Level 222 is the 223rd level of The Backrooms.

Description[]

The surface of some remains, illuminated by a headlight.

Level 222, known as The Shattered Skylines, appears to be the remains of a once thriving community, lost to the depths of space. It consists of large rocks, composed mostly of stone, strung together by wooden bridges. The ropes of the bridges are worn, and seem like they will snap at any moment. The disc of remains is gargantuan, and seems to have its own gravitational pull. Cosmos are drawn throughout the skies and stars appear close. Like orbs in the sky, they spew streams of fire at the disc, scorching anything in its path.

The disc is not perfect, it has bumps and bruises, rises and falls, but on a cosmic scale it looks as flat as a pancake. Some rare minerals can be found in the depths of shadowy caves etched into the rocks, such as Topaz, Emerald, Copper, Gold and even Diamond. Many wanderers come here to attempt to make a profit but fail to escape. The immense radiation and cold restrains anyone who enters from even attempting to leave. One would need high-tech astronaut suits to even try and escape the place. Some class it as 'An Environmental Deadzone' and try to stop anyone from entering. Due to its easy entrances, many untaught wanderers would assume it is safe.

The freezing temperatures on Level 222 are like no other. It is colder than the depths of Pluto. Despite its size, it doesn't seem to move at all, as if a galactic wall was stopping it from doing so. Due to the lack of atmosphere and magnetic field, cosmic radiation is constantly hitting the disc. Sometimes, the remnants can be as large as mountains, others can be as small as pebbles. The largest of these is named 'Kyokvin' which has been measured to be 1873m in diameter.

Power cables can be seen strung through the skies but stands which they connect to have never been seen, as if they were floating there by themselves. Sometimes a spark can be seen leaking through a small hole in a power cable, indicating that it does have electricity flowing inside of it. It is unsure of where this comes from or goes to, but no cable has ever been able to be physically touched, as if they are just a hologram or ghost.

Leakages[]

Sometimes, crystals may leak in from Level 221 and cover many square kilometers of rocks in pure crystal. This crystal is incredibly sharp and glitchy, but is also incredibly valuable. This is the primary resource that wanderers look for to try and make a profit when entering this level. However, this phenomenon is rare and is more prominent to happen in Level 500. These crystals have the ability to make one blind by looking at it, due to the fact that every star around the disc is reflecting off of it into the wanderer's eyes.

Some leakages were reported on these following dates:

  • 23.09.1992
  • 04.11.1995
  • 11.03.2006
  • 12.04.2007
  • 01.31.2012
  • 02.02.2018
  • 18.12.2023

Entities[]

Shadows[]

The only entity present in Level 222 are Shadows. They resemble a flat, black, gooey structure which blends in with the cosmos. They is harmless, and are immune to the freezing temperatures. They photosynthesize using the radiation of the nearby stars, and slowly grow over time. However, they have a short lifespan, roughly three to four months in length. Strangely, this goo uses the process of binary fission to reproduce, which has only been seen before in single-celled organisms like bacteria.

Colonies and Outposts[]

It is impossible for any colonies or outposts to form because of the aforementioned environmental conditions. There was once a group named 'The Rockcampers' that tried to form on Kyokvin to test the limits of human inventions, but it failed and everyone in the group unfortunately died of the radiation. Impressively, the cold did not affect them, which just goes to show the capability of human integrity.

Entrances and Exits[]

Entrances[]

  • Somehow escaping the gravitational pull of Level 24 may send one here.
  • Random no-clippage

Exits[]

  • If the crystals leak in from Level 221, then it may send one there.
  • Finding a doorway on the underside of a rock and entering it may take one to Level 11
  • Random no-clippage
