Description

One of the only pictures taken of Level 2048.

Level 2048 (otherwise known as "Infinite Frost") is a level where snow falls and never stops. Scientists do not know why the infinite snow occurs in the first place, but there are some loose theories.

The level appears to be a suburban area, with the only souces of light being dim, worn out street lights spread across the curb. The houses are completely empty and have no humans dwelling in them. Entities may reside in some houses to keep out of the freezing temperatures and turning into their frost variants. Temperaturs can reach as low as -150°C, and the snow is always somewhere inbetween 4 to 10 feet.

Entities

Frost Variants

Every single entity in the Backrooms has a frost variant only found in this level. Here are some of the more common ones.

  • Frost Hound - These snow abominations very closely resemble hounds, except they can create ice beneath your feet and make you trip. This makes it easier for them to kill you, so stay at least twenty meters away.
  • Frost Moths - Frost Moths are exactly the same as a normal Death Moth, except that they can throw snowballs to distract you. This adaption can let them annihilate you faster.
  • Frost Smilers - Like normal Smilers, except they have the ability to unfreeze themselves while being looked at.

Exclusive Entities

These entities are original and can't be found anywhere else.

  • Snowman - Every house in this level has a snowman outside on its lawn. Around 95% of them turn into a Melted Monstrosity when nearby, while 5% are just snowmen that stand still.
  • Melted Monstrosity - These are snowmen that have been in a wanderer's vicinity. Once agitated, their snow layers fall off and appear to made up of melted magma. They run with incredible speed and can burn anything that touches it. Because of this, wanderers have found a way to exploit this and make them into exit-finders. The wanderer runs around on top of the snow, while the Melted Monstrosity follows underneath. Using this, it is possible to find an exit in the snow easier than standing on random patches of snow.

Colonies and Outposts

Though many do not survive the way below freezing temperatures of Level 2048, there are at least fifteen recorded outposts, with only one having more than ten members (The Alliance of The Frostflake).

Entrances and Exits

There is only one known entrance to Level 2048 while there is two known exits. The way to enter "The Infinite Frost" is to enter Level 5 (aka, "Terror Hotel"), and climb through one of the pipes that connects to the main boiler of the boiler room. This will take you to Level 2048, as the cold temperatures there keep the boiler from overheating.

One of the ways to exit this level is to walk down the street, though you might have to walk a while to finally exit. The exit will look like a giant overpass, connecting levels 2048 and 2049. The second exit, on the other hand, is falling through the snow. You will fall through some patches of snow if you stand on them for too long.

Both exits will take you to Level 2049 (aka, "Happy Town"). Some people go to Level 2048 as a shortcut to Level 2049, as it is known as a "Paradise", and people would want to get there as quickly as possible.

Properties of Level 2048

Snow Messages

There is a very rare occurance that you can find a message written in the snow. These might be from explorers, or from intelligent entities who just want to play mind games with you.

Infinite Snow

As stated before, the snow falls forever, potentially making an infinite water source. MIBSTA has already seemed to take advantage of this, selling their own "100% Whole Backrooms Water". It seems to be healthier than Almond Water, but scientists don't know why, since it seems to be the same in nutritional value.

The "Endless" Night

"Endless" is put in quotation marks, because there is a rare chance that it can be daytime in Level 2048. When the level is bathed in sunlight, temperatures can reach up to -50°C, making it a tiny bit easier to traverse the level and possibly find a colony.

The last (recorded) time of daytime in Level 2048 was July 6th, 1999, so there isn't a great chance of having sunlight any time soon.

The Death of Nathaniel (As of 2022)

Nathaniel "Thomas" Trucker was found dead in the snow on May 7th, 2010. His body has been preserved by M.E.G. for classified reasons.

Below is the last recording we have received before the incident.

[Nathaniel] - *Sounds of clanging metal and screams of pain*

[REDACTED] - Are you alright? What's going on?

[Nathaniel] - I fell down one of the pipes connected to the boiler on Level 5. I'm in some... snowy place.

[REDACTED] - Could you describe more, please?

[Nathaniel] - Seems like it's nighttime. There aren't any lights except for some dim street lamps.

[REDACTED] - Street lamps?

[Nathaniel] - Yes, I'm in some sort of suburban area. There's houses all over the block, with one street connecting them all.

[REDACTED] - Interesting. Do you see a way out?

[Nathaniel] - Not to my knowledge, but there has to be an exit. The only level without an exit is The End, right?

[REDACTED] - Good point. Keep explaining your surroundings.

[Nathaniel] - Some houses have the lights on, but I don't see any humans.

[REDACTED] - Why would the lights be on if there's no one home?

[Nathaniel] - I'm not sure, but I think I saw an entity in one of the houses.

[REDACTED] - Intriguing.

[Nathaniel] - There seems to be a snowman on every house's lawn. Is that some kind of supernatural property of this level? I should go investigate.

[REDACTED] - It would be best to not risk your life, Nathaniel.

[Nathaniel] - Oh, come on, it's just a snowman.

[Nathaniel] - No, wait, that's definetely not a snowman...

[Nathaniel] - DEFINETELY NOT A SNOWMAN.

[REDACTED] - Nathaniel, what's going on?

[Nathaniel] - REQUESTING BACKUP. REQUESTING BACKU-

[End of log.]
