Level 199 is the 200th level of the Backrooms.
Description
Level 199 consists of infinite multiple arrangements of basins with a haphazard pattern. The height of surrounding mountains possesses a standardized elevation of an impressive 7.5 miles; calculated from the estimated sea level of the level itself to the peak. The atmospheric conditions in Level 199 persist and remain consistent, with it being always cloudy weather. Surrounded by regions of such altitudinous heights and a seemingly "cold" and "windy" weather, it is expected the temperatures inside are exponentially colder than usual, however, by unknown means; warm breezes of wind on occasion happen which increase the temperatures inside up to 90°F. The fogginess in Level 199 decreases the maximum visibility of 2 kilometers, therefore resulting in the indiscernibility of the monstrous mountains, as the prototypical area of each basin is approximately 10 miles in diameter.
The appearance of every basin resembles each other, with all consistently being lofty rice terraces one might pinpoint from the region of Southeast Asia in the Frontrooms, yet possessing an increased unearthly and macabre look.
The liquid in question which supposedly is used to maintain the crops' conditions and healthiness is not thoroughly water, the chemical compound of this liquid mainly consists of ethanol and hydrogen peroxide — both of these compounds result in a mixture, which is precise with those of peracetic acid. Nevertheless, unless one comes in contact with the liquid, a chemical reaction would not transpire. Furthermore, the aforementioned rice crops are seemingly untarnished by the highly corrosive acid, even appearing to consuming it as if it is water.
Any traces of civilization are either in the state of decomposition or comprehensively difficult to ascertain; it is expected to encounter structures made of concrete rather than the typical small buildings made of aluminum foil and wood. It is conjectured the level possesses such a prolonged abandonment process assumed to commence after the existence of the level materializing, or a theorized lost colony/community inhabiting the level in the past, that the wooden and aluminum structures deteriorated and disappeared completely, leaving buildings constructed out of stronger and more durable materials to rot away with them.
Electric power cables seemingly extending for infinity are somewhat dividing the level in an assumed unsystematic pattern. With such a small width, a bird's-eye view of the level could not possibly determine if these power cables are creating complex geometrical configurations. Additionally, the source of these cables is annulled, no power grids nor electrical stations had ever been discovered in Level 199.
Anomalies & Entities
Entities
Most regard Level 199 as a location without entities, however, encounters with Hounds and Insanities had transpired, yet it is rare. Hypotheses concluded these entities originate from persons subjected into each respective transformations, either from a disease or a particular effect. Multiple reports had stated the presence of Facelings in Level 199, however, most are likely erroneous and are hallucinations.
Nonetheless, one anomaly involving the forecast of Level 199 has consistently ensues each time one enters Level 199; with that being the "Melting Clouds", in addition to an entity named the "Rainbows"
The Melting Clouds
The Melting Clouds are clouds similar to Scud Clouds possessing anomalous properties and characteristics which affect the environment within its surroundings. Contact with these clouds is heavily discouraged; temperatures attaining an approximate 1500°F measured by a region initially covered by the "melted cloud" are typically expected for these occasions. Furthermore, the appearance of the surroundings of these clouds appears to transform into orange rather than the usual gray monotonous clouds the level is accustomed to.
It is anticipated the level would appear as a wasteland covered by ash due to the event, however, the rice plants, in addition to other plants such as grass, banana trees, orchids, and other plants typically found in the regions of Southeast Asia in Level 199, possesses an abnormal ability to grow itself without any seedling nor rhizomes, meaning it spreads quickly without any human intervention.
The Rainbows
Entity 14, continually dubbed as "Rainbows", takes an appearance of ordinary Rainbows possessing the typical 7 colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. The circumstances which cause the presence of Entity 14 in a specific region are unknown; however, levels taking place in an outdoor area bear higher chances of having an Entity 14 present within its compounds. Thorough analysis and investigations prove direct contact with Entity 14 is possible, meaning the entity in question is not a result of sunlight and atmospheric conditions. Nevertheless, it mostly emerges during cloudy or rainy weather, however, some cases of Entity 14 materializing during a clear, sunny day have been reported before.
The effect of Entity 14's presence is substantial at best, mostly affecting areas approximately 12 miles within its surroundings. If the entity is exposed to any tangency between itself and a physical force (excluding gravitational force if a level possesses one) an object such as the wind or a speck of dust, a trigger would transpire — which will result in an instantaneous exposure to a lethal dose of radiation for a human subject of around 1000-5000 rem. Assuming one does not immediately perish due to the radiation, long-term radiation sickness, or development of cancer around the area in which the part of the body is exposed to radiation the most would gradually lead one to a painful death.
Colonies & Outposts
The expansiveness of the level and abnormally high-altitude regions surrounding each basins results in any human contact impossible.
Entrances & Exits
Entrances
- Doorways in Level -1 may lead to Level 199 and other levels;
Exits
- By unknown means, the space around one will transfigure into Level 200's, therefore leading to the respective level;
- Random halls plastered with yellow wallpaper will lead one to Level 0.
- Noclipping through a tall tree sends one to Level 427.
