Overview

Moon view of Level 246

Level246-2

Level 246 is a level commonly referred to as the "Moon View" or "Artistic Level", known for its clear lunar landscape that can be seen from anywhere on the level. The level's most commonly known feature, the clear moon scenery, can be seen from anywhere and at any time. The level's ambiance is typically rather peaceful, with only the sound of the wind soothing people.

Although the level is not completely free of threats, it is habitable and there are many wanderers living in it. Most of these wanderers are artists who are members of the Republic of Artists. The level may contain some minor hazards, such as liquids found on the ground, such as Memory Flame or Liquid Pain, although these are unlikely to pose much of a threat.

The level is home to many wanderers as well as many artists who express their emotions through art, thanks to the inspiration that comes from the moon and the level's livability. The moon is constantly visible as there is no day and night cycle on the level, and it is always night. The artists can be found almost anywhere on the level, although are less likely to be observed in settlements. According to the records, Level 246 was discovered by former B.W.O. member Jerry M. Sercher, and it was quickly inhabited by various groups.

Blank or painted canvases, artists, or artistic communities can be found almost anywhere on the level. These elements are more common in areas such as the plains, but can also be found in mountains or settlements. These artists are generally friendly and open to new members. In addition, they also help other wanderers as much as possible

Although the level is not infinitely vast it is still quite large, but its width cannot be measured accurately due to its large size. This makes it difficult to interact between colonies in the level, but navigation is made easier as every wanderer finds themselves in the same place when they enter the level. In addition, the air temperature in almost all parts of the level is the same, around 20°C (68°F).

One of the other things that comes to mind when thinking of Level 246 is hunger. Since there aren't any food products in the level and the entrances to the level can be quite unexpected, many of the wanderers unfortunately starve to death. To prevent this, the B.W.O. has set up bases and food stands in many parts of the level and these deaths have been prevented to some extent.

The level is about 400 km² wide and consists of 4 distinct regions.

The Beach

The Beach

Level246-4

The beach is one of the most well-known parts of the level and consists of an empty sandy coast. Rarely a single sun lounger or umbrella can be seen around. Not many wanderers or entities are found in this area. Swimming in the sea is totally healthy and causes no problems, however drinking the water, as in The Frontrooms, is not safe due to the salt content.

The sea is not wavy most of the time, but occasionally storms can occur, and during these storms it is not safe to enter the sea as it can be quite wavy and very shaky. It is not recommended to go too deep in the sea. The sand on the beach can inflict third-degree burns or can be warm from time to time, but as a precautionary measure, it should not be stepped on barefoot.

The Plains

Plains

Level246-5

The plains are a flat area covered with dry grass. Wanderers usually arrive here first at the level. It is arguably the most well-known part of the level. As the area is flat and has no light pollution, the moon is most clearly visible in this region, so artists mostly live here in small tents or huts. Furthermore, the mountains are easily seen from the plains, so anyone intending to climb them should first come here.

The Mountains

The Mountains

Level246M

The mountains are the highest points of the level and, apart from the plains, they have the clearest view of the moon. These mountains can stretch up to 12000 meters and are usually silent, without any wanderers or entities. This region is the coldest part of the level and temperatures can drop as low as 2°C (35.6°F). The mountains are mostly covered with snow, although at some times of the year there may be no snow at all, yet this is completely random. One day there may be snow and the next day the mountains may be completely clear of snow.

Settlements

Settlements

Level246-6

Settlements are areas that were once part of the plains, but later became villages and towns as groups settled down. In these areas, the moon is often not visible, so it is rare for artists to be found here. This area is frequently used by M.E.G. and other groups to support research and establish living quarters in the comfort of the towns in The Frontrooms. The houses in this area are mostly made of wood and are in the form of small huts. The houses do not have a lock system and the doors are also made of wood. This area is the most populated part of the level and it is quite likely to encounter other wanderers.

[Footsteps on the grass is heard]

Can you hear me? Hi. [Clears Throat] I'm on a plain and there's a fantastic view of the moon. Seriously... I haven't felt this peaceful in a long time. It's really ideal if there are no entities here or anything. Are there any people here? I wonder. I hope this plain doesn't go on forever so I can find someone.

[Deep breathing sounds]

The moon looks really, really good.

I feel like I could live here forever. It's a very nice atmosphere. The air is pretty clean too.

Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Mike. I fell into the Backrooms a couple months ago, I guess. I've kind of gotten used to it.

If something happens to me, I want these records to surface so that people don't have to go through what I went through.

[The footsteps stop]

Oh, it's a beach. I got to a beach.

[The wanderer continues walking on the beach for a while and then all the sounds stop]

Wait...

What the hell is going on?

Where the hell did the moon go?

Level246Doc

On August 6, 2023, Level 246 experienced an event that affected the entire level. On the specified date, the moon disappeared for twenty-two hours and could not be observed from anywhere on the level. The level was plunged into absolute darkness about ten minutes into the event with the moon gone. Three of the people who had been frightened by the event and had not been paying attention to their path were killed upon encountering Smilers, and four were seriously injured.

In the twenty-second hour of the incident, the moon suddenly reappeared and the level returned to light. All the artists who had been injured during the incident recovered and the three who had lost their lives were buried on the beach.

In order to prevent the incident from happening again, drills were conducted for three months and prepared for a possible situation. The cause of this incident is currently being investigated, but no conclusion has yet been reached. The level has been badly damaged by this incident, but has managed to recover.

Entities

Facelings can be found in the level, although they pose no real threat, and while they are generally not harmful, it is not recommended to approach them due to the risk they pose. In addition, on rare occasions, more harmful entities such as Smilers or Deathmoths can be found in the level, but this is highly unlikely.
