Level 20 New1

Level 20 appears to be a modern, well-ventilated depot that stretches endlessly in all directions. Boxes containing many supplies, along with forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, ladders, stepping stools, service carts, and similar warehouse equipment, are very frequently interspersed throughout the level, though sections devoid of said items do exist. Rooms within the level vary greatly in size, shape, and design, and the lights within the level's confines often change brightness arbitrarily, yet they consistently buzz noisily. Windows have been spotted within the warehouse, which present a large parking lot at dusk; this lot has so far remained inaccessible. Temperatures within Level 20 constantly remain at about 10 °C (50 °F), and no external factors have been known to change this.

Upscaled Level20

Level 20 is, as mentioned before, home to many crates and boxes, many of which contain tools and regular foodstuffs, too; miscellaneous objects like mouse traps, car parts, and even close-combat weapons like knives and machetes, have also been found. Crates containing Almond Water have also been found, but they are rare. Often, these crates are crudely stacked upon one another, which makes them prone to falling or toppling over; it is also not an uncommon occurrence for entire shelves within Level 20 to suddenly fall over. Wanderers should be mindful of these hazards.

Remnants of structures from the early 20th century that seemingly follow the art deco aesthetic have been found scattered throughout Level 20, all of which vary in size and nation of origin, though most are from the United States or France. The origin of these structures is completely unknown, as past records of the level suggest that they have been around ever since wanderers first entered the level. Records of Level 20 dating back to the 1900s suggest that the level has always taken on a modern appearance, despite modern warehouses not existing at the time. It is believed that this level has some sort of connection with all other levels within the Backrooms, potentially serving as the storage and distribution unit for supplies across many levels. Evidence of this does exist, such as crates containing bottles of Almond Water marked with numbers like 1 and 2, though this cannot be confirmed, and therefore the claim should be taken with a grain of salt.

Additional Information

Listed below are 3 excerpts from a small diary found within Level 20. General consensus regards this diary to be the earliest record of the level we know of, and it has become popular among explorers of Level 20.

Level 20 New Diary

The cold immediately struck me as I felt myself on the concrete floor. After bounding between who knows how many realms, this is my next destination. So oddly... futuristic. I let myself revel in whatever hope I had that I might have made it back home—that all of this dimension-hopping had dilated my sense of time. I only just now realized that... I have seen futurism before. This is yet another cruel trick played by whoever rules this domain. I was left with no choice but to wander and stare, as strange towers of boxes towered over me, some quietly creaking, and the lights, similar to the yellow halls and strange ship, screamed into my ears. Strange contraptions and machinery lay at every turn, as both the cold of the place and the enormity of the situation made me shiver. A window lay in front of me. "Perhaps this is my ticket out of here? Closer to, or to home?" I thought to myself; I knew it would be worth a shot, so I grabbed all I could and threw it at the piece of glass. Alas, it all ricocheted and struck the ground. This is it. I broke. I'm not getting out of here, am I?

Level 20 New Diary 2

It's been... I don't know how long, but it's been a long time! I've gotten rather used to this place, even if I am trapped here forever. It is no home, but I will try to make it feel that way. I've begun seeing some strange looking pieces lying around; they say stuff like "Made in Illinois" or "Fabriqué en France," whatever that means to me anymore... I've treated myself to a gaze at the wonderful sunset through whatever window I may come across, strangely reminds me of the lands back home, even though I have never seen such an environment before. This universe is so much stranger than anyone could ever know. I can only wonder what secrets lie in this grand wake, and how many people will be unfortunate enough to have to find out.

Level 20 New Diary 3

I could feel it. I could feel... an exit nearby. I was reluctant to leave. This place has grown on me too much. It became my second home, despite its dull, gray, and sometimes dark appearance. The thrills of danger were all there. It felt like Earth. I liked that... I didn't want to lose that. And yet, I yearned for my true home, and I knew I would never get there without moving. I packed up my things and started walking... I took a hard look at my surroundings, knowing I might never see the confines of this futuristic gray building again. I wondered, and wondered, and wondered... I wondered for what seemed like hours. Perhaps my gut feelings were false? Perhaps I would stay here regardless? These questions were shortly put down, as my endeavors led me to an empty room with a single, off-white door. The moment of truth. What lies behind that door is where I will be spending my existence for the next... I don't know how long. I opened it and walked through... This was definitely something different. An entirely new environment! Knowing I had nothing to do but move forward, I waved my last goodbyes to this area, and adventured on into the next.

Colonies and Outposts

Level 20-21

A few colonies and outposts exist within Level 20. However, as of now, there is little incentive to inhabit more of the level, due to a lack of motivation from the general populace. The colonies/outposts within the level are:

The Tetra Clan

  • An estimated 150 members, 30 of whom are guards;
  • Willing to trade, and welcoming newcomers;
  • Collect resources and protect wanderers from other human threats;
  • Often on the move.

The Almond Twenty

  • An outpost of about 50 members;
  • Willing to trade, but not very welcoming of others;
  • Gather Almond Water from crates within Level 20 and trade it off.

The Forklifters

  • Around 20 members;
  • Famed for driving around in the forklifts within the level;
  • Unwilling to trade, yet welcoming newcomers;
  • Help wanderers move to different parts of the level at a faster pace;
  • Attempt to make the level safer by maintaining the crates and shelves.

  • In Level 306, entering a package with eyes closed that can fit individuals has small probability leads to a random location in this level.

Exits

Finding an empty room with one off-white door and opening it will lead to Level 21. One can also access this level if they enter the tears that rarely appear on the walls of Level 20;

  • Finding a door labelled "Exit" and opening it will lead to either Level 9 or Level 22;
  • Finding a door labelled "Neighborhood" and entering through it will lead one to Level 9;
  • Noclipping into some boxes may take one to Level 20.1;
