free to do a bit of exploring on this level as there aren't any Entities to worry about thankfully, as the level itself may as well be one. In the event that you find another wanderer's corpse lying on the ground somewhere, do not panic. Turn around and walk away. They are already gone. There is nothing you can do.
For those unfortunate souls that have lived of the worst lives, have may regrets, and suffer from immense trauma, are said to be affected by the level on such an intense scale that they are driven to commit suicide with the first possible method they can imagine using just about anything in their field of view. There is one incident, possibly the most infamous regarding this level. A note from the wanderer who was lucky enough to not be affected by the level, yet was given a way to be affected by it right within the level itself has been found and is transcribed below to the best of our abilities. It seems to originate from a journal of sorts, but only the single page was found within the Datacenter building. Do not open this document if you are sensitive to these topics.
A Note for Gary
What day even is it anymore?
- "We made it to some sort of mall. Reminds me of some 1980s shit I'd seen in some movies my parents showed me. They would probably love this place."
- "My friend thinks the same. Its almost nostalgic even to us. Then again, that's been most of this damn place in general[Talking about the Backrooms]. The shops are all empty but they're all the same ones you would see in the ones back home."
- "There's Old Navy, Sephora, Nike, Adidas, even fucking Victoria's Seceret. Hey, there's even what used to be a lego store, funny enough I remember seeing some kid choke on a small lego block there when I was a kid. I sat there and watched as someone had to come and do the Heimlich maneuver on him. I kind of regret not having dome anything. For some reason I was instantly reminded of that when I saw it first, and oddly enough it looks exactly the same as that store."
- "My friend asks me what I've been doing writing in this book all this time. I tell him we might uncover something important that someone might want to see, and that it helps me maintain my thoughts. He says its dumb and that we probably weren't gonna find anything and he doesn't see how it would help my sanity."
- "He's starting to seem tensed for some reason. He tells me it's nothing. I think we walked past some fountain with a lion in the center of it just now."
- "Thought I saw my mom and dad out of the corner of my eye. Not falling for that. If I've learned anything from my experience in this place its that you don't trust anything you see that you last saw in reality no matter what it is."
- "I'm really starting to worry about my friend now, he's sweating hard and heavily breathing. Almost hyperventilating."
- "He tells me he's alright and in and jokingly tells me he won't do anything stupid like kill himself or anything."
- "He kept repeating "Nononononononono" and breathing heavily as he suddenly sprinted away. I don't know what he saw or anything and i'm super concerned. I'm going after him."
(writing becomes heavily shaky and incredibly difficult to read at this point)
- "I found him. He's running up a yellow-spiral shaped statue."
- "[Unintelligible] but it was like he couldn't hear me."
- "He did it. He [Unintelligible] without any hesitation."
- "I can't...I can't even describe what [Unintelligible]"
- "...right on top of that fence [Unintelligible]"
- "[Unintelligible]"
- "It's everywhere-[Unintelligible]his body[Unintelligible]so much blood"
- "He's gone. He's gone. What did he see? Why didn't he tell me?"
(Writing is now less shaky than before but still shaky)
- "I ran. I ran for as far as I could. I saw a door that said something about a center or whatever. It's like some kinda hotel. I ran right into one of the rooms and I'm sitting on the bed now. I might've seen other people here."
- "I would take a nap but I don't think I can fall asleep after what I saw. I've been here for what seems like hours."
- "Someone slipped a brochure for something called E.V.A. and directions for some location near this hotel. It says they have resources as well as psychological help and can help lead me to an exit. They probably saw me sprinting into this room. Maybe I'll try to go to there."
- "I'm gonna go out. I'm gonna do it. But I'll avoid that place at all costs. Where it all happened. I'm going to this "E.V.A." facility place or whatever."
- "I don't want this page in my book anymore. It's best to leave it behind so I can try to forget what happened. I'm leaving it in this room."
- "I'm sorry, [Writing ends here as this part of the page has seemingly been torn out.]
[End note.]
This wanderer's current whereabouts are unknown as no other pages written by them have been found. It is presumed they either died attempting to reach E.V.A. or did succeed in reaching them.Entities
-This level itself may as well be considered the Entity of Level 1984.
